What a lovely book, nicely illustrated, and what a lovely looking cat Slobcat is.

He apparently does nothing but lie about and sleep when indoors and that is whey the people he lives with call him Slobcat. But when he is outside, they do not know what he gets up to. And he often returns wet because he is too lazy to get out of the rain!

When he knows it is time to eat he returns but sometimes he is even too lazy to eat and just lies there or gets in the way of whatever people are doing!

He is not even interested in chasing mice and befriends them rather than chase them and his people are glad they do not have rats because there would be no chance of Slobcat chasing them.

Outside he even sits and admires the birds who are not afraid of him so the people who he lives with think that he must, like all cats, have a secret life that they do not know about. But then they realise as they cuddle him that he is even too lazy for that! But they love him dearly.

Cute book, sweet illustrations. Just didnt love the part about the burglar that almost seems to normalize it. "Sometimes, when we're asleep, there are burglars about." I don't want my children to think that there are often burglars out and about while they are trying to sleep. But overall, it was sweet!

Whenever his owners are around, Slobcat is always sleeping, or lazing around. That's how he got his name: Slobcat! But Slobcat leads a very different and exciting, adventurous life when he's away from his owners. If they only knew of his heroics, they would be surprised.

The secret life of cats in a picture book. It’s sure to entertain cat lovers and the illustrations tell stories counter to the words which makes for wonderful interpretation opportunities.

A sweet story of a cat told from the perspective of a little girl. She thinks her cat just sleeps all day and is so lazy he can't even be bother to eat or come in out of the rain. But in Slobcat's world, he guards the house, keeps the garden safe, and rescues little animals from danger.

Love the juxtaposition of the girls perspective with the illustrations showing otherwise. Nicely done.

I loved the close up painting of a cat in the opening spread of this picture book. The story is narrated by a little girl who thinks her cat is lazy, when really he is a very busy hero who keeps their house and yard safe (and protects kittens, little birds, and mice). The use of a naive narrator with illustrations that contradicted what she was saying went well over my 3 year old's head, but maybe he will enjoy that aspect when he is older.

Very like several other cat books from my childhood, Slobcat is dismissed by the toddler narrator as lazy and uninteresting. Ha. Little does she know. Some very amusing pictures of what Slobcat really gets up to when no one is watching.

This is one of my absolute favorites from my childhood. The adventures of the lazy house cat sparked my little imagination; the illustrations are beautifully done and fit perfectly with the story. I still remember and love the part where Slob Cat befriends all of the little mice.

Great children's book about a cat's owner who thinks the cat does nothing but laze around all day, but the pictures tell a different story.
