Contradictions...

Tall and short.

Inked and unmarked.

Golden and porcelain.

Soft dreads and wild red.

Dark and… darker.

Keeping more secrets than a teenage girl's diary, Harlow Cooper hides a lot behind her bubbly personality. College student and intern. Loyal friend and loving daughter. Fangirl and girly girl. Lover of strong coffee and even stronger margaritas. Former bartender and current… Well, let’s just say she’s suddenly in need of pasties and an industrial sized drum of glitter.

Quick with a smile and joke, people assume Kase Teo is all ego with a slacker follow-through. But lurking behind his hauntingly beautiful blue eyes is an ocean. Knowledge, quick wit, experience, pain… There are depths to Kase that most don’t see. If there’s one thing he’s learned, it’s that life’s all about appreciating the beauty.

For Kase, that means going after the redhead that’s set up residence in his mind. And his fantasies.

Now he needs her to see life’s more than just a best case scenario.

***Warning: This book is intended for adults. It contains frequent adult language and situations.

Though it can be read as a standalone, it is STRONGLY recommended you read Hyde and Seek first.

Layla Frost

Growing up, Layla Frost used to hide under her blanket with a flashlight to read the Sweet Valley High books she pilfered from her older sister. It wasn’t long before she was reading hidden Harlequins during class at school. This snowballed into pulling all-nighters after the promise of “just one more chapter”.

Her love of reading, especially the romance genre, took root early and has grown immeasurably until it was time to write her own stories.

When she's not writing, Layla Frost is an insomniac with a deep love of iced coffee, tchotchkes, plants, and her hens. She's also the world's okayest mom, but her kids think she's cool... ish.

This chick’s got quirky down to a fine art.

I met the red-haired girl and Isla Fisher popped into my head. Harlow, is a little quirky (not calling her weird, seemed a bit harsh) and Isla does quirky really, really well. I met the dreadlocked boy and….(screeching stop). Hmmm, Houston, we have a problem. See, I really like Kase but I really, really do not like dreadlocks. So with a little bit of a mind tweak and a wee bit of artistic licence… voila… David Gandy is my Kase. Don’t judge, I know Mr Gandy is my go to hottie for casting, but in this case it kind of works. Gandy has some photos with facial hair...and his hair is curly, which is kind of like dreaddies... and he does have blue eyes like Kase. See, it works. So with my casting now in place, I was able to settle back and enjoy the show. Onwards…

Best Kase Scenario is the second book in Layla Frost’s Hyde series. I didn’t do a re-read of the first book Hyde and Seek, which I’m kind of glad about. With my shocking memory, I was meeting the hero and heroine almost like it was the first time. I remembered Piper and Jake enough to be happy to see them again, but with Harlow and Kase…nothing to cloud my judgement, get over or try to block out.

I really liked Harlow from the start, but I didn’t really GET her. She seems to have lots of balls in the air she’s trying to juggle, but it seemed like a circus act that was unnecessary. She didn’t need to juggle them all by herself, just needed to let the other clowns around her, play a part in the show. It wasn’t even to gain attention that she did this act. Harlow just wanted to make sure that all of the balls knew their place in her heart and head, had their own set times for handling, and kept moving. What she failed to see is that her independence was pushing her closest friends away.

In the beginning of Best Kase Scenario, we see Harlow about to start a new job. The blurb hinted, but my first thought once confirmed was – none of those Hyde boys would let their woman work in a place like that…bet you it doesn’t last. Let’s just say this career path wasn’t a lifelong dream of Harlow’s, luckily.

Kase is a hottie who grabs attention wherever he goes. He has women throwing themselves at him, but deep down he's a romantic at heart. Harlow had caught his attention and played a major part in his fantasies, but he wasn’t sure where he stood with her. He held off pushing into her life until he was fully convinced he wanted more than a hookup. See, smart and good looking…very appealing. The guys at Hyde are like his family, but he has a few other guys who he knows he can count on in a pinch. Imagine Kase’s surprise when he goes to visit one of his mates, Lars, at his place of business. This little surprise was definitely the kick in the pants he needed to chase Harlow down.

