Well, that was heartbreaking and adorable and SEALishly exciting. I adored it!

I just love these SEAL stories - I could read one every week!

This is a novella so full of ... story! Full of exciting excitement! We have Silas working as a SEAL, the sad background of the death of their son. The new work at the DHS. The dangerous moments in Africa. The trying to stay away from the ex-wife, because it gives him too much hope to be near her - as a 'friend'. But on the other hand we so want them back together! And we see the love and sparks! Ugh!

There was a lot of stuff happening in this book - and I just loved it!

I might have even cried a bit here and there... maybe even a lot. ☺

Amazing start/intro into this new standalone SEAL series!!
I'm afraid I have to read allll the stories!☺☺

description

I'm not a huge fan of the cover to be honest. The guy is not my type at all. The face is weird. The muscles are too much. The gun is weird. The jungly scene doesn't happen - but I guess it's okay ... could've been worse ☺

Oooh - and I loved that we met a couple of Hot SEALs for a minute! ☺♥

ARC received from author for an honest review

Ms Johnson, as always, you had me at SEAL.

This is part of the new Silver SEALS series, and what a way to get started.

Silas Branson is all SEAL al the time. And even when he isn't he is.

I don't want to give anything away about this story, as I feel you need to just jump in a bit blind and enjoy this story.

I will say that it was a lot more emotional than the other SEAL stories I have read by Ms Johnson. I may have shed a tear or two as I was reading.

I can't wait to see where this series takes me next

Dealing with devastation has been a part of Silas Branson’s life since joining the Navy and more so since advancing to the teams, but the fallout from his personal trauma has left him reeling. Throw a physical injury into the mix, and life just became a comedy of errors, that no one, especially Silas, is laughing about.

SEAL Strong is a powerful start to the brand new, multi author series, Silver SEALs. In this prequel story, Cat Johnson has penned a heart-wrenching account of personal loss and the crippling emotional heartbreak that ensues. I’ve read many SEAL series, and I’m also a huge fan of Ms Johnson, but this story was definitely something special and unique.

It certainly had all the expected elements of action, danger, and protective SEAL portrayed; but what really appealed to this reader, was the honest, real life account of the consequences of gut-wrenching heartache, and the battle to overcome tragedy while learning to forgive. The plot, timeline and character depictions throughout this story were authentic and made the telling thoroughly believable.

Thank you Ms Johnson for an exceptional start to this exciting new series. I can’t wait to read more!

While Silas and Maggie deal with not only the grief of losing their son but each other, they struggle to navigate the healing process as well as their new dynamic. Just as things are beginning to look up, they are thrust into a life-threatening situation from which only Silas’s years of SEAL training can save them.

This starts with an emotional punch and then takes you on a roller coaster full of action, drama, suspense and passion. Its an engaging beginning to the new Silver SEALs series, and a wonderful introduction to the Bone Frog Command. The characters are appealing and easy to relate to, and the storyline is fast-paced and keeps you intrigued from beginning to end. I highly recommend this extremely easy-to-read, attention grabbing romantic suspense!

Seal Strong is the start of a new Silver SEALs series and introduces the new Bone Frog Command. It is a novella that is short in length but not skimping on story.

“Of course. Only a fool wouldn’t listen to the man who, unarmed, took out three terrorists single handedly.” Chavez grinned.
“I wasn’t unarmed. I had a knife and a pack of matches.” Silas laughed.”

It is a super emotional second chance romance that breaks your heart then puts it all back together. It will have your hear racing with suspense and swooning with romance.

I can’t wait to get started on this new series and read some stories from my favorite authors and new to me authors.

Cat Johnson has written a powerful love story about a second chance with the person you never got over and still loved with all your heart. Silas and Maggie had divorced when they lost their son. When trouble comes calling, Silas has to protect the woman he still loves. Can he do it and then walk away? Or will Maggie let him back in her heart? After all, she's never stopped loving him either. Great prequel story to start off this series!!! Can't wait for the rest of the books!

Loved it!!

I'm a huge fan of Cat's. That being said there's always that one book that has the reader scratching his/her head wondering if the author was having an out of body experience while writing it. I am happy to report that this isn't that book!!!

