This cute little picture book is of a little girl who is writing a story about a kitten. No, a tiger! At ever turn of her story, her cat must interject and make the story more adventurous. But when her story gets a little too frightening for her sweet kitty, she decides it’s time to tone it down a bit. Hence, “a quieter story.” This one will certainly make young readers laugh! The artwork was created with mixed media: watercolor, colored pencil, pen and ink, block print, and Photoshop.

A young girl is writing a story about her kitten, but the kitten is not satisfied with the tame tale. Action, that's what the kitten desires. As the girl adds more and more adventure and danger, the kitten begins to reconsider. Perhaps a quieter story would be better. The interaction between girl and cat is fun, and children will understand wanting something scary, but not TOO scary. Pair it with "Chester" for a fun story time about cats who want input on story-writing. ...more
I have a couple of cats who could relate to this story since they often see themselves as much braver than they actually are, puffing themselves up to their biggest height when they see something threatening outside and then scurrying to hide when the doorbell rings. In this picture book, a young author chooses her kitten as the focus of the story she is writing. But he doesn't like how it starts or how unexciting it is. After all, in his eyes, he is a fierce tiger. He complains with every word ...more

This book is brief, but it is adorable and funny! Not only does it take me back to my early days of crafting stories with my sisters for the young authors contest at school, but it's a great choice for anyone with a little writer, emerging adventurer, enthusiastic pet-lover, and aspiring artist in life. Also, it provides a perfect burst of entertainment and inspiration for a story time at home or a book-based craft project at school. ...more
This book is so fun. A girl is writing a story with her kitten/tiger and getting ideas from each other. She is also drawing it. I love showing how story ideas can evolve and how to edit them back so they don't get out of control. Really great early writing process. ...more

A kitten wants the story the little girl is writing to be much more adventurous - a story about a tiger! Then he gets far more than he bargained for. Sweet and funny metafiction that will delight young readers. This will make a great read aloud.
A little girl is writing story about her kitten, who would rather be a tiger. And he would rather the story be more exciting. So the girl writes the story into a jungle with darkness and snakes and hungry hyenas. Hmm ... maybe the story is a little too exciting.

Cute illustrations
I like the imagination of the book.
A young girl is writing a story for her pet cat who insists on a wild adventure on account of the thinking he's a tiger. The story becomes pretty wild until the kitty can't take it anymore. ...more

Meh. This is well-trodden territory better done elsewhere. I just don't believe the character of this cat. ...more

A cute story that shows sometimes stories with adventure and danger can be a bit much, even for a brave little kitten.