Their love story isn’t rushed, but it certainly was clear that they had feelings for each other. Between Harlow’s many balls that needed to keep moving and Kase’s past intruding into his future, this story was interesting from beginning to end. Kase has Harlow’s back and works ridiculously hard to gain her trust and affection. Harlow ends up having an almost epiphany, and learns that it’s Ok for her friends and loved ones to hold her balls, and even juggle them for her. At this stage, I really started to know and love Harlow more and enjoyed seeing her making as much effort in the relationship as Kase was.

There is plenty of action in Best Kase Scenario. The sexy times were HOT and steamy and Harlow learnt pretty quickly that Kase’s rep was very well earned. There was a little bit of a mystery in the storyline and it was AWESOME to see Harlow deal with some balls (wink, wink) that needed to be deflated with a well-placed foot.

Best Kase Scenario was funny, sweet and steamy. Layla Frost has done a marvelous job with her second story and I think it will definitely be a hit in the romance reading world. The scenery and sets were easy to picture, the characters are well developed and lovable…even the ones that like eating cold noodles on purpose…weird quirky.

I received an ARC of Best Kase Scenario via the author for an honest review.

Personal Overview

Harlow hides being a bubbly facade, but she is slowly drowning in her own life. She's incredibly loyal, and such a fighter and a through and through good person. The only person she isn't good to is herself. She comes to such desperation, that to earn enough to help, she starts working as a stripper in a club. That on top of her internship and college.
So, she works herself to the bone until someone finds out and decides to intervene...

Kase (who I can totally see as Jesse Williams with dreads, with his baby blues popping out)has secretly wanted Harlow from the first moment he saw her. The more time went by the more he realized, that so much more laid beneath the apparent constant happiness of the redhead. And the more he was drawn to her. Of course he knew it she wouldn't just give in to those feelings, and he had to fight to knock down her walls. Actually not so much walls, as her constant flight risk! ;)

Fuck it. She wants to run, then I’m gonna chase.

After being pushed to take action, upon finding out about her new job, he was all in for the fight, and believe me, it wasn't an easy one, but he sure knew how to deal with her insecurities.

“I know. She’s really nice, and the good princess always gets her prince. Like you have Kase!”(Hadley to Harlow)

Yes, Kase was a true prince charming, his calm and confidence were incredible. He never had any doubts about his feelings, and always knew the right words and actions to smoothly deal with Harlow's issues, and help awake her feelings for him.

“Man, she’s worse than Jake.” I drained the last of my beer. “I wanna push, but I don’t wanna fuck this up. I mean, you saw her. Half the time she looks ready to bolt.”
“And the other half?”
I smiled. “It’s what makes all the work worth it.”(Kase to Rhys)

And on top of that he is such a romantic soul (sigh), he and everyone around him admitted as much. We learn that he got that trait from his father.

“Yeah, he was always like that. He’d say, ‘If she’s worth your love, she’s worth your life.’"

There were so many times he made melt and sigh. He really was an amazing H, especially because, even after all the bad things that happened in his past, he always kept a positive attitude and a happy and calm vibe that was contagious to those surrounding him.

“Made me who I am,” he whispered back. “I’ll never take for granted all the good I have in my life because I know how fast that can change. Seen the bad, the dirty, the fuckin’ ugly, which means I can really, truly appreciate the beauty for what it is.” Gripping my ass, Kase stood, taking me with him. “I’m thinking now’s a good time to do just that.”

Harlow was such a strong and independent character, beautiful and smart, nerdy and sweet, the perfect match for Kase.

And, while I was a dude that loved some tits and ass, a big brain was what really did it for me.
The fact she also had the tits and ass was just an added bonus.

For those of you who, like me, enjoy a lot of spice in their story, you will not be disappointed. The sex scenes are beyond hot, and more than plentiful! Our H shows us, yet again, why he is such a great book boyfriend, because he allies his constant romantic nature to a true dirty talker, and that ladies and gentlemen creates an explosive combo.