I was drawn in and couldn't put the book down until it was over. I'm really looking forward to this series collaboration. It's shaping up nicely.

Powerful!

This is sad and gutwrenching - no parent should ever have to go through what Maggie and Silas have had to endure. But then, there is hope.

This story sucks you in deep right from the beginning. I was committed from page one and couldn’t put it down. I loved every page.

Silas has to climb back up from his depression and despair by the tips of his bootstraps. Maggie is dealing with hers the only way she knows how - distance - from Silas. They both are living an emotional roller coaster. Only time will heal what is hurting both of them.

This story details the intimate drama Silas and Maggie are going through. I was reading as fast as I could to see what was going to happen next. I just love Silas and his “never quit” attitude even when faced with terrorists in a foreign country all by himself. I was thrilled when Maggie recognized Silas as the hero he always has been but she never really saw. This turns into the sweetest but hottest love story ever! Silas never lost his commitment to Maggie which I find very honorable and heartfelt. Maggie was just lost in her grief but never stopped loving Silas either. This has all the angst that makes you stay up at night to read one more chapter and yet it has all the feels that let you finally go to sleep with a smile on your face.

Amazing job, I love it!

Reviewed at Romance Is Ageless

I’ll get straight to the point. SEAL Strong broke my heart, it’s just that simple. Life handed Silas and Maggie some really painful, life-changing slices of reality. They once had a happy marriage, a deep love that stood the test of time and Silas being away on SEAL missions. But they could not survive the loss of their son. Or the fact that Maggie blamed Silas, even though he was thousands of miles away on another mission when the accident happened. Silas barely survived the divorce losing not only his son but the love of his life as well. All he had left was his profession, and soon he would face losing that as well.

SEAL Strong is told mainly from Silas’ point of view. In many ways, this is his story. For some reason we tend to think of men as the strong pillars, the ones who never crumble, never cry, always there to be the strong arms of comfort. That is so far from the truth, even if some guys suffer from those emotions silently, out of sight of their family and friends – they still feel the loss, and it guts them, too. Going through the grief, the bewilderment and the stubborn determination of his situation with Silas was a heartwrenching experience. How I loved this man and ached for what he was going through.

Silas and Maggie’s story is also a second chance at far more than a rekindled love but at the changes that life hands us and if we’re lucky, the second chance to rebuild that life. Out of the rubble of Silas’ life comes the chance to win his ex-wife back and to create something that has a purpose, will help so many even if they never realize its existence. Bone Frog Command begins with SEAL Strong and I cannot wait to meet the men and women in this special division of Homeland Security. I loved this story so much, was so glad to see the main couple was in their late 30s, early 40s with a bit of life under their belts take center stage in a gripping, emotional, tension-filled romance that will break your heart and heal it back whole again – eventually.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

This is the book to get the Silver SEALs started. Lieutenant Commander Silas Branson was married to Maggie Branson and a SEAL until something horrific happens and everything in his personal falls apart. He may have lost Maggie but he doesn't want to lose the only thing he has left. His career. But when the worst happens on that front as well, he doesn't know exactly where to turn or what to do. Until Maggie gets him a job with DHS and he figures out how to at least survive the changes. Enough time has passed that he and Maggie are at least trying to be friends again, even though he still loves her and wants her in his life. When they are both sent to a "secure" meeting, they find out just how much they both still love each other. And when Maggie's life comes into danger not only do they figure out fast they not only need each other but they want each other, but Silas also figures out exactly what he wants to do for the rest of his life. If he can make it happen with the politics the way they are.

I really liked this book! It is the perfect way to introduce this series and these characters will definitely bring you all the feels! My only draw back was at one point I felt like Silas just gave up. He didn't move on but it definitely felt like he gave up. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise I loved everything else in this book. They went through something that no one should have to go through. And it broke them, but somehow they both manage to move on and realize exactly what is important and how much they truly love each other. How much they need each other in their lives in order to truly be happy. A great read and great way to make you want to read the rest of the series!

Great story. I loved it.

Silas and Maggie had a terrible experience. She blames him, he blames himself. Instead of getting closer, they have separated (what their son wouldn't want, he would blame himself for it). She can't have him around, he can't bear to hurt her any more. He will do whatever it takes to stop her from suffering. It hurts to leave her, but he will, even if his heart breaks.

