A good idea i.e. 14 well known authors each write one chapter to create a short novel for charity fund raising (clear description in the introduction). The story develops into a murder mystery set on a luxurious cruise liner. Unfortunately the story is not a patch on an Agatha Christie and only proves that creativity and collaboration don't mix, well not in this way.

My reason for reading was to try guess who wrote which chapter; a study of each author's style. A little bit of fun.

"The Cruise" was written by 14 authors and consists of 19 main characters. With all the authors attempting to include so many people in the story, it ends up lacking much needed detail and the murder mystery and romances are way too simplistic. A forgettable book, but an interesting project and it was created for a good cause.

I bought it at a thrift shop and it was interesting to read from the perspective of 14 different authors writing a murder mystery on a cruise ship. The last chapter by Ken Follett was the best I felt, followed by chapter four where Julia falls for the ex-policeman and then chapter two for the charming interaction between the singer Roman and Mike. Unfortunately the reviewers who complained that it didn't work were quite correct. There were too many different interpretations of the same character ...more

A great story with a surprised turn of events, well written, and compiled by fourteen well known novelists. It is a novel of murder and romance, as stated on the cover and meets the reader's expectations. It is not too complicated with plenty of intrigue. Really enjoyed this read.

Took this on holidays for a light read and really enjoyed it! It actually written by a bunch of authors - all did one chapter each! It was light and easy - but had mystery, drama, murder, humour and romance. A perfect holidays paperback.