“Watch me fuck you, Harlow.” His words were sharp, clipped. “Take what’s mine. What I need.”

I loved this couples' story and it was good to see again those wonderful group of friends and family. And Hadley was sweet and delightful little girl. In my opinion, the book could have been a bit shorter (yes, I can't believe I'm saying this), and the story would still be there. It was wonderful to read a full book without any OW drama, and the barely any OM issues, which proves to many authors out there that you don't need this kind of drama to create a full length novel with enough excitement and events to keep us glued to the story. So kudos to Layla Frost for that - and it's only her second book!!! Now I want the next in the series, please!

“Marry me, ipo?” I repeated, making it a question. “Let me give you lani. Make your life moeʻuhane.”
She nodded, her face turning red as she blinked back tears. “But it already is.”

Overall Opinion: This was a super cute story with some good characters. It was relatively low drama, and a really easy read. I liked it. It might not go down as one of my favorites or be one that I remember all the details later (I read a lot of books), but it definitely was enjoyable and I would recommend it...so im giving it a solid 4 star rating.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Harlow and Kase's story. They meet through mutual friends that were dating and are now married. Both of them carried a secret crush on the other for a while, and Kase finally makes a move. Harlow's mom is sick, and she ends up working at Kase's friends strip bar. They start a whirlwind romance and fall in love. There is the h trying to run away, the H patiently waiting her out, some family drama, some sexy times, and some sweet moments -- but they get their HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Harlow and Kase's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. This had good flow, and I never felt the need to skim.

Instalove: No. They had some pretty deep feelings and connection right away, but I wouldn't necessarily call it love right away.

H rating: 5 stars. Kase. Awesome H. Not a manwhore, super sexy, super sweet, possessive but not OTT, and knew how to handle the h without making her run away for good.

h rating: 4 stars. Harlow. Loved her! She was a nerd and said the funniest things in her inner dialogue. I liked how she was so giving and loyal, but I got a little frustrated with how she was running away at times.

Sadness level: Low. No need for tissues in this read.

Heat level: Moderate. They had a good bit of sexy times, and they had good chemistry.

Descriptive sex: Yes.

Safe sex: Yes. Condom used, and then after std status and birth control talk they aren't.

OW/OM drama: Not really -- mild at most

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Possible Triggers: Yes, but mild

Closure: This had good closure with an even better epilogue with glimpses into the couple's future in a few different time jumps ahead. I'd call it a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: Safe

Audiobook: Narrators – Alex Kydd & Lauren Sweet
I loved this narration! Both were able to pull off the opposite sex’s voice as well as that of Hadley, a five year old girl. This also includes a list of characters, some with accents that made me smile each time they “spoke”. They were spot on in every way that matters and I will relisten to this one again and again. This is one of my favorite books and when I learned it was releasing on audio I knew I had to have it. Freaking ecstatic that I did!

Original Review:

Second book in the series, second book I've read by this author and they just keep getting better. I loved everything about this story. Some dual POV, strong alpha hero, great secondary characters, a little angst but not enough to drive you crazy, ending with some adventure and excitement. This isn't just the Best Case Scenario, it was the perfect scenario.

My thoughts: Let me start by saying I am biased with this review. Why am I biased? This book has two of my all time favorite type of MC’s personality types. The alpha protective and possessive male with the quirky geeky female.

And, okay, maybe it happened again with the basketball team when I’d been dressed up like Gandalf for The Hobbit premiere.
Sure, I should’ve learned my lesson, but how was I to know they’d recognize me with the beard?

So just be aware this book hit all of my like buttons. From the dogs named Chewy and Boba to Kase calling her his heaven. It was a great mixture of sexy geek girl meets a little geeky but mostly hot guy.

The MC's
Harlow Cooper sweet, snarky, a little self-depreciating. She will say inappropriate things at inappropriate times but above all else is loyal. However, with all of that not even her best friend knows all of her. Her heart is surrounded by a steel wall

Kase Teo- Protective, possessive, devoted, and romantic. At first he fought his attraction (pre book) but finally gave in and went balls to the wall. Kase was determined to steal Harlow’s heart no matter how long it took. She could run but she couldn’t hide.