Silas seems very realistic to me. He keeps the pain inside, the physical pain and the pain that torments his heart. He has a hard time talking about how he feels. Before he could do it with Maggie, now he feels he has no right. He wants to forget, and he can't. If he could only forget the pain, it would be easy. But it would be horrible to forget his own son. And he doesn't think he deserves to be remember him either. His pain is very real.

I loved how he cares about Maggie, how he gives her everything she needs. He can't be there for her, but he can help her. He still cares about her, he still loves her. He knows he can't have her. He know he doesn't deserve her.

I loved Maggie. She couldn't be near Silas. Her heart was still bleeding. But she cares for him. She wanted to help him. And she didn't forget him. She loved him.

I hated that they suffered. I hated Maggie blaming Silas, although I understand why she did it. I also hated that he blames himself, and I understand that, too.

He needs to heal himself before he can move on. Maggie does it before he does. She supports him, she helps him get through it.

I loved Silas' friendship with his boss.

I recommend it.

From the moment this series was announced at the end of Sleeper SEALs I have been waiting impatiently for it to begin. It's finally here and the wait was worth it!

Lieutenant Commander Silas 'Si' Branson has gone through one of lifes worst tragedies. The death of his young son Jonas while he was deployed also ended his marriage. His wife Maggie blamed him for not being there when the original plan had been for him to be home.

He returned to his team once the divorce was final, looking to bury the pain of both losses in work. Unfortunately in the effort of freeing a child trapped under a truck he blows out his back. Medially discharged he is at loose ends, trying to figure out what he's going to do with his life. A chance meeting with Maggie at a pizza place he ends up having dinner at his old home with her.

He's not sure what he's thinking when she suggests getting him an interview with the Department of Homeland Security where she works.

Surprised that he gets an interview he and stunned when he gets the job, he accepts it without knowing exactly what it would entail other than moving to DC.

A rapid promotion, a Summit in Chad, Africa that leads to some interesting developments for Si, both personal and professional. A glimpse of Jon and Zane from GAPS and a peek at the first mission of the newly formed Bone Frog Command division of Homeland Security.

Fast paced, emotional, and suspenseful with heartfelt sizzle, this book is a page turning must read!

Silas and Maggie’s marriage ended when their son was tragically killed. Silas threw himself into his Navy Seal job to get through his grief and pain. But when he is injured and severely messes up his back on a mission, he loses even the job that gave him a reason to keep going.

Unexpectedly, Silas bumps into Maggie on a pizza run, and he responded to her general comment by admitting he was on forced medical retirement, permanently, because of the back injury. She invites him to join her back at the house to eat their pizza dinner, and he agrees. Later, she recommends him for a job, figuring that his experiences in the Navy would be a good fit for one of the Department of Homeland Security agencies. To his surprise, they made an offer and he proved his worth to them beyond a doubt!

Maggie and Silas eventually feel their attraction for each other growing. He protected her when she was in danger. The reader can actually feel the love between them. Are they ready for a second chance? Or is some pain just too much to get over?

I love the fast pace and the action in this story. The characters were wonderful and inspiring. What they had to go through was impossibly difficult. Grab a copy of this gripping book and see what path they each travel and where it leads them. I think you’ll enjoy this one!

This was the first in a new series from the Suspense Sisters. Ms. Johnson got the ball rolling with this book about second chances and making the most of life.

Lieutenant Commander Silas Branson has lost his son and his marriage. Lack of love wasn't the problem but they divorced none the less. A loss like he and his ex-wife Maggie suffered can either bring a couple closer or tear them apart. It tore them apart. Maggie asked for the divorce even though she hadn't stopped loving him.

Silas is medically retired from the Navy when fate or rather his ex-wife Maggie pulls string to get Silas an interview with Homeland Security. He fights his attraction to Maggie and manages to do it for some time until they are thrown together on a trip that takes them into danger.

This story was faced paced and sets up for the series for Bonefrog command. Silas is down but not out and he proves that when he saves his ex and others while attending a summit. In true SEAL fashion he doesn't quit. He has his flaws as does Maggie but they get a second chance to get it right.

