Amelia and her friends find themselves in a nightmarish ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ scenario on Sugarplum Island!
How does the world keep expanding like this in the Amelia Fang series?? Just when I thought the world couldn’t get more imaginative, Anderson manages to conjure up more worlds in the tiniest of places - every nook and cranny of Amelia’s story is filled with magic and wonder.
Another fun adventure with Amelia and her friends in some form of danger, as well as a race against the clock to return things to the way they should be. I continue to love these characters and I can’t even predict what could possibly happen - Anderson’s brain is just full of weird and wonderful things!
It's the half moon holidays for Amelia and her friends, which means it's the perfect time for a camping trip with the Rainbow Rangers to Sugarplum Island. However, mystery and danger await as the gang are magically cursed and shrunk to the size of bugs. Can they find their fellow Rainbow Rangers, and break their curse before the holidays are over?
I cannot get enough of these colourful books. I know I've said this in every review, but they're just so much fun. Amelia and her friends are so well developed that I've grown quite attached to them. In this installment I couldn't help laughing at Tangine and his high maintenance lifestyle. The little guy can't go anywhere without his eye cream. I also liked the expansion of the world and characters as we get to see a little bit more of unicorn guards turned Rainbow Rangers Graham and Ricky. A double act dream. And Queen Denise the slug. What an icon.
These stories always have a really wholesome feel, with a message about kindness, being different and being good that doesn't feel overwrought or heavy handed. Instead it uses the plot to present these good intentions in a positive, light hearted way. At this point I'm so invested in them that I'm sad that I'm near the end of the series.
As the fourth book in the Amelia Fang series, this is as cute and as cuddly as you'd expect, and all in all it was a fun read.
We join Amelia and her friends once more as they join the Rainbow Rangers, which is pretty much like Cub Scouts or any other kid-camping group. It's led by the two unicorn ex-guards, Ricky and Graham, and they are being brought to Sugarplum Island in the Kingdom of the Light.
There, the rangers have to explore the island and complete a lot of fun tasks in order to earn badges. Amelia herself is prepared for a lot of fun, even though she knows that she will also miss her family.
In terms of this book overall, I did love it and enjoyed the journey and the directions in which it went, but overall I'd say that it just felt...lighter than the previous books. The central conflict of the book didn't feel as serious or high-stakes as the previous three books, and ultimately this was a fun little camping adventure, all in all.
So...great, but not excellent, is what I'm driving at.
When Amelia and her friends visit Sugarplum Island for their half-moon holiday, the last thing they expect is to end up shrinking down to bug size and stumbling on a curse that’s gripped the island for years. Can they set things to rights without being swatted?
This was the first Amelia Fang book I’ve read, but it works well as a stand alone adventure without having read the previous stories. I loved the richly imagined world of Nocturnia and all its characters, especially Amelia and the loveable Squashy!
Laura Ellen Anderson’s magical story telling is perfectly matched with her gorgeous and amusing illustrations - a true talent.
I like the story because it has many fun adventures. It is suitable for an eight years old girl. It is mostly about monsters and magic. I really like the characters in the story.
Amelia on ystävineen partioretkellä Namuluumusaarella, kun he joutuvat uskomattomaan seikkailuun. Syötyään kirottuja hedelmiä, he muuttuvat pikkuriikkisiksi. Heidän on keksittävä ratkaisu varsin vaikeaan tilanteeseensa. Tällä kertaa tarinassa ei ole pahista ja siksipä tämä onkin juuri nyt todella mukavaa luettavaa.
Suosittelen erityisesti Arthur ja minimoit -leffasarjan ystäville.
Read- October 2021 - I haven't picked up an Amelia Fang book in a while but I'm glad I am carrying on because I think this is my favourite in the series so far.
Amelia and friends go camping this time, determined to earn their badges from their camp leaders, the two unicorn guards from the last book, Graham and Ricky.
They start with a little friendly boat rowing race to an island. In an effort to earn the Food Foraging Badge, they scout the island and find a fig tree. Almost immediately, everything shrinks to insect-size -- literally.
Amelia and all her friends meet the king of Buggingtonshire, King Jamie, a horned bumblebee, and learned that when they ate the tree's figs, they may have earned a badge, but were cursed to insect-sizes.
Can Amelia and her friends figure out how to break the curse and return to their normal sizes? Even if it involves solving a puzzle that has remained unsolved for decades?
We enjoyed Amelia and her creatures of the dark gang's latest adventure!

