This book is good for grades k-2. Kate is a young girl who does not realize that she can not see very well. Her parents are more focused on her rowdy siblings than quiet Kate. When her parents realize Kate can not see, she is promptly taken to the eye doctor.
I think this book is good to read to children because it deals with life. Some children can not see very well and need glasses. Those who have glasses may be insecure about them and this book shows that there is nothing to be insecure about.
This book could be used in a classroom setting as a read aloud and then an activity. Students can hear the book and then write or say why it is important for people to see. Students can also play a game of ispy in the classroom to help students work on their descriptive words and observational skills.
I love how this book points out that people don't know what they can't see until they get glasses. And how much nicer it is to wear glasses if you need them.
So happy to have found this lovely little picture book about a girl that needs glasses with a positive feel to it. The little girl is excited about getting the glasses, her siblings are a little jealous, and her parents are very practical about it, other than feeling guilty for not noticing earlier. Great book to share with kiddos that will be getting glasses soon.