I enjoyed this book and kept the pages turning until the end. This was a great introduction for what promised to be a awesome series about SEALS who prove that they still have what it takes to protect and serve long after they are retired from the NAVY.

What a wonderful start to the new Silver SEALs series

I love how the Suspense sisters were able to get together and continue their Sleeper SEALs series with a new set of recently retired SEALs who are recently retired and older (More my age).

SEAL Strong: A Second Chances Romance starts off the series with Silas and Maggie who recently lost their son who drowned. She blames Silas for not being there and always deployed both are dealing with grief in their own way but when Maggie asks for a divorce he reluctantly agrees.

Silas takes the first assignment and heads off to Syria to rejoin the teams. But during a rescue he injures his back and is sent home on medical leave. The doctor clears him to rejoin but he's unable to complete a training he knows he's at the end of his career. With Maggie's assistance Silas gets a security job with Department of Homeland Security but his very first assignment to a conference in Chad, Africa has him bring out his SEAL skills to take down rebels and save the hostages including Maggie and his boss.

He knows there's other SEALs who would love a job using all the skills that the Navy taught him and thus proposes a new division of DHS Bone Frog Command is born.

I was excited about this book.

I was so excited to read this book and I wasn't disappointed either. This is the prequel to the silver seals series by various authors and sets up how the main operation was set up. Silas is in the seals but is grieving the loss of his marriage and the death of his son as his wife, or soon to be ex wife, blames him for their sons death. As he makes his way back to the teams for his job, a major injury puts his career on the line for good but what will he do next? As his relationship with his ex moves to friendship and a new job has him working in the same organisation as his ex, a trip to Kenya is on the cards. I really enjoyed the characters and the dynamics between Silas and Maggie. The pull on his heart because he is still in love with her but the rear of the unknown because he doesn't know how she feels. Cat has always been able to write excellent books but they just seem to get better and better with each book she wrote. With lives on the line and a retired seal with no weapons on the loose will Silas and Maggie have the happy ending they deserve?

SEAL Strong

This really sets the stage for this unique series by multi authors centering around Silver SEALs and the formation of the Bone Frog Command. It gives you the background of Silas and Maggie and how she got the ball rolling for him to work for the Department of Home Land Security after he was medically discharged from the Navy. Maggie and Silas got divorced after the death of their seven year old son and her blaming him. Now a year later and after therapy she realized that no one was at fault and that it just happened. When they were sent to go to a conference being held in Chad and he was promoted to second in command in his division Silas knew this was a dangerous place to hold this summit with 500 people attending. Silas stepped up and saved the day using his SEAL skills when terrorist attacked them at the hotel where the summit was being held. This made him suggest the formation of a group to secretly handle situations like what happened in Chad. The formation of Bone Frog with him heading this Command. It was also amazing to read about Maggie and Silas getting their happily ever after again. This is going to be an amazing series and a must read.

GRAB A SEAT AND HOLD TIGHT!!!
Oh man. Guys are you ready? Talk about shooting first and ask questions later. One action packed, fast paced, nerve racking, hard hitting, nailbitng, heart pounding, smooth flowing, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. They're so realistic it hooks you from the start with qualities and traits that play off one another perfectly. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it really pulls this little gem together flawlessly. All the drama, fear, uncertainty, love, danger and suspense increases while tension spirals making for one thrilling experience. In a kill or be killed world you trust no one. Have no friends, watch everything around you without seeming to be taking in anything at all. As Cat continually kept throwing up road blocks, detours and even raging lunatics. Yep! That's definitely a few twists and unpredictable as it comes. Keep on keeping on. Cat did an incredible job bringing this read together beautifully. Fantastic job Cat, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

Seal Strong is the prequel to the Silver Seals series by various authors and a great start!!

Maggie and Lt. Commander Silas Branson have a wonderful life and son until the son dies and their marriage implodes...divorce happens, their relationship becomes unbearable, he’s hurt on a mission, ends in desk job then back to the teams only to discover he is not as good as before due to his injury and now must figure out the rest of his life...

Maggie works for a DHS division and gets Silas an interview to help him find what he is meant to do with the rest of his life and that is to form a new DHS multi task force called Bone Frog Command and hire former Special Ops members for whatever threats arise, heal the hurts their son’s death caused them both and bring them both full circle to the love that runs soul deep!!

