When I first perused this title it really did not resonate with me. When I went back and read it thoroughly I found it to be a very insightful and practical guide. Not only does it walk you through what trauma can look like but also different plans for each type of symptom. This is one of those books you will want to reference over and over as you constantly update your mental health strategy.
There are many things to be said about a self help book and this book.
This book doesn't contain spiels and big words. Rather it remains clear, concise and easy to read.
There isn't a one-size fits all narrative, rather when listing the different forms of therapies which help people, the author not only defines them but also how they prove beneficial, and how to attain them.
This book also contains personal experience and statements from the author which makes it special. It is a beautiful thing when you find your community, and maybe the reader isn't ready for that yet. Maybe they're not ready for therapy yet. Or maybe they're done and need a refresher. Either way, the personal comments are encouraging and very touching. Motivating the person in their goal of not only coping but surviving and realizing contentment.
This is a good, short summary of everything you need to diy therapy your own ptsd. And even a great know-how if you're looking to help someone else out.
A wonderful, practical workbook that provides clear, easy-to-understand descriptions of the psychological sequelae to trauma, along with checklists of symptoms, and great, simple strategies and exercises for managing symptoms. It is a great resource for practitioners working with individuals who have experienced traumatic events and provides some really nice psycho-ed and coping skill worksheets. It would equally be a great self-help resource for individuals wanting to work through the workbook at their own pace and in their own time. So often these workbooks lack heart and soul, but this one is written with compassion and a more personal touch, which makes it much more engaging and relatable. I particularly enjoyed the vignettes. I will definitely be using it with my clients.
This book was very helpful & so well done. I have several pages marked to go back to later. It's the kind of resource I will be going back to again and again.
