One night. No strings attached. What could go wrong?
Cooper
I was pretty happy living the carefree life of a successful bachelor. Money to spend, a revolving door of women, no commitment, no relationship troubles—it was perfect. At least, that’s what I thought until I held my friends’ newborn baby in my arms, and she smiled at me. That was the moment I realized what life was all about. That was also the moment it occurred to me I needed a baby mama—stat. So… the hunt is on for the perfect candidate. But first, I might have to have one last fling—you know, go out with a bang. Literally.
Kate
Thanks to making a few wrong decisions along the way, I’m now busting my ass waiting tables while putting myself through college. It’s not ideal, but I’m determined to stand on my own two feet and take care of my responsibilities the best I can. But I’m still a woman. I have needs. I just don’t have the time for any kind of commitment. Naturally, when a smoldering hot Marine offers me a no-strings-attached one-night stand, I’m all on board. Turns out… he wants more than I’m willing to give.
USA Today and Amazon best-selling author, Tess Summers is a former business woman and teacher who always loved writing but never seemed to have time to sit down and write a short story, let alone a novel. Now battling MS, her life changed dramatically, and she has finally slowed down enough to start writing all the stories she'd been wanting to tell, including the fun and sexy ones! Married over twenty-five years with three grown children, Tess is a former dog foster mom who ended up failing and adopting them instead. She and her husband (and their six dogs) split their time between the desert of Arizona and the lakes of Michigan, so she's always in a climate that's not too hot and not too cold, but just right!
There are so many things wrong with the female main character in this book. On the surface she is supposed to be a strong single mother but her inner voice and her behaviour make her frustratingly archaic. Contemporary romance is getting away from these damsel in distress type heroines with slut and fat shaming inner monologues. This author seems to live in an era gone by as she writes these old school HP women who have no confidence and constantly beat themselves up. I’d love to see her show us a strong heroine who has a confident inner monologue and knows she deserves the best treatment and a high caliber male partner. That’s the romance I like to read. Show us a strong character, don’t just give us a list of her accomplishments. Strength isn’t in degrees on the wall, it’s in knowing your worth. Also this author needs to be kinder in her writing to all women and stop with the catty side characters and harmful old fashioned ideas that women should be grateful for c-sections because it keeps their vaginas tight, or that we praise women for looking good right after having a baby. It sucks to read this kind of misogyny from female writers. Update: I read a review that said this book was written with vaguely sexist undertones and I completely agree. Everything about this book is veiled in sexism.
Cinderella and the Marine is very cheesy. Cheesy and swoony romantic. I usually like some real plot or some drama into my romance. But hey, now and then, I need cheesy romance.
It has been a while since I picked up book by Miss Summers. And I guess, amid my personal condition, I am glad I picked this book. The story entertained me and make me forget all my problem.
What a great creation! A beautiful love story given the familial extended family changing for the better! Great final realization by our protagonist realizing how important their loved story is! I really loved his indoctrination to parenthood. Well done!
A bit let down with the female MC as she was constantly second guessing herself and deliberatly confusing Cooper. It was super annoying. Not to mention I skimmed the last bit because she was so crazy that I felt she wasn’t good enough for Cooper. I don’t know what he saw in her aside from great sex.
She seemed to have trust issues and she was very uppity, demanding and selfish. And I didn’t get why she was that way, her past doesn’t speak to her current attitude. She made him bend over backwards to please her and when he didn’t she would get mad and threaten to break up with him. She was confusing and assumed he knew what she meant when she said the opposite. Honestly, I felt bad for the guy. I would have dropped her in a heartbeat if it was a guy acting out of pocket like that. And I hated the way she tried to use sex as leverage in their relationship.
Now he was no angel, he didn’t listen as much as he should have in the beginning. But I can see why he wouldn’t when she was saying one thing then doing another. So I gave him a pass for some of that. But I think he confused sex with love. I didn’t feel any kind of depth to their relationship. It was real fast and mostly physical. Not gonna be reading anymore in this series. It’s too bad because the first half was decent but the second half tanked.
This was a DNF for me. Cringy characters, body shaming, sexist undertones. “I’m glad I had a c-section because it kept my (insert word) tight”. Instead of saying Cooper or him, “the marine” kept getting thrown in there. I tried 4 times to continue this but it’s a no.
Mostly engaging, but there were a few issues that impacted on my enjoyment.
Firstly, the heroine was pretty wishy-washy, and kept the hero dangling in terms of trusting him and giving the relationship a chance. I get her history and why she was gun shy, but it went on for close to 150 pages and was just too long. In the end I was almost hoping he would find someone who was ready to accept him.