Fuck it. She wants to run, then I’m gonna chase.

This book was mostly focused on family interactions (Harlows), her life and character interaction. Harlow’s family dynamic and characterizations were very cultivated and I could have just read about Harlow, her mom and her sister for several more pages. That’s how much I fell in love with them. Her family is mostly female dominated with humor and mental strength but also shows it's weakness with physical illness.

It takes a talented author to pull you into a book and make you wish you were a part of a scene. I never found myself pulling away from the story questioning something that was said or why the plotline went a certain way. Her devotion and loyalty to her mom and sister was adorable and really showed that even though she kept friends at a distance. The heart of her was marsh mellow.

There was many times the book just made me smile with Harlow’s thoughts or antics.

Taking the full bag, I started for the steps. When I passed my mom’s room, I tried to ninja my way by, but my skills definitely needed improving.

A lot of times I find when an author tries to create a quirky funny character they either go too far with the jokes and make the jokes fall flat (ie tries to hard) or they make it so over the top the character seems TSTL because of decisions they make. Harlow was a great mixture of funny but had good decision making skills that you didn’t roll your eyes over.

I have seen a few people equate the author to having the style of KA and I believe that is because like KA she does dialogue very well. It flows smoothly so not much can happen in the book other than getting to know the characters and you still think it was incredibly interesting.

I know I mostly wrote about how much I loved Harlow and her family but Kase was amazingly dreamy so don't take my review wrong. This was a strong romance novel. I just fell in love and had to fan girl all over her face.

2nd read review: audiobook was perfect for a re-read.

1st read review: Ok, it's official...I'm in love with this series! When is the next one, I need it now!!! I don't think I have read a series with so many characters I have loved SO much. I want each and every one of them to have their own story. Jake, from book 1, will probably always be the one for me but that's because he is the perfect man in MY eyes. That doesn't mean I can't "look" at all the others.

Lars, really stood out in this book so I'm hoping he's next. Then the author threw out Nox's name leaving little crumbs that I couldn't help but pick up and taste. That short little glimpse of him at the end just solidified it. Then there is Xavier, Key, Rys, Gage, and even the big burly guy who has his crush on Lily. He's in the story for like 2 seconds and I want him to have a story too! *sigh*

Ok, I probably should talk about the actual couple in this book. Don't think I didn't love them just as much, cause I did. This author has a knack for writing kick ass characters that you want to become fast friends with. The way Kase treated Harlow was just kinda dreamy. I loved his endearments in Hawaiian. I can only imagine all the woman that were reading this while sighing like fools.

This series is just full of fun characters and exciting plots that I wasn't expecting. Please give us more Layla Frost!!!

Well, after being so wishy-washy over rating Hyde and Seek, I was pleasantly surprised I didn't have the same problem with this one. I freaking loved it!

Kase is the perfect hero. He did everything right in my book. He's that OTT dirty-talking alpha I love but he has a sweet, gentle and romantic side. He will definitely go down as one of my all time favorite heroes.

Up until about 40% (I think that is the magic point with this author lol) I didn't care much for Harlow. I liked her, I just didn't love her. When she finally got her head out of her ass and stopped running, I started to change my mind. As she grew and let go of some of her hangups, I suddenly loved her.

I have to say, Layla Frost has a knack for slipping in the unexpected. Again, I was totally caught off guard with some of the stuff that went down. I look back and I know she left some clues, but I still didn't catch on. It was great to see Jake and Piper too. You can still see they are very much in love.

Ms Frost is an excellent writer IMO. She kept me entertained and engaged the whole time. I never had to skim, the sex scenes are super HOT and the writing just flows well. She has created a great group of characters and I cannot WAIT to see who is next to fall. So, PLEASE Ms Frost...HURRY UP and WRITE!!!

