Moonlight Rogues #2

Second to Surrender

Rate this book
They say blood is thicker than water...But what if family's the source of your pain?

Tristan
I swore I was done with love, after my last failed relationship. Being a soldier means making the tough decisions, all for the good of the pack. So when a little miss full of attitude waltzes in, dragging a shitload of trouble with her, I want nothing more than to make that tough decision and kick her the hell out.
Then she turns those big, feisty amber eyes on me, and my wolf roars otherwise. Shit-of-fuck but now I'm screwed.... And her family seriously has a screw loose. As do I, if the nightmares plaguing me are any hint.
But I'm gonna have to put on my big boy pants cause there's no way I'm letting her walk out of my life - not when there's obviously more at stake, our history included.

Daniela
You'd think running away from a psycho family would swear me off relationships for good. Guess what? So did I. In fact, I specifically searched Tristan out because he's the type I'd never be with. Too much of everything, if you get my gist - attitude included.
So why is it when he starts acting all protector, I can't help but swoon? His dark secrets don't scare me as much as this sudden tornado within me. This was not in the plans... And I just might have to make a run for it before he finds out what I'm hiding and starts hating me.
But when his touch is so sweet, his need for me so obvious, can I really take off again? More importantly, will he let me?

*Book II in a paranormal shifter series filled with werewolves of all kinds, feisty females who stand up to them, and enough suspense to make it interesting. Can be read as standalone.*

Alexa has been a lifelong writer and first began creating other worlds and characters at the ripe age of 12. Her series focus on strong heroines, kind yet sexy men, fights of good and evil and the never-ending learning curve of humanity’s strong – and weak – points. Romanian folklore is intertwined with her writing, more notably in her shifter romance series, the Moonlight Rogues. Her other series draw on world mythology, such as the Avalon myth and Arthurian legend (the Avalon Chronicles) and Ancient Egypt (The Sage’s Legacy).

He sees the demons of his past in his nightmares. She is running from her own demons, who are very much alive. Daniela DaSilva is a wolf on the run from her own pack, a wolf with powers she refuses to acknowledge. She needs sanctuary with another pack and the only person she could think of who would stand for her and protect her was Tristan, but will the past they once shared through her sister be enough or will it be one more nightmarish ghost to haunt him?

When a dragon enters the mix, he may be the only one to help Daniela embrace her magic as a gift, not a curse, but what is his true agenda? Will Daniela’s family find her and force back into the slavery her brother wants as Alpha of their pack? Will Tristan’s pack accept her and give her the asylum she so desperately needs?

There is something happening between the damaged Tristan and the terrified Dani, is it love or another ghost from both of their pasts toying with their emotions?

Alexa Whitewolf is back with more suspense, more action, more romance and more turmoil in SECOND TO SURRENDER with a storyline that spirals around the main characters like a tornado on steroids! Dani is NOT a helpless damsel in distress, she is one strong character, smart enough to know when she needs help. Tristan’s heart and soul have been ravaged by love and war, but there is something healing in being near Dani.

Once again, I am blown away by how talented Ms. Whitewolf is, how creative she can be and how well she pulls every thread together to create a masterpiece of paranormal reading with fleshed out characters, no matter how small of a role they play, daring battle scenes filled with razor sharp tension and emotional connections that run at a fever pitch throughout. Feel each scene as if you are there, cringe, smile and feel involved. Great reading, great characters, great romance!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Alexa Whitewolf!

I am absolutely blown away by everything I read by Alexa Whitewolf! But, loving Werewolves, I was especially in love with First To Fall (Moonlight Rogues #1). Whenever I got a hold of book 2, Second To Surrender, i was so freaking excited!! Well, oh my goodness, THIS BOOK DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!!! This one was as good, if not better, than the first!!!! I love them both SO MUCH!!!

There’s a wonderful romance going on, thats very important, between Tristan and Dani (be still my beating heart). But there’s SO MUCH MORE!!! First of all there’s Witches and Dragons....FREAKING WOW!!! There is so many twists and turns, secrets, and tons of action (nail biting action)!!!

This is a wonderful paranormal romance, that I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! It deserves all the stars in the World!!! Read it!!!

After reading and enjoying First to Fall, I was desperate to dive into the second book in the Moonlight Rogues series. The first book had me hooked, but this second has me addicted. I need book three, and I need it now – such is the level of addiction I am at.

The thing I loved most about First to Fall was the unique system we were introduced to, one based upon mythology and folklore that is lesser known. Second to Surrender follows that trend, and things are just as enjoyable. In fact, this one surprised me because there was even more to it than I’d expected.

I’d anticipated another unique werewolf story, one that stood independent of the first book. Yes, I received that. However, I also received a book that built upon the first in unexpected of ways. Not only do we have another unique werewolf system to engage us, but we also have some bigger questions for the series. I am not going to say what, just know plenty of things were opened for the rest of the series and I cannot wait to see how they come together. It was so much more than I bargained for, which is saying something when I went in with already high hopes.