Secondly, the slut-shaming. The word 'slut' or one of its forms was used a lot in the book, and not in a good way. The heroine thought she was a slut for sleeping with the hero when he didn't know her surname (that was actually the entire premise of the story - her wanting a no strings attached affair); to lots of other normal sexual situations that were termed slutty. It just felt uncomfortable. Even the heroine buying a sexy teddy at a party plan was termed 'slutty'.
Other than that, it was a decent read, and I really liked the hero especially.
4.5 Stars! Cooper seemed like the perfect man. I wish I knew someone like him. Katie couldn't deny she was attracted to Cooper, but because she has been hurt in the past, she was hesitant to get involved with the sexy marine. She has goals and priorities and Cooper would be a distraction. Cooper knew Katie was the one, so he was very persistent. I really enjoyed this book, the first I have read by Tess Summers. Her writing is very good, so I know I will be reading more from her.
It's review time 🎧 Warning ⚠️: a single mom, a hot marine, a sweet kid.
Narrator score🎧 ; both narrator's were great, I loved them. They did the kud voice so sweet. I loved it.
Level of steam🔥: wow, this book has a looooot of sex in it.
Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: the book isn't sad , it is full of insecurities but nothing too much.
The book itself📖: if a sexy marine could have ovaries it would probably be Copper ! He wants a kid , and after he discoverers that the woman he wants has a 3 years old kid, he starts a relationship with her. The book is cute, hot and not very complex. It's an easy story. Cate does have a lottt of insecurities and as a single mom I thing they're totally logical. I liked the book, i wish it was a written in a different manner, I can't put my finger on it. But I felt that Sammy told the story. It wasn't complex in the writing at all.
This is the first book I've read by the author and I have already gotten the rest of them on my kindle. I loved the story between Katie and Cooper but honestly, at times I wanted to reach through the book and smack Katie upside the head!! LOL She's had a rough life and made some bad decisions but she's doing what she has to do for her child. When Cooper comes into her life, they both think one night won't hurt but what happens when Cooper realizes she is what he wants? Love the story and love the characters!!
I love this authors work but this book was a let down
I loved the book all the way through but then towards the end I couldn't connect with the female main character. She kind of came off as an air head not knowing her mind. By the end of book I wanted to reach in and smack the woman and totally disconnected from the book. The male lead was sexy and hot and loved him but the female ruined it for me 😕
2.5 stars The heroine ruined this one, a bit. The hero, Cooper, sees her and is c**tstruck with intsa-luv, but to his point, he is older and ready for a relationship, marriage, and babies, something he sees with his fellow marines, friends and found families. Though this is realistic, in emotion and the way many people operate, it did make the hero a little too calculating in categorizing his ideal wife, the heroine, and wanting her for what seems like at first, superficial reasons: to the hero she's young, hot, and he wants to put a baby in her... 25 yr old Kate is partial to the 35 yr old marine, but she has goals, of which she has rearranged and committed to, and she has an almost 4 yr old little boy, a blessing to her who survived despite her mistake in judgment, family abandoning her, and a horrible accident. How she has gotten to this point in her life has been hard fought and full of a couple of hard lessons. Unfortunately this means that though Kate is willing to be a fuck buddy with Cooper she is a closed book to him outside of sex and Cooper goes after her for all he is worth until he gets tired to running into a brick wall every time he gets some headway, and this gets old fast, hence he low rating.
It's not that I wanted Kate to just give in, but she was fighting moot points and conflicts that just weren't really there, just of her own making. I would rather she had just taken the risk with Cooper, then have the conflicts arrive as they navigate meshing their very different lives (w/Cooper still being in active service, with his climbing military career, and Kate wrestling with establishing a career of her own while still being a military wife; this would have been more interesting than the push and pull, unnecessary separations, repetitive ramblings and miscommunications/gaslighting).
❌“I don’t date.” “Customers? Because I don’t ever have to come in here again,” he teased. “No, at all. I don’t date—period.” He shrugged. “Okay,” but she knew by the twinkle in his eyes the matter was far from closed.❌
חבריה לעבודה תומכים ברעיון...
❌“I can’t believe you’re encouraging me to go home with a complete stranger. Do you know how dangerous that is?” the younger girl admonished. “I’ll take a picture of his ID before you leave, how’s that?” “A lot of good that’ll do me when I’m lying dead in a ditch somewhere off of I-5.”❌
אחרי הלילה הסוער שלהם היא מוכנה להיפרד... הוא...