Layla Frost hit it out of the park once again but this time, I think she may have hit it just a little bit farther. I really enjoyed Jake and Piper's story in Hyde and Seek but loved Kase and Harlow's story in Best Kase Scenario. I'm not going to give away any of the juicy bits (although there was one scene that had me laughing out loud that I would love to share with you but no, I will refrain), but I will say, in my opinion, this is a must read. Can't wait to find out who Ms. Frost has in store for us next- keeping my fingers crossed it's Rhys ;)

Ooooooohhh Wow! 6 Freaking ✨!!!!

This whole story blew me away! I love everything I witnessed here..
Awesome follow up to book 1 in this series. I really loved book 1, but book 2 blew that one out of the water IMO. 🤩🤩

Kase and Harlow are on fire 🔥 together. I love how strong Harlow is, and watching her transition away from destructive, personal emotional demons, that were not all in her head, but due to real outside issues not of her doing but that still required real solutions.
She handled herself well. The daughter any mother would be proud to have.
And I love how Kase is the perfect balance of all the things she needed.
Kase's story is another heartbreaking one too, but the way this male has risen above such things and is not only surviving, but THRIVING, was just incredibly awesome to witness. What can I say? Males who are capable and have their 💩 together has always been an irresistible look.🥵

The danger in this one was tight. Precise and completely enthralling to watch unfold.🤯

I love the journey and the destination with this one, and these characters. MCs and secondary ones alike.

Read this book! But you must read book 1 first to follow many things here. .
Based on books 1 and 2, I would definitely recommend this series.

Running 🏃 to the book 3, Novella, for Nox now.. Ooooh I was so hoping his book was next😁
I hope it doesn't disappoint 🤞

Layla Frost blew me away with her first book, Hyde and Seek, so I was looking forward to Best Kase Scenario and I was not disappointed. Once again Ms. Frost gives us a book with a funky vibe, snarky inner dialogue, snappy comebacks, and an absolute treasure trove of hot guys who I really want to see get their happily ever afters.

The hot guy in question for this book is Kase. I could just eat him up….a hot, romantic, Hawaiian guy. Heck yes. I was picturing Jason Momoa but with crystal blue eyes and found myself imagining him focused on me and getting all up in my business. Yeah, he could piss me off any day. I’d just gaze into those eyes and get over myself, especially considering he was just trying to help.

I had a bit harder time with Harlow. I liked her, she was loyal, had lots of fire and wasn’t a pushover. I just did not get her issues or why she was stripping. I was all geared up for there to be this big, sad reason but the whole issue fell flat. I wish she had either owned the stripping thing showing there was nothing wrong with it, or had a legit reason for going way outside her comfort zone instead of the one presented.

Other than not really connecting like I wanted to with Harlow, my only other issue was that it had a bit too slow of a pace at times. The addition of Nox and Lars made up for the slow pace though. Thank you Ms. Frost for adding some super interesting possible anti-hero type’s who hit all my bad boy buttons. Please tell me they are going to get their own stories. Pretty Please. Oh, and I need Rhys’ story, like now….

Spice’s Rating: 4 Hawaiian Hottie Stars

This was slightly better than its predecessor Hyde and Seek.

I'm going to be entirely honest: I probably would've really liked this book, had I been able to get beyond my own personal hangups. Namely, the fact that this book feels like an example of a story that applies tokenism. I noticed this when reading Hyde and Seek: Merely incorporating one POC into a story does not make a book diverse. Regardless, I like to think that I went into this with an open-mind, after being unimpressed with the first book in this series, I was hoping this would be redeeming.

In Hyde and Seek, Kase was not my favourite character. In Best Kase Scenario, Kase was a character who had my sympathies. His love interest, a tall, pale, red-head called Harlow, had a preoccupation with his "golden skin" (it was described 8 times, which may not seem like a lot but seriously - WHAT IS GOLDEN SKIN? It's a frivolous description) and "dark dreads" (those were mentioned 18 times). Now I know this is a contemporary-romance, and descriptions of physical appearance constitutes a pretty decent percentage of any book in this genre, but this reads hella like fetishization. Once again, full disclosure, I could be reading too much into this, but it's something that bothered me throughout the course of reading, I simply couldn't shake it for long enough to enjoy the story.