Suspense, drama, intrigue, tears, laughter and love intertwine and make for edge of your seat reading!!

SEAL Strong by Cat Johnson

Lt Commander Silas Branson is a warrior, a Navy SEAL who goes into the darkness to protect others, to keep his country safe and free. Maggie Branson is a warrior's wife, keeping the home a safe and warm place for family, for building life memories, for love. Until life breaks their foundation much as an earthquake breaks the earth.

Both Silas and Maggie are struggling to pick up the pieces, to make themselves whole again and to see if they still fit together with the new versions of themselves.

When an injury sidelines Silas from the team, he must also find a path that allows him to continue to fill his need to protect, to use his warrior skills, to know he is making a difference for the good.

As always, Cat Johnson's writing makes putting this down impossible. SEAL Strong is a powerful story of love for one another and for country. An excellent start to the new Silver SEALs series, I am ready to devour book number two.

Silas and Maggie have been together for 10 years, but the drowning death of their son Jonas, caused a rift in their relationship. They end up divorcing, even though they both still love each other. Maggie places the blame for the death of Jonas squarely on Silas’s shoulders, because he was out of the country with his SEAL team and had been too busy to teach Jonas to swim. After an injury forces Silas to retire from the SEALs, he ends up working for The Department of Homeland Security. His military experience comes in handy when a conference meeting in Chad is terrorized. He single-handedly disarms the terrorists; however, because of this event, he finds new purpose within his job.

This is a shorter story, but the action is fast-paced throughout. There is an HEA ending, but it takes some time to get there. There’s a solid amount of tension which keeps the reader riveted to the page. The conflicts are expressed definitively for each protagonist, and both Silas and Maggie have to figure out how to forgive each other and move forward with their lives. This story is intense in places, but it details the origins of how the Bone Frog Command develops.

This is dramatic, heartbreaking, suspenseful and unpredictable. Silas is caring, stubborn, brave and broken. Maggie is selfish, stubborn, unforgiving and naive. They had been married for 10 years when tragedy struck, and Maggie put all of the fault on Silas and divorced him. Later, after he leaves the SEALs, she gets him a job at the DHS. He had tried to get her back, she shot him down, he tried to forget her, but he couldn't. Things comes to a head when they have to go on a trip together, them and a few others, and he becomes determined to win, not only her forgiveness, but her trust and love. Silas is a nice guy who is dedicated to the SEALs, and Maggie unfairly used that against him. It's a great story and I can't wait to read more of the series.

Silas and Maggie were married but when their son was killed, they both withdrew and the Silas went off to do his Navy Seal job. Maggie files for divorce and that is the end for them. But on a mission, Silas hurts his back and since it isn't up to Seal standards, they offer him a desk job but he doesn't want that. Back home he runs into Maggie and she invites him back to chat over beer and pizza. Maggie recommends Silas for a Homeland Security job and he gets it. While on a mission he saves his team from a terrorist and in doing so recognizes that he still loves Maggie. But can these two work through their issues, especially of losing their son? Fast-paced book with lot of action, angst, heartbreak and love. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Silas's world falls apart at the death of his son but a Seal stays strong and so he rebuilds.
Navy Seal Silas is devastated by the death of his young son then his wife divorces him and he goes back to what he knows his SEAL team but it soon is taken away when he injures his back and ends up medically retired. His ex-wife Maggie suggests he apply to Department of Homeland Security where she works and when he agrees she sets up an interview for him. He finds he enjoys his new job and gets advanced up the ladder until he is set to attend an international meeting which Maggie will also be attending in a very dangerous location. A tragedy tore apart the marriage of Silas and Maggie. Silas sustained an injury on a mission and ended up stateside. Maggie thought with his qualifications she would recommend her former husband for a job and Silas was hired. His training and skills as a Navy Seal came in handy as he thwarted a terrorist attack on his group. He saved his ex wife and they began to see they were still in love. He also saw a need for a group within the organization to solve problems as needed....thus creating the Bone Frog group...
I loved the interaction between Silas and Maggie. You could feel the love between them. It is a great read and I look forward to more from this series.
