Vengeful Vows by Yvonne Lindsay
Marriage at First Sight #3

Galen wants to create stability for his ward and Peyton wants revenge. Their marriage takes place in the first chapter of the book and it is apparent there is attraction between the two main characters in spite of Peyton’s agenda. Will they be able to find their way together despite her desire for revenge? Will they be able to create a stable environment for nine-year-old Ellie? Will there be revenge…or not?

What I liked:
* Galen: an admirable, caring, intelligent man who was patient and kind and all that a woman could ask for.
* Peyton: hard to like at first and I wanted to shake her to wake her up but understanding her backstory helped me to see her actions. She guarded her heart, but Ellie and Galen did sneak in.
* Ellie: a precocious, charming, loving girl that deserved to have a happy home
* Alice: an older woman that turned out to be much more than I thought she would be
* The writing – excellent plotting, pacing and story telling
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Well…hmm…the things that might have bothered me a bit would give away the story SO…won’t tell you and let you read the book instead…it was a good one!

On balance this is a good read, taking the marriage of convenience trope and adding a few twists. Galen was perfect (almost too perfect), although I struggled to like Peyton even with her backstory and Ellie added a touch of cuteness to the story.

Vengeful Vows is the third book in Yvonne Lindsay’s Marriage at First Sight series. Peyton Barnshaw is out for blood. She’s planned her revenge since childhood and finally all her hard work is coming to fruition. Galen Horvath is doing what he thinks is best. His life was upended when his best friends died and he became ward to their daughter, Ellie. He wants to do everything under his power to stabilize their lives and believes getting married is his best choice.

Peyton and Galen marry and over time their feelings grow. As Peyton plans to unload her secret, Galen discovers her past. Will he walk away or will Peyton realize that things just aren’t what they seem? And where is Ellie in all of this? She’s wrapping herself around Peyton’s little finger, pulling at her heartstrings, and helping her see what a life of family is all about.

From the opening lines of Vengeful Vows, Ellie’s wish brought tears to my eyes. She has such a wonderful personality especially after having endured her parents’ deaths. On top of that, she pushes Peyton and Galen closer together.

This is such a heartwarming read. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. It is a standalone, but I suggest reading the other books in the series because each of these stories are so magical. Ms. Lindsay is a wonderful storyteller who always brings the emotion out in her characters. I’ve got to say I shed a few tears with this book. I’d like to disclose I received an advance copy of Vengeful Vows that I voluntarily chose to read and review. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This book had me backwards and forwards on how I felt about it, and it took around a week after I finished it to settle on my feelings & thoughts of the book.
While Galen's grandmother's involvement in this book was expected given her involvement in the earlier two Marriage At First Sight books, the way she was involved with the twists at the end of the book were less expected. Having said that, I picked up the link between heroine Peyton and Ellie, the child who entered Galen's care after being orphaned during the story line of the prior book Inconveniently Wed, simply due to one experience in Peyton's past being mentioned often enough that it said to me "NOTICE ME! I'm important"
The story definitely reflected the way each main character entered the marriage central to the story and how this influenced the way they engaged in the development of their marriage. As this is a romance, of course, there was a happily ever after for Peyton and Galen, but it was not without its twists and turns. I found the biggest thing the story reminded me about is that what we think are the true facts of a situation colour how we see that situation and they may not actually be the truth.
I am curious whether any more Horvath cousins will get stories of their own - though I have my doubts that this will eventuate as the extended family played much less of a part in this story than they did in the prior books.

Domluvený sňatek je jedna věc, ale že až u oltáře zjišťují, kdo je nevěsta a kdo je ženich... Není to už moc?

He wants stability, she wants revenge! With the next book in her Marriage at First Sight series, Yvonne Lindsay brings us the story of a man trying to do right by the child he's been left with and a woman who has let herself be jaded by life. The story is fast paced, has well-developed characters and was a lot of fun to read!

CEO Galen Horvath agrees to an arranged marriage in order to build a stable life for the child he was left with when he lost his best friends. Ellie has been through more than any nine year old should have to be, and he just wants to be able to bring her the love and comfort she needs. He doesn't realize that his bride-to-be has ulterior motives.

Journalist Peyton Earnshaw wants revenge. She blames his family for the downfall of her own and has spent a lifetime working towards getting even. She is determined to use this foot in the door to the Horvath family to get juicy details that will make the expose she plans to publish as explosive as possible. She never intended to actually fall for her husband and young ward!

Good marriage of convenience story with some twists. Galen wants to give his ward, a little girl named Ellie, a stable home after the trauma of losing her parents. He uses his grandmother's matchmaking program to find a suitable wife. He's not looking for a grand passion, only someone compatible with whom he can make a life.

Peyton is out for revenge against the Horvath family, especially the matriarch Alice, whom she blames for the devastation her family experienced. She manipulates the matchmaking program to ensure that she is matched with Galen. She expects the marriage to get her close enough to the family that she can get the information she needs for her exposé.

I liked Galen. He is intelligent, kind, and protective of those he loves. I loved seeing him with Ellie, who adores him. His sympathy and understanding of her loss is heartwarming.

I had a harder time liking Peyton. Her focus on revenge prevented her from seeing the possible collateral damage. She also allowed her personal bias to influence her research instead of the balanced writing she is known for.

Having never met before the wedding day, neither Galen nor Peyton knew what to expect from each other. The sparks of attraction are undeniable, but Peyton resists as long as she can. She has no intention of remaining in the marriage, and intimacy will complicate matters. However, during their "honeymoon," Peyton tries to guard her heart from more pain but discovers that Ellie and Galen have wiggled past her walls.

Galen quickly realizes that he has fallen hard for Peyton but can sense that she is hiding something. I liked his patient hope that she'll open up to him. I liked how he made Peyton part of parenting Ellie, even though she initially tried to hold back.

When the truth comes out, Peyton and Galen must decide if their marriage is worth saving. Grandmother Alice plays a big part in the ending as she reminds Peyton that every story has two sides. I ached for Peyton as she looked at her past from a new perspective. There's a twist that surprises Peyton, though I had my suspicions. I also hurt for Galen and his feelings of betrayal when he learned the truth. It takes a little time for each to realize that they belong together. I liked Galen's determination to convince Peyton of his love.

The ending was good, as Alice's matchmaking program and her instincts proved right again.

Kažko pritrūko man asmeniškai. Atrodė, kad pagrindinė veikėja ožiuojasi daugiau nei reikia. Pati idėja buvo paprasta, bet labai šeimyninė.