Hmmm...I'm dithering between 2&3 stars for this one as it fell a bit flat for me I'm afraid. I loved the characters and the whole world inside this series, but this was a bit too slow.

I loved the chase at the beginning and the suspense at the end, but the rest seemed like filler smut and rainbows. I cannot lie, smut is my bff, but I was waiting, and waiting and waiting for something - anything - to happen to break the smut cycle. When it did finally happen, it was action packed and I was enthralled, but what a shame so much of the book was just plateau, with no conflict, suspense or jeopardy to keep things interesting.

A complete story but part of a series featuring hot guys who run a custom garage. I really enjoyed the first one though so hopefully this one was just a blip and the next will see a return to form, with something going on for all of those amazing characters to do.

5 STARS!

I stumbled upon Layla Frost shortly after she released her debut novel, Hyde and Seek, at another author's recommendation. I was blown away by her writing, by her sense of humor, and the promise she showed in that first book. I've have been eagerly anticipating this book, and I can honestly say that, once again, I'm blown away. Layla Frost did not disappoint!

"She wants to run, then I'm going to chase."

The second book in Frost's Hyde series, Best Kase Scenario is the story of Harlow Cooper and Kase Teo. Harlow is a busy, busy girl: she's finishing up her degree, interning for the news program at a TV station, being a devoted daughter to her ailing mother and the best big sister she can be to five year old Hadley Freckle Face, who is a delightful bonus bright spot in a book full of them. She's also bartending, or well she was before she was let go, and now, well, let's just say that she's taken a job that's decisively more Wicked. She loves her friends and loves that she's been let into the Hyde fold, but she has a hard time opening up and instead she offers poorly executed lies, quick cover ups and distractions or she just takes off running before sharing even the smallest details about herself. She is locked up tighter than Fort Knox, and she's working herself to exhaustion. She thinks that she's either going to choke on the words of her unspoken secrets, or she'll drown in the rush from the floodgates of them. She's studiously ignoring her crush on Kase and unaware that those feelings are reciprocated, but it's neither here nor there because she's got so much on her plate, she doesn't have time for a relationship anyway.

"I didn't want a challenge. F*@! the chase. Easy wasn't my thing, either. I hadn't been sitting back, waiting for someone to throw themselves at me. I wanted natural and effortless. Real."

Kase Teo, golden-skinned and gorgeously inked, is male perfection. He hides his down-to-earth, zen-like wisdom behind a cocky, overconfident yet easy-going and laid-back persona. He's got his own pain, he's made mistakes in his life, but he's dealt with them and he's moved on from his past. He's a good guy, a romantic at heart and he's got it bad for Harlow. Done with the wanting her from afar, he makes his move. He shows Harlow how to slow down, he shows her carrying all of these burdens alone is just making matters worse, and finally, he shows her that there is always time for love. He does this by being slow and steady, determined yet forcefully gentle, with a purposeful ease that is knee-weakeningly, heart-poundingly impossible for her to resist. But Harlow didn't make him work too hard; no, she was right there, drifting in the tide with him.

"You're always doing that... catching me before I fall."

With Harlow now fully invested in, on board with, and most importantly, not running from the relationship, Kase has found what he's been looking for in her: lani and moe'uhane - heaven and dreams. Basking in the glow of new love, all of the jumbled pieces of Harlow's life are now falling into place. What they don't see, though, is the threat lurking in the shadows. Just when everything is solid between them and moving in the right direction, did something happen to cause Harlow to take off running again? Will Kase be able to piece it together in time?

"Let me give you lani. Make your life moe'uhane."
"But it already is."
"Then I'll make it better."

I adored this book. I loved Kase Teo so, so, so much! A quietly alpha man who is romantic and says things like that? SWOON! He was the calm in Harlow's storming life. He brought her peace, and in turn, brought peace to the people that meant the most to her. She gave him the love, the family and the hope for the future he wanted but wasn't sure he was going to get. These two were voraciously insatiable for each other, they were so hot together I was certain my Kindle would start smoking. But they were also so clearly in love with each other and watching it unfold and build was a heart-fluttering, butterflies-in-my-belly, audibly-dreamy-sighing experience for me!

