I really enjoyed this entertaining suspense from a new-to-me author, featuring a BBC journalist and a mysterious American artist. Rupert finds his upstairs neighbor injured, after overflowing water collapses his bedroom ceiling. In the aftermath, Luke offers his spare room while Rupert’s apartment undergoes repairs. Luke explains his amnesia but Rupert can’t see how that accounts for his odd behavior and reactions to specific stimulus. Rupert’s job has him investigating a number of rec
I like the bones of this plot, as the author describes the London setting well and introduces us to Rupert and his dashing career as a BBC anchor and journalist. He meets his upstairs neighbor Luke when his downstairs flat is flooded with water and he breaks into Luke's apartment to find him out cold on the bathroom floor with the water running. Chapter 2 features a horribly mesmerizing scene and a strong hint of conspiracy and intrigue. Something is afoot, and the first third of the novel held ...more

The idea of a mysterious character, who had lost his memory, sounded like the promise of traumatic experiences and maybe a dark past. It made me think of hurt-comfort, which is something that I love to read. Sadly, the books didn’t manage to keep my attention. I struggle a lot to get to the end. There was some mystery, which was the only part of it that I did enjoyed about it.

I couldn’t get in touch with Rupert or Luke’s emotions. It wasn’t really romantic and the relationship felt forced. I cou

I happily admit that I asked to read/review this book based on the fact that it was written by David C. Dawson. Full stop. I'd read/reviewed The Delingpole Mysteries earlier this year and loved them,

I was surprisingly shocked at just how much I enjoyed this book. It was an incredible read with so much mystery. I felt really bad for one of the main characters. Not having a memory of your past cannot be easy and when the memory comes back... well let’s just say some things may be better forgotten.

Rupert is journalist. He follows the stories and tries to get to the truth of things. He is also gay and boy has the other news industries had a field day with his love life. Rupert is fine with that

A solid 4 stars for this mystery-romance, which means I liked it a lot!

Rupert is a BBC journalist living in London. One night he goes home to find his flat is flooded with water from the floor above. He goes upstairs and finds a man (who turns out to be an American artist named Luke) unconscious and the bathroom totally flooded. Since Rupert's ceiling then collapses under the weight of water, Luke invites him to stay. But Rupert's gorgeous upstairs neighbour has some secrets, most of which he c

An enjoyable read and I enjoyed Luke and Rupert as characters but I felt it was too short and for this reason its not getting my 4 stars. I feel the characters and story line could have been developed more with more back story. More page time could have been given to the mystery surrounding Luke and the eventual conclusion of the story. It is a 200 page read but I felt I needed more. I would have gladly read a longer book as I was quite engrossed. I wanted to know more about this societ

I loved the mystery of the story. The story had a steady pace. Luke and Rupert were likable characters. They had chemistry and could heat up the pages. Once you start turning the pages, you can’t stop till the end of the book. Hope to read more from the author.

I'm a confirmed fan of David C Dawson's books now and I received an ARC copy for this review. He's not disappointed in For the Love of Luke. There's not only a developing love affair, but also an amnesia mystery which is based on a subject that's very topical for gay people right now. Couldn't be better timing.
The book is very clever in that you don't get to fully know Luke for quite a long time because the first half of the book is only written from the perspective of the other hero Rupert Pend

Don’t let the title fool you! This is a suspenseful and dark murder mystery about homophobia. It’s a puzzling plot and how the clues connect make this an intriguing and suspenseful murder mystery. I like how the author brought Luke and Rupert together and it didn’t result in insta-love. The relationship was gradual as Luke wasn’t willing to just jump into it and Rupert respected Luke’s concerns. I also liked how the author handled the physical part of the relationship and left more to the reader ...more

A bit slow to start and I did think Rupert was a bit pushy as well once Luke came back to the flats.
I do like an amnesia story and in this one it kind of comes from Rupert rather than Luke that we get the frustration and worry. Luke kind of remains a vacuum in a way.
Sandra annoyed me in her lack of personal boundaries but a good friend for Rupert.
We do get to find out the mysteries behind Luke and his amnesia, and along the way Rupert improves his family relationships.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and did not want it to end!

I loved all of the characters in the book and I really hope that there is a further instalment in the future to find out what happens next with the characters.

Dawson bills himself as a writer of thrillers with gay themes. I think that this aptly describes For the Love of Luke - a thriller with psychological elements (one of my favorite kinds) undergirded by a blossoming MM romance that plays out in scenes of tender and playful domesticity and satisfyingly smutty yet tasteful sex.

I adored the setting of the novel, getting to

When I saw the blurb for this I got super excited. I thought a romance mystery and some hawt men? Sign me up! The book was good though I feel if it had been longer it would have been better. Maybe geting a bit deeper into the mystery part. The end just kinda felt like they glossed over it all and wrapped it up too quickly. The characters were good although to be honest, and perhaps I missed it in the beginning, I had no clue th

"For the Love of Luke" presents a controversial subject from a different angle and handles it with compassion. Conversion therapy is already a delicate subject, and learning about it from a victim's viewpoint adds to the intensity. Luke definitely makes a lasting first impression and stays a mystery for much of the story. Rupert is curious, sweet, and caring. Their relationship deve

An intriguing read, full of suspense and romance that felt natural in many places and overwhelming in others. The characters portrayed covered a diverse range of personalities, as can be expected of a book set in contemporary London, but the main characters were mysterious and sometimes overtly intentionally so. The deliberate mystery surrounding one of the main characters became overdone at several points during the narrative, leaving me questioning why the mystery was being delayed. The pace o ...more

Awesome story! Powerful, poignant, steamy romantic mystery that will touch your heart. I really liked the Rupert and Luke and was very quickly pulled into this well written story. The characters are well defined and you will feel their connection. I so enjoyed Rupert's friends and the interactions were wonderful.

The evil that was described in this book was really scary. It always amazes me the depths of darkness that some people will go to in supporting their warped beliefs. 'Conversion Therapy

I have read and enjoyed previous books by David Dawson so I was very happy when he sent me a copy of For The Love of Luke.
The book was well written and I liked both main characters. Luke has amnesia. He is an American living in England in a flat above that 0f Rupert's. They 'meet' when Rupert's ceiling collapses as a result of an overflowing bath. Meet is the operative word as Luke is unconscious.
Then the mystery starts. Who is

I wanted to like this book but it was a huge disappointment. The characters were very one dimensional and even boring at times. They had potential but the author never allowed them to reach it. The story line itself was sketchy at best. I recommend skipping this shipwreck.

Why are female characters so annoying in m/m books?
Don't let the book cover fool you into thinking this is a M-M romance read ... I was quite surprised by a decent plot, brisk pacing, witty banter/dialogue and character development. Murder cover-ups, malevolent faceless 'men in black' types, a mysterious lover with an unknown and possibly dangerous back-story ... there were definite shades of the BBC's "London Spy" present. Added bonus were some great secondary characters - Rupert's friends and colleagues, his coroner contact, his parents! My on ...more

Luke and Rupert's story was a mystery from the beginning to end. Their interaction was funny, sweet, and sexy. The book had some intense moments and David Dawson did a great job with this book.