❌“But what if I want to see you again?” His tone reeked of desperation. She shook her head with the same polite smile. Actually, maybe it was a little sadder now due to his patheticness. “Cooper. One night, remember? That’s all this was supposed to be.” “But what if I want more?” “I have to go,” she whispered and started walking toward the door.❌
הוא ממש ממש לא
❌“Don’t feel like you have to call because of what happened tonight. I came here with my eyes wide open.” “Katie,” he said softly, “I want to call you. I want to see you again.” Tears filled her eyes when she answered in a hushed tone, “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Cooper.”❌
Cooper is a playboy in his mid-30s with a one-track mind until he meets his friend's newborn daughter, and suddenly he does a 180 and becomes completely focused on getting a baby momma to have a child of his own.
He meets the heroine at a diner where she is a waitress. Initially intended to be a "final fling" before hunting for his permanent partner, he becomes infatuated with the buxom young woman (she's 24).
Katie is sweet, dedicated and hard-working. She's raising her 3-year-old son alone, without any help from his father or her own family. Working and studying part-time she struggles to make ends meet but is too proud to take charity. Her head is turned for the first time since her son's birth by the handsome Marine who flirts shamelessly with her.
After they finally have a one-night stand, (which turns into a fling) Cooper decides Katie is the one he wants forever. He can't understand her evasiveness and figures the age gap is why she doesn't want to get serious with him. In reality, Katie is keeping her son a secret because she figures Cooper will dump her fast once he finds out, she's very protective of her son and doesn't want him confused.
There is a surprising amount of emotional conflict in this story. Cooper is 100% committed from the beginning (to Katie and her son) which is sweet in a romance novel, but in reality is very stalkerish. Katie is doing the mature thing by taking it slow, but she has big commitment and abandonment issues to face before these two get their HEA.
Cinderella and the Marine by Tess Summers is a great book. This is book four in the San Diego Social Scene series. This is the story of Cooper and Katie. Cooper is a marine and when he visited his friend who just had a baby he decided he was ready to have a child and settle down. Katie is a college student, waitress, and a single mother. They meet after Cooper leaves the hospital and decides to stop for lunch at the diner where Katie works. He had an instant attraction to her but was only looking for one last one-night stand before he settled down. Katie refused to go out with him but after he used his charm on her she caved. Katie has some deep emotional scars caused by her ex and her parents from when she got pregnant. Will Katie overcome her past to let Cooper in? Will one night together be enough? Will Cooper decide she’s the one for him? Will they get their HEA? I loved this story but really wanted to smack Katie at times. This was an emotional rollercoaster ride with twists and turns and had angst, romance. This was the first book I read by Ms. Summers and I definitely recommend it. I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Summers.
Really fab story, with a decent plot intertwined with a couple of heated scenes to melt your kindle!
I really liked the fact the MFC is independent, and focused on her goals, her son and surviving with a man. It is more realistic that she is wary of introducing the marine no matter how hot sand rich he appears to be.
The fact they both have moments of crisis, of thinking exactly the stupidest thing possible, and through some epic teenage like tantrums... is actually annoying. As adults in an otherwise really engaging story I found the childish moments distracting and at many moments thought they would in fact be better off away from each other. Not really what you want in a romance!
This is book 4 in the series so I liked it enough to go purchase the pervious three, and preorder the next. Rare for me, so good book ??:)
Cooper Johnson is almost 35 and is hoping to be made a major in the Marine Corps. After seeing Cassie and Luke’s baby daughter Sophia, he is seriously considering that he wants to settle down. He goes to the diner across the street from the hospital to have lunch before heading back to base. He looks up and sees a stunning waitress.
Kate Connelly is a 25 year old waitress at the diner. She lost her college scholarships four years ago so her career and path to bigger bucks was delayed. She has been taking two classes at a time to finish her degree without going into major debt.
Mrs. Neal, Kate’s landlord and mother figure, has been so supportive that Katie agreed to go to the military ball with her nephew.
I was surprised when the reason that Katie had to leave college was revealed. I loved that Cooper was so persistent in pursuing Katie.
This was my first book by this author. I now want to go read all of her books! Loved both main characters. I will admit I didn't like the hero at first. As the story progresses I changed how I felt. I kinda feel like I fell in love with both characters as they were falling in love with each other.
I loved Sam too! He was adorable and I thought it was the cutest thing when he called the hero Coopah. Also Katie was an awesome single mom who wanted to best for Sam, but I also think her younger age showed in how she acted. But that is also what made this book so good! The characters were so real, relatable, and loveable. I totally recommend this book! I know I will be reading more of thus authors work!
