Oceans Apart - Excerpt:

I just smiled at him, enjoying the walk through the balmy dusk.

“Hey, so you’ve finally seen the ocean now! How was it?”

My heart sank. I’d been so busy working, I’d only really seen the ocean on the horizon as I drove over the bridge and briefly in between houses that I passed. “I haven’t made it out there yet. I drove up early this morning. Set up took a long time by myself, and I’ve been here all day.”

Leo gaped at me, shaking his head. Then he grabbed my hand so quickly t

I am totally blown away by this book! I love everything about it and I could not put it down. J.K. Hogan is a new author to me and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read this story. Nothing makes me happier than a book that makes me laugh and cry as I get pulled fully into the story. Oceans Apart is beautifully written, sweet, deals with tough situations, is low angst, emotional, has amazing characters and a lovely romance. Sellars and Leo are an unlikely pair but they are perfect for e ...more

This is pretty sweet. I enjoyed the whole "farmboy-virgin" vs. "city-boy experienced" angle. Also the contrast of Sellar having strong roots but want to drift while Leo has been drifting away and wanting to settle down. YES, it's a bit instant attraction because Leo spent only a week at Sellar's farm during his car being repaired but it wasn't too annoying for me.

The story feels a little meandering near the end, but all in all, this one was good read.

I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed reading this. It was such a good, wholesome adventure.

Leo Takahashi is bored with his mundane life in San Francisco and drives his beater BMW across the country. His destination is pretty much any beach town in North Carolina. When he's 90 minutes from the ocean his car breaks down. He's officially worried about being obviously gay and stuck on the side of the road in a rural farm town until he is greeted by Sellars Hodge, local closeted Farm Boy.

OMG was Sell

Wow…this book tackles a whole host of issues…sexism, homophobia, social and racial stereotypes, hidden sexuality and I think I’m missing a few.

The writing was as good as always with Ms. Hogan (I’m a pretty big fan of hers so I expected nothing less). It was a bit of a slow, long-ish read with fairly low angst which seems unbelievable with everything I listed above. Honestly some of the social and racial stereotypes were quick slights based on ignorance said either in passing or during internal