Layla Frost: Remember this name. Follow her on Goodreads and Amazon. This author is the real deal, folks. She is romance novelist greatness in the making, destined to have a career that rivals the likes of Kristen Ashley, Jill Shalvis and Marie Force. Big words from me, I know, but they're backed by the fact that Frost absolutely has the writing chops along with an innate, natural talent storyteller's gift. She weaves her tales with threads of friendship, true love, all-consuming physical attraction, and she binds those threads together with a fantastic sense of humor and smart yet witty prose, and she does this with a much more seasoned author's hand. With these two books under her belt, she has shown impressive technical writing skills and incredible storytelling abilities. I'm seriously, immensely, majorly impressed by Layla Frost, and I'm genuinely excited and fangirlingly giddy over her. Finding, reading and talking about authors like Layla Frost is why I review books and blog. I'm seriously pumped here, and I want to tell everyone about her and these books. I can't wait for more from her, and I'm literally on the edge of my waiting it. Congratulations, Layla Frost, on an incredible second novel. I can't wait to see what you do next!

* An ARC was generously provided by the author with the understanding I would review it honestly. I have pre-ordered this book and I will purchase it for my digital library.

This is a solid follow up to “Hyde and Seek”. Just like the first, it’s a sweet and swoony romance with a suspense plotline introduced halfway through. While you could read this book as a standalone and not be confused, it would be hard to go back and read the first afterward, because there are spoilers for its mystery.
While this book wasn’t quite as good as the first one (it’s a hard act to follow!), it’s still a solid five-star read. I couldn’t put it down!

I really loved the first book in the series, and had been looking forward to this one.

But, for me it felt flat.

In all honesty, the attraction between Kase and Harlow sort of came out of the blue, yes we had that little bit at the end of the first book, where she comes storming out of the garage and he chases after her, but in all honesty, when this book started, for the first few pages, there felt like there was more sexual tension between Harlow and Lars.

And I never understood really the need for all the secrecy around Harlow, why keep her family a secret. And why did she feel the need to be working as a stripper for money, and so desperate for money. I mean what did she do with the money, just save it? But if she was so worried about money and how her mom was paying for stuff, surely she would have been giving it to her, instead of just saving it and saving it. So if she had given it to her mom, her mom would have said they did not need it it, so no need for it all. But if she was just saving it, did she not wonder how her mom was paying for stuff anyway. Seemed like an odd situation all round and forced just to get her working in the strip club, so we could meet Lars (yet another hot bloke, like all the hot blokes we met in the last book, such as famous band members, owners of clubs who just might like to tie you up and spank you etc) and force Kase to make a move, as he had been moving sloooooowwwwwllllyyyy......so slow in fact it seemed to come out of the blue.

Lots of Harlow pushing Kase away, lots of sex regardless.

But I did enjoy it regardless, just not as much as book 1, I can read that again and find it just as enjoyable (actually book 1 is creepier on a re read, as you know what is coming, so you pick up on the little "tells" really that point to the dude going bat shit crazy)

A still enjoyable 3 stars, but not as good as book 1. However, I will be continuing on with the series.

Layla Frost has this way that she infuses hot ass males with a female who has a sense of humor and it comes out being an awesome read. I loved Jake and honestly didn’t think he could be topped on the hot with a side of bossy chart, but I absolutely fell head over heels for Kase. Ms. Frost writes females you want to hang out with males you want to drop your panties for.

I remember the exact moment that Kase topped the charts. It was when Harlow had her sister and Kase walked up to her. I was a goner after that. The way he just took over wanting to help Harlow and break down every one of her boxes. Kase and Harlow were hilarious together. She was this quirky spit fire and he was the guy caught by it.

Ms. Frost has made her way into my must read with her witty writing and characters the love to fight and fight harder for the ones they love. When you are reading a book and having the same thoughts as the female that is what makes you connect. It makes you feel like you reading a book with someone you want to be best friends with. She puts together a fun story with great back characters while at the same time letting the focus be on just the two you want to know about.

