I have read the authors ya series a couple of years ago and remember loving the Ruby Red series so I had to pick up her latest ya standalone sooner or later especially after seeing her at the book fair last year. This was such a quick and fun read - definitely how I expected a Kerstin Gier book to be. Now I have to admit that starting a book set in the middle of winter with snowy landscapes and the anticipation of christmas was probably not my best idea since it's June but I enjoyed it anyway! ...more

3 STARS.

I was kind of disappointed with this... It was definitely not what I'd expected and very very character driven.
I still liked it because Kerstin Gier always creates very unique characters for her books but this was nothing compared to the Precious Stone trilogy...

More in-depths review coming soon.

4.2 stars! This book was really magical, funny and just a great YA book!

Kierstin Gier is one of my favorite authors of YA books and I was happy to finally read her new novel! I think that this book is even more funny than her previous stories. Also, this story has only a bit of magic inside and in my opinion, it is great. But it wouldn’t be Kierstin Gier if she didn’t have a rather thrilling conclusion almost like from an action movie after a relatively quiet book full of Christmas idols!

I’d tru

I guess I will never get bored of reading Kerstin Gier's books. I love the way things get interesting at the end of her books (I really did not expect this!!) and I enjoyed this one a lot!

I don't read many german authors, but if Kerstin Gier publishes a new book it has become quite mandatory to read it. This book was awfully German (in comparsion to the ruby red and silver series). I mean it's about a fucking hotel in the suiss alps. It felt, at times, like watching a german TV soap opera (don't ever try that, they are awful). But it was funny as always, and had some fun twists in between and the story was well paced. The Characters were stylized and grew on you, and actually you ...more

I actually finished this book more than a week ago, and I didn't have the muse to write a review, but here we go.

Things I Liked:

* My overall reading experience. I listened to it on Spotify while walking to work or cleaning the house and it was really nice having some entertainment while doing all those things.
* The increase of diverse characters, compared to her other novels. There was a POC main character, a gay character, and a disabled character.
* How work in a hotel was depicted. (I guess th

I really like the Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier, so, after being disappointed by her Silver trilogy, I'm happy to say that I finally see the glimpse of her first series in this book. It's a really enjoyable, quick read. The characters are interesting, there's a lot of humour and the mystery, although not too complicated, kept me guessing. However, the best part

Bearing in mind that the target audience for this book is still in high school, The Castle in the clouds is a rather decent read, especially during winter since the atmosphere in the book is rather charming and even magical.
I quite liked the main character, especially the fact that she doesn't whine and makes the best of what comes her way.
The book was easy to read and there were even some plot twists that I didn't expect. However, it is sad that the author decided not to explore the paranormal

honestly, i expected it to be one of my fav books cause i really liked the plot and i love Kerstin Gier. I was disappointed, unfortunately. It is a nice and entertaining book, i liked the characters and there are some good plot twists. Nothing more. That’s it. The love triangle, if we can call it that, is boring, predictable and Fanny, the main character, is basically loved by the two hottest guys in the hotel. Obviously. And of course they fall in love with her since the first time they see her ...more

I absolutely love this cover! And I also love Gier's style of writing, it's full of details without being overwhelming, it's calming and I feel like I want to bury myself in her sentences. Concerning the story (nothing can kick the Precious Stone trilogy from it's throne), it was a nice one for in between but also not that stunning - I feel like it was a bit stretched out at some points, because not much happened until the big climax. Nevertheless, the writing style didn't make me bore or questi ...more

I really really loved this book. I was expecting to like it because I like the author's other books so much but it still rose above my expectations. The characters were so well built and the writing style so funny and witty, and that, paired with the awesome plot and setting as well as the brilliant narrators of the audiobook really made this reading experience great for me. Can't wait to reread it soon

It was OK, I guess but I think Im getting too old for this authors books. I still enjoy her writing, her funny characters and situations she creates but I didnt like the story very much. There wasnt almost any action, most time it was only Fanny thinking about boys and kissing, the only exciting part was like 50 pages in the end. This book is funny with really nice written hotel thing but its probably for younger readers than I am. ...more

I really enjoyed this book.

Although it took some time for the story to gain momentum, the time until that point was spent with a wonderful build-up in which I got to know the characters, the hotel guests and the hotel itself. The atmosphere of the book felt like a cold, calm winter evening when you are sitting in front of a crackling fire, all cosy and relaxed.

If you need a comfortable, enjoyful book for a cold winter evening, you can't go wrong with this one.

Well what can I say, I loved every single word of it! The whole hotel concept with ever-changing guests
really intrigued me and it did not disappoint. Fanny is a kind and loving character that I could relate to immediately.
A wonderful adventurous yet real story mixed with just the right amount of magic.
This is a story for hopeless romantics and contemporary fans likewise.

I actually enjoyed the book. But I can't believe that this is the end. I wand and need more. More about Tristan and his "job" more about Don Jr. I think this book has great potential for a serious.
So it's sad that this is a standalone.....

This book by Kerstin Gier was quiet amazing. The characters were wonderful (espeacially Monseur Rocher!), the setting was homely and the story really suprising and interesting. The perfect book for a cold afternoon with a cup of tea!

Did anything happen at all until the last 50 pages? No. Was the plot plausible? No. Did I have fun while reading it? Hell yes!