Of course, the development of the world is just one aspect of the book. We also have more of the wonderful characters, and another great romance. A part of me wishes to say I enjoyed this romance more than the first, yet I enjoyed them both so much I cannot commit to the statement. If the rest of the series continues in this manner, it’s going to be impossible to name my favourite couple.

Without a doubt, the Moonlight Rogues series is well worth the read for fans of paranormal romance. It’s a hidden gem, a series offering us something new.

Ever since I read book 1 of this series, First to Fall, I have been waiting for this book to come out! And boy did the author deliver!! This is werewolves done right!

I loved following Tristan and Dani. It was a nice treat to get real characters in a book. So many books have their characters "fluffed" but that is definitely not the case here. Both of them are battling from some type of Mental Health issues and I loved following them and watching them overcome the battles.

Tristan fascinated me in book 1 so I was so excited for this book to come out and give me a full book to experience him in. All his demons he battles with break your heart and make you want to jump into the pages and give him a huge. The author does a wonderful job of making him seem so real.

The author gives us the same suspense she perfected in book 1 and then some! I found myself devouring the book in a day because I wasn't able to stop until I knew what was going to happen. It was well worth losing sleep over! I now will be sitting around impatiently waiting for the next book so I can get more of the characters in both books and learn more about the next set of wolves!

ONE BLOCK BUSTING TREAT!!!
Holy helda! Alexa nailed this bad boy to the bone and kept me riveted on a razors edge from start to finish, blazing through full throttle, fusing this gem together flawlessly. Bearing the burdens and towing the line, imparting this thrilling, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping, block busting bombshell, blasting this baby to a whole new realm. Lines blur and boundaries crossed, limitations are stretched and bent, booting this baby full throttle, kicking it into overdrive, slamming it into a frenzy with astonishing impacts. Carrying the load and towing the line, imparting this thrilling, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping, block busting bombshell, blasting this baby to life flawlessly. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that are well blended and balanced. With 100% on point realism along with amazing scenarios that are so colorfully described its like you're living it with them instead of on the sidelines. Fabulous job Alexa, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

SECOND TO SURRENDER is, well, the second in the Moonlight Rogues saga, and what a ride it is. We have troubled Tristan, who swore not to love anymore, not after last time huge disappointment. He’s done with love, forever and ever. Enter Daniela, an escapee of her own family who ends up with Tristan, because, well, since he renounced to love, she feels safe. There will be no romance.

Will it not?

At first, when these two get together, animosity and other complex feelings create a strong barrier between them. But as they get to know each other better, that barrier weakens and kind of melts and wow. Will Tristan break his no-more-love promise? And will Daniela fall for him? Read the novel!

Oh, and all of this, while there’s an impeding war between clans and some other foes. Yikes!

In summary, an excellent read with werewolves and other fantastic creatures, and lots of action … and romance, of course.

Overview: Romance is anything but possible for Tristan, an embittered werewolf who’s still suffering the after-effects of going to war and mourning the loss of his former lover, Isabella. But when Izzie’s twin, Daniela—a persecuted but head-strong young she-wolf—suddenly roars back into Tristan’s tortured life, and manages to capture his heart at the very moment she becomes the point of contention for several Alphas vying for dominance, all hell breaks loose.

This unique and absorbing paranormal fantasy thriller by Alexa Whitewolf is more than just the usual paranormal fantasy fodder. “Second to Surrender” springs to life from the very first pages, drawing on a rich tradition of cryptid lore and legend, and presenting a cast of complex characters who possess a wide diversity of ethnicities and personalities based on their individual backgrounds and past experiences. Author Whitewolf then expands on her characters by creating and adding a blend of unnatural beings to her werewolf shifters which are far from the usual fare, including sentient ravens, feral wolves (They’re much more dangerous and wild than your standard wolves!), rare witch-hybrids, and (Get this...) a fully-fledged dragon-shifter! Whitewolf also draws a fine line between hero and villain in “Second to Surrender”, blurring each character’s ambitions and affiliations to the point where it’s nearly impossible to make out who’s a friend and who’s a foe.

The on-again/off-again romance between the two main protagonists, Tristan and Daniela, creates so much tension within the story, it’s impossible to remain detached from feeling their pain and elation as they strive to hold themselves together while battling it out against their enemies for the common good. In fact, Burgess’ plotline contains so many twists and turns, it’s a real treat to try to predict how all these characters, who are so intricately bound together by their pasts, for better or worse, will be dragged by Fate, kicking and screaming into their futures.

With inspired and unlikely partnerships, impossible odds, surprising revelations, steamy sexual encounters, and the deadliest of confrontations, “Second to Surrender” is one Roller-Coaster-of Doom ride you’ll never forget. Better yet, the cliff hanger at the end of this highly-charged story will leave you begging for the next chapter of the Moonlight Rogues series the moment you read “The End”. I highly recommend this macabre yet hopeful paranormal fantasy romance for ages 17 and up.

Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

I received this book from the author for an honest review. This is the second book in the Moonlight Rogues series. This is the story of Tristan and Daniela. Daniela is another strong female that knows what she wants and goes out to get it. She also has her own secrets that she is hiding. She hides her secrets as she feels that she will not be loved by Tristan if he knows the truth. Tristan is a wonderfully nuanced character that suffers from PTSD. The way the author has portrayed the flash backs and the panic attacks associated with PTSD is phenomenal. It is so well written that you truly feel for these characters. Tytus is a wonderfully mysterious character. His story has captured my interest and I hope the author does a story on Tytus as well! I loved the progression of the story of the pack as a whole and am curious the direction things are going especially with the Reapers. I don't want to post but man what a leap forward this portion of the story took! Loved it and I am looking forward to the next installment!

One of those series where it gets better with every book! This new paranormal romance series has a universe and folktales from different cultures, likely things you have not heard in other such books. The author has dipped into folktales from Romanian culture in the previous book and this one has shades from the protagonists home, Brazil and it's widely spoken language Portuguese.
The hero's struggle with PTSD and the heroine's against the patriarchy make this book much more than a fascinating shifter romance.
As usual the apt chapter titles and quotes from poets and philosophers were a charming touch.
I'm definitely intrigued to see what else the pack is going to deal with next.

I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Action, romance, suspense, many paranormal characters

Excellent continuation of Book 1, written in the same style, mostly told from within the minds of the main characters, Tristan and Dani, and sometimes of Luz and Dom (the main characters in Book 1).
Tristan's and Dani's inner conflicts are realistic and gritty, as is their interpersonal interaction. Their conflicts are brought to a head and intertwined through the heavy challenges, action and surprises the pack struggles to handle. The pack members learn more about each other.

Alexa Whitewolf’s “Moonlight Rogues” is an excellent paranormal shifter series, where elements of paranormal fantasy mix, romance and shifter lore that brings the whole genre to a whole new level by delving into real mythology, which not only give the characters a credible background but offers a whole new set of information based in real traditional history.

“Second to Surrender” the second book in the “Moonlight Rogues” series focuses on Tristan Cayne character, a former special ops military guy, who has seen more than his share of bad situations and despair during his time in service, including his own personal demons, the monsters he seems not to be able to outrun. Looking for a peaceful life, Tristan moves to Rockland Creek, his wish goes out in bang as the realizes that his monsters are not the stuff of his nightmares but in fact very real, and under the charge of Dom, a member of his own pack. An to make things even more complicating, Daniela DaSilva comes to town asking for his help, making Tristan resolution to renounce to love somehow obsolete. The plot evolves fast into a full-blown action-packed story that offers romance, internal pack struggles, a shifter war and even dragons, all of that perfectly coherent with the story and sprinkled with elements of Brazilian mythology and folklore. A very good story and… don’t disregard the dragons, they too will have a story to tell in the future

Alexa Whitewolf writing style is excellent, smooth, crisp and entertaining, with a very well-crafted world and wonderful characters and an abundance of real myth and folklore elements that give highly interesting background story without overshadowing the action and romance in the stories. A captivating lecture from cover to backcover.

Unusual powers and everyone wants her because of them. Daniela has come to Tristan and his new pack for sanctuary from her pack. Her father and brother have done something that is unforgivable and she needs a pack to keep her safe. But even though she knew Tristan years ago and has always been in love with him, he dated her twin sister for years until her sister cheated on him. He left to join the service and she hasn’t seen him in at least five years. But his new pack is being threatened by another local pack, and if her pack tries to find her they could be fighting them also. Can she trust this new pack with her secrets and what she can do? Could it put it down.

It's the muddle of the night. The house work is not done and I have to get up early this morning.
But I could not put it down. The suspense is thick and keeps you on the edge of the seat. Right from the beginning it grabs your interest. While the first book was a sweet and endearing story, Ms Whitewolf has created here a powerful story. I was impressed by my fellow Canadian. Bravo! I highly recommend it to fellow paranormal enthusiast. You won't be disappointed.

I love this series so much. :)

In a small town, there is a car repair shop, where 4 guys work. They are all wolves. It’s run by Lucas, the pack leader. My favorite part is, that while they are all wolves, they are not the same, each comes from a different part of the world, based on different mythology and somehow they all found a way to this town. :)

The second book in the series follows Tristan. He used to be a soldier and the horrors he endures still follow him around. He suffers from PTSD and being in his head is very eye-opening. That is a hard way to live.

His life gets a lot more complicated when Daniela comes back to his life. They grew up together in Brasil. He dated her twin. So her mere presence brings out a lot of bad memories.
Now she is on the run, she runs to him in search of protection.

Their road to happily ever after is very bumpy and I loved reading it! :)