Well... this wasn't bad, but to me it wasn't really good either. Kase was a super hottie sweetheart and Harlow was sweet and quirky. I liked them both and I'm happy they are together. The problem for me was I didn't get why Harlow kept secrets that weren't secret. There was nothing to be ashamed of or secretive about. And I didn't get why she was a relationship phobe. IDK... I just couldn't really get into this one.

I think this may be a case (not Kase because I liked him) of "It's me not you". Happy reading.

*I recommend reading book one Hyde and Seek before reading this one.

I absolutely loved this story - even more than the first one. There was just great banter between Kase and Harlow - I adored how they interacted together and the playfulness of their relationship. They could joke around together, and just be who they are, be real.

I was glad that Harlow didn't take too long to give in to Kase. I would have caved within a day with him. Kase was total perfection with all his sweet words, and how he handled her and her "running".

This was just a great all around story, and I am highly anticipating the next book in this series!

Damn that was exactly what I needed and I have absolutely no idea why I waited so long to jump into this book. I loved the first one and it’s on KU so I really have no excuses. And honestly as much as I remember enjoying the first one there were a few little issues I had with it that niggled at me and made me love this one so much more.

First can I just say Kase was the shit. I can’t even express how awesome he was, words fail me. I loved absolutely everything about him. It was literally like the perfect man wrapped up in the perfect packaging. He could be so patient and caring and sensitive before going all full on alpha. And I loved that he was so focused on Harlow and could read her so well that he knew what she needed before she did.

Harlow had a few very real, normal, every day, people issues and I really liked her. I think she would be the perfect girl posse member. She kept all her worries and concerns to herself but she wasn’t secretive or uncaring she was just living her life as she felt she needed to live it to keep herself safe. And even when she didn’t really want to do certain things she wasn’t afraid to go outside her comfort zone to provide herself with the security she needed to keep her anxiety at bay.

Kase and Harlow together were hot. And they made the perfect couple. They complimented each other so perfectly I just wanted to keep reading about them forever. I can’t believe that there aren’t any more in this series because these would be the best Covid social distancing binge read ever if only I had nine or ten more. I am obsessed with Layla Frost’s writing. She literally feels like the love child of Kristen Ashley and Aurora Rose Reynolds and I need more.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.75

Harlow and Kase. I feel like I've been waiting FOREVER for this book and when I got the chance at an ARC there was no hesitation. I was just sad that it landed on my kindle on a Thursday when I knew I would have to take a break because it was James Spader/Jonny Lee Miller night. So I dived in and it took a few to catch the rhythm of the story because Harlow is so completely different than Piper...and although Kase is definitely an alpha male he's so much more laid back than Jake. It was a completely different vibe than Hyde & Seek. Although there are some definite humorous moments, it don't focus on the funny. Harlow is a semi-neurotic mess running in a thousand different directions and Kase is the rock. He's steady no matter the chaos going on around him and has to teach Harlow how to find her steady, how to trust him to help her find her steady. It's so incredibly sweet and slow in the beginning, that you have time to fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other. So why can't I commit to a solid 4 star read? This will probably sound odd coming from me if you look at what kind of books I have shelved....there was too much sex. It was hot, it was well written, but once they started it was like it never ended. Eventually I started skimming just to get to the next section where they had clothes on again. I would have happily traded 1/2 the sex scenes for more background info on Kase and a longer more detailed epilogue. I would have liked to live more of the HEA than just being told. I also think the suspense part dropped in too late again. I had the same complaint with H&S, and I'm not sure it was really needed in this story at all. *shrug* That being said, it was a great 2nd book in the series and I'm already craving the next one. Although it looks like it may be a Joss/Lars story being set up, and I love all the guys I'm really hoping Nox is at the top of the list. I also still find it hard to believe LF is a newbie author, she either has some sick natural talent or has surrounded herself with some kickass beta readers and editors. She keeps this up she's going to be on my short list for "I don't care what it's about...auto-buy" authors.
