A Day at the Museum by Christine Platt

Ana and Andrew are adorable African American characters who happen to have roots in Trinidad and the United States. A Day at the Museum is chocked full of learning. Getting around in Washington DC is not an easy feat but Andrew shows his family how to read the metro map. A surprise visit from their grandmother has the whole family heading to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. During their visit they learn about the achievements as well as the struggles o

I bought this book so that my nephews could see other black, and in the Spanish version's case, bilingual kids like themselves. A wonderful book about Ana and Andrew visiting the Smithsonian Museum of African American History & Culture with their Abuela.

It was a birthday gift for my kindergartener nephew who immediately wanted me to read it to him. He really enjoyed the little illustrative details (and Sissy the doll's matching outfits!) even on pages with more text. I would definitely recommend

Ana and Andrew receive a surprise visit from their grandma. While she is visiting, the family takes an exciting trip to the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. There they learn about the amazing things their ancestors did. They get to see pictures and artifacts and even listen to music and read recipes. At the end of the tour, the family discusses their favorite parts of the museum. They are all very proud of their African American heritage.

Ana & Andrew: Un día en el museo by Christine Platt is an excellent book centered around the importance of family. It includes quality background information about the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. As a school teacher, I highly recommend this book for beginning/intermediate-level Spanish readers.
