What a perfect book, in so many different ways! This book covers a wide variety of topics while still being easy to read. It's an uplifting book about slavery. The grandfather wants to teach the children that some pirates were nice back in the day, and that the slaves worked to help the pirates. No more spoilers! All-in-all, this book is perfect for beginning readers, it's a chapter book so it motivates them to accomplish more, but it's very easy to read. This will need to be in my classroom library!

2/1/2019 ~ One of the best of the Ana & Andrew titles. I appreciated the children's trip to visit their paternal grandparents. Though a bit didactic, the grandfather's story / history lesson about pirates' assistance in building a Black church in Savannah was fascinating. This is a strong addition for my elementary library.

A simple story of how Ana and Andrew visit their Grandparents over the summer. They learnt about their history and that pirates are not all bad.

My 7 and 4 year olds have really liked all the Ana and Andrew books we’ve read, but they LOVE this one. These books are such great opportunities to introduce and teach them a little history without over complicating it like I usually do.

Such a cute and educational series of early readers. This time Ana and Andrew are off to spend time with their grandparents in Savannah, where they learn about nice pirates, slaves building a church, and the Underground Railway, in an age appropriate way with lots of great vocab building words.

A wonderful book that showcases rich history of African-American community in the South. I hope I get to read books on Nice Pirates, Underground railways and building of the first African-American church in the US, next.

I read this for my daughter not realizing how short and basic it is. That being said, its a good intro to the topic of history!