Hooray, it's the Nocturnia friends back for another adventure. It's Half-Moon Holiday and the Rainbow Explorers are being led by Graham and Ricky the unicorns on a badge earning trip to Sugarplum Island. When Tangine runs off trying to find a cafe, they find a lovely fruit tree. After falling asleep under it Amelia, Grimaldi, Florence and Tangine {and pet pumpkins} wake up tiny. Getting stuck in jam and befriending Bumblecorn King Jamiethey find they have been cursed. What I loved about this tale was the constant adventure and new characters. My favourite part was when the friends met a merpire and manage to solve the mystery of the curse before they are meant to go home. My personal favourites are Squashy and Pumpy the mischevious pet pumpkins of Amelia and Tangine, Pa-doinging and Pa-doofing about during the caper. This is book 4 in the series but you can read it on it's own. Perfect for reading out loud and confident readers 6+
The children of Nocturnia are celebrating their Half-Moon Break by going on a camping trip as the Rainbow Rangers lead by the unicorns, Ricky and Graham. As most scouts, they are earning badges on this trip, the second badge the kids get to earn is the food foraging badge! Amelia and her friends find a beautiful curly tree filled with round, plump fruit that's glowing yellow and shining like a light around the tree. The kids eat the fruit, a lot of the fruit and fall asleep under the tree and when they wake up the next morning, they find that they've shrunk in their sleep!
I really enjoyed reading this and all the adventures they had while trying to find a way back to their normal big size. These books are so much fun to read and while they're a series I feel like they do work pretty well to just read in any random order since they don't all follow a singular storyline. They've all been amazing so far but I do think this one is my favourite!
I absolutely love the Amelia Fang series. Chapter books were really intimidating for my 6 year old, but this series captured her interest from the start and really got her over that fear. From Book 1, she consumed them voraciously, eagerly anticipating their arrival from the UK, and reading them together was actually enjoyable. There are many children's books that can be boring and a chore to read together, but I found myself eager to read these and find out what happened next. Anderson's humor is on point for kids and adults alike, and she teaches some really important life lessons in a fun and accessible way.
The fourth in Laura Ellen Anderson’s AMELIA FANG SERIES for children aged 7+ is another charming, self-illustrated Gothic fantasy read about friendship and lost love, which is surprisingly moving and has some funny moments (particularly the slug queen mistaken for a sofa). For me, Squashy and Pumpy the pumpkins are the out-and-out stars but I keep wishing that there was more for Florence and Grimaldi to do as they fade into the background.
Snad u nás vyjdou i další díly. :-)
Another belter from Nocturnia!! I absolutely love this series and cannot get enough of them. I was lucky enough to get an advance reading copy of this and read it in less than twenty-four hours!! Amelia and her friends are a great team and their adventures just keep getting better - these are must-reads for all ages!
An even more exciting and whimsical installment in the Amelia Fang series. It was nice to while away the day today while I was sick reading two books in this series. A lovely time of it for sure. Amelia and her friends get into some pretty big adventures in this one. I wish there had been more about the "Rainbow Rangers" but it was super fun even though it wasn't. Love this series.
Doing joint read/listens of this delightful children’s comedy horror series as they become available at BorrowBox.
I know that I am not part of the intended readership, but it’s so much fun to enter Amelia’s world. The illustrations really add another level of enjoyment.
The audiobooks are short and so I finish it in an afternoon.
OVa mi je bila najmanje omiljena od svih do sada... Malo me je smorila ... A i decu.... Nije losa knjizica ali izgleda da je autorki ponestalo originalnih ideja ... ili se bar meni tako cini.
English REview: This was my least favorite so far... It was a bit boring for me and the kids... It;s not bad but looks like the author ran out of original ideas....
Adorable!! I just can't get enough of all these characters. I love the artwork and the stories are always so nice and full of adventure. I hope there will be more to this series!! Long live Squishy!!
Bedtime stories just got a little bit more exciting! Myself and my little girl love going on the adventures with Amelia fang and her friends in Nocturnia, we find ourselves laughing out loud whilst reading most nights. Would highly recommend.
Bloody loved this! The Amelia Fang series is such fun. She’s such a polite character and I love the humour in these books. I am a massive fan of Ricky and Graham the unicorns!
I can’t say enough how much I love this world and these characters and this story was so sweet! I didn’t see the twist coming which I maybe should have but it shocked me and I love that!
