In order make a girly magazine more respectable, Playboy had interviews with "news makers" and famous persons every month starting in the early 60s. This selection covers 1962-1979, in 700 pages. About 30 people are interviewed. The slant is uniformly Liberal/left. Timothy Leary, MLK, Malcom X, and Castro get tossed Softballs, while John Wayne and Anita Bryant are debated.
Most interesting/entertaining interviews: Mel Brooks, Castro, George Rockwell, Albert Speer, Brando, and Nabokov.
Least Interesting - Daniel P. Moynihan, Jerry Brown, Jimmy carter, Anita Bryant, Germaine Greer, Walter Cronkite.

February 17, 2010We've all been told that some folks actually do read the magazine for the articles. The interviews collected in this book give merit to this argument. Playboy Interviews offers an insightful look into the lives of historic figures such as John Lenon & Yoko Ono, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., Fidel Castro, Miles Davis and more.

Wonderful longform interviews, a format I always enjoy. Tennessee Williams, Joseph Heller, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Dolly Parton, and Edward Teller were the highlights for me.