This is so far my favourite story in the San Diego Social Scene series. There are still some grammatical errors and a few thoughts of the female main character are the same between all of the 4 books so far, however the way the single mother's thoughts, anxiety, trust issues, lack of time it's all very well thought and put not to mention it can be very relatable for single mothers out there who lost everyone' support around them and don't have a finished education yet; unfortunately in this day and age single mothers are becoming the norm and I'm always happy when I found stories about them, no two real life stories are the same and to see some of these real life heroines get their happy ending is heartwarming.
Both MC’s have issues. Cooper is arrogant, a little inflexible and manipulative, but then he’s a Marine Corps Captain. Kate has real trust issues and is a bit self-centered in her relationship with Cooper, but considering how she was dumped by her baby daddy and her parents, it’s understandable, especially considering she’s a single mom in her mid-twenties struggling to raise her son and go to school all on her own. Making those allowances gives you a better understanding of both characters. However, there are going to be times you want to reach in and give them each a smack. It’s still an entertaining read that most will find enjoyable.
“Cinderella & the Marine” by Tess Summers is my first book by the authors. Saw the recommendation, thought the preview was catchy and downloaded the book. The author is descriptive and visual in her writing so it’s easy to fall into the story. I love the both sides get told. However, the only thing “for me” was how long it took for Katie to get over what was holding her back and see he’s already committed. I think that took the book too long to rectify. Oh and I was a little cringy/ worried he would screw up and go ruin what they had. Which made it good in the long run, I guess. 😉 Would have been a 5 ⭐️ if not for my personal opinion listed above.
This is a great read, It is book four in a series but I dont think you need to read the rest of the series to enjoy this book. This is Katie and copper's story. Cooper is a marine ,he is ready to settle down where he meets Katie and immediate sparks fly. It was only supposed to be one last one night stand but will they decide to each other happily ever after?
Katie is a single Mon and has some hesitations about letting Cooper in. I loved reading their story. It has some steamy scenes and it was well written. It flowed beautifully and I loved the characters. I would definitely recommend and read more from this author.
Tess Summers is a new author to me and I was excited to read this one. I haven't read many in the military genre and I really enjoyed it. I mean, who doesn't love a man in uniform? Cooper is living the perfect bachelor life; successful, carefree, no commitments. But the moment that he holds his friends newborn, his world turns on its axis. As much as he loves the bachelor life, he realizes that he wants more. Then he meets, sweet, sexy Katie and he's a total goner. Cinderella and the Marine was a fun, sexy read that had me cheering for their HEA.
Cinderella and the Marine! Katie and Cooper! Single mother, Katie, has been burned in the past. Baby -daddy ran, judgemental parents refuse to help her in any way. Katie is very hesitant to let anyone in her life. But a one night stand? That's an idea she might go for. And it has been a while...
Marine captain, Cooper, is looking for one last one night stand. Then it's time to find a baby-mama and an HEA for himself. He quickly realizes Katie IS his HEA! Now he just has to hang on till he can convince her!
Katie was a struggling college student working as a waitress to make ends meet. Money and school were the only things on her plate. She never expected to meet a hot marine during her shift. Nope. No man can mess up her life. Not again.
Cooper wanted to have one last hurrah before settling down and the cute waitress with the nice rack would do just fine. Could they have just one night? Well, that one night takes a long time to get going. The whole thing was much too long for 400 pages. It’s an okay love story with nice love scenes.
Cooper has decided it is time for him to settle down and have kids but he needs to have one last hoorah. When he sees Katie at the diner, he decides that he needs her to be the one he has his last hoorah with. Katie does not give in to his charm easily since her life is complicated. How much could one night with Cooper make her life more complicated?
This was cute. I loved Cooper’s persistence. He knew what he wanted and he went for it with everything he had. I understood Katie’s hesitance but after a while I wanted to smack her.
This was an enjoyable story of falling in love when you least expect it. Cooper and Kate’s character were wonderful throughout the read, their relationship from start to finish was fun to follow especially as Cooper realize he falls hard for Kate. I also loved the secondary characters that support Coopers journey of being more than a one night stand with Kate. One click this entertaining and hot romance read that didn’t disappoint.
I really love this series. This book is about Marine Cooper who finally feels like he needs to settle down and have a family like his friends. He meets Katie and thinks she is the one but she is very cagey at first due to her living situation And she needs to protect that. The author had written a story that kept me gripped from the beginning to the end and cannot wait for more. I voluntarily read and reviewed a advanced copy arc.
