HEAT ღ HUMOR ღ HEA

The first time I notice Miranda Johansson, she's feeding potato salad to geese. I instantly crave the gorgeous oddball.

Tempting her dangerous father's temper, I travel to Ellsberg with the sole purpose of getting to know Miranda up close and personal. She quickly steals any urge I have to return home. Where Miranda goes, I will follow.

Before we find our happily ever after, someone tries to murder the eccentric beauty. Now my only goals are keeping her safe, finding the bastard who put a bullet in my woman, and winning over her forever-growling father.

Down to my Bones contains graphic sexual content, violent situations, disturbing content, and harsh language. The book is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Having loved the Damaged series any mention of the Johansson’s and my interest is peeked. After Brick I wasn’t sure how I felt about a book featuring Rando but the Johansson pull was just too strong for me to resist.

Now if you like Bijou’s books then there’s a good chance you’re going to like this.
I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it.
The characters, conversations and humour are all present but...(see mini rant below).

Miranda is quirky in fact she could very well be the queen of quirky. Quaid is fabulous as the completely unflappable man who knows exactly what he wants. He’s a man happy in his own skin who will pay the price needed to get what he wants. And he wants Miranda.
It’s hard not to fall a little in love with him because of this.

There’s a little who done it? thrown in there but that’s just the glue holding the story together. There’s not a lot of time spent on the why.

It’s entertaining and funny. Laugh out loud funny in a couple of places and I do feel mean for not rating it higher.

There’s so many fabulous lines that my review would be book length if I included them all. This is just one I picked at random.

Cooper sighs. “I miss when she was Randi. I tried talking her into Mandi once, but she lost the ability to understand English until I let the subject drop.”

Mini rant.
Bijou is one of the authors whose books I always check out. I have such fond memories of her Damaged series.
Over the years I’ve read most (but not all) of her books. I’ve loved some, liked others and quit on the rest.
Some of my friends don’t like her books complaining that nothing happens. But her books are character driven, the characters make (or break) the book. The conversations and quirky humour make them unique.
The problem with unique is after a while it’s not unique anymore. The books, characters and humour are all so similar. It begins to feel a little like deja vu.

I don’t want to quit completely so I’ve found the answer is to take a long break between her books.

Miranda Johnansson is known as the oddball in the Johannson family. Her parents are protective and because of an incident that happened when she was a baby. However, Miranda plays it up a bit but they never know when she is messing with them. When Miranda meets Quaid, he asks her out.

Quaid knows all about Miranda, he saw her trying to feed potato salad to some geese and was hooked. Months later he decides to act on it, knowing she is a Johannson and they are not to be messed with. However, Quaid's protective instincts kick in when Miranda is shot. Now he needs to figure out who hurt her and keep her safe all the while her broody father is trying to make his displeasure known.

This was a lot of fun. Miranda is a hoot and Quaid is equally as crazy for her. Another great book by this talented author.

OOOOO, stop what you are doing and get this book. Oh man does Bijou Hunter really come through with this new series. And lets all be really honest with one another, This is Cooper and Farah's kids. How can this not be amazing. Bijou has such a unique voice and never fails to make me laugh and so enjoy her books but this book is different. She ventures into some new territory here and it really pays off. This one is something special and it's not only a book I fell in love with but it made me so excited for the rest of this series. We got to see a little of the sibling in Aubrey's book but we really get to see them in this book and their interactions are priceless.

While on the side of the road Miranda/Rando meets a big biker named Quaid. Quaid saw Rando months ago and knew she would be his now he is in town to do just that. Agreeing to go out with Quaid, Rando sees something in Quaid she hasn't seen in any man before and soon wants to get to know him better. Quaid knows Miranda will be his and has every intention of doing whatever he needs to claim her and make her his. And he sets out to do just that and as Quaid begins to spend time with Miranda nothing could be better till someone has other plans for Mj and wants her dead.

With Mj's(Miranda) life threatened everyone sets out to kill whoever though they could take MJ away from the people who love her, and Quaid is at the top of the list of people who plan to dole out retribution. No one will take the woman Quaid has quickly fallen on love with. After her life being threatened MJ's life has changed and everything she thought she knew is in question, all except for the love she has for Quaid and her family. As their new love grows and they get to know each other more Quaid and Mj's family do every thing they can to bring about justice and make MJ feel safe again.

I really can't tell you how much I loved this book. MJ isn't at all what I though she would be, we really get to see who she truly is and she is funny and smart and very loving. The family dynamics of this family is one in a million and adding Quaid and Casper into the mix make this book out of this world. Colton(MJ's brother) and Mj are so funny and yet at the same time so loving to each other I found myself always between laughing and sighing throughout this entire book. Then you add in Cooper who doesn't like anything not how he has planned it including people coming into his kids life and I literally was laughing out loud through out this book.

Quaid is beyond amazing in this book I loved him so much, Mj is it for him, he see's her and he does what he has to claim her and make her the happiest woman in the world and then protect her. At the same time after hearing about Quaids life Mj does everything she can to give Quaid all he didn't have. I know I have said it already but it bares repeating this family is amazing they are funny as can be and at the same time they love one another completely. There is just so much I love about this book I don't think I could name it all. I have been finding a lot of meh books lately and this book is one you read and say yes, this is why I love reading, now can I find another book like this please.

The chemistry in this book is off the charts for Mj and Quaid, Mj and her family, Quaid and her family, Casper and everyone. This is almost a book you wouldn't think could be possible with how well everything works together. Have I mention this review will be one of those gushing reviews but honestly this books is just one of those books. As Bijou has grown it has been so much fun to read and see what she creates and what she does with her charters. Her books never disappoint me, I am always excited when I have a book from her to read and I always am ready for the next book once I have finished her latest. If all this wasn't enough we get to see how so many past couples are doing in this book making this a must read for any Bijou Hunter book lover.

*Thank you Bijou Hunter for this Beta Book to read and review.

Another enjoyable read from Bijou Hunter. Miranda is one of Bijou Hunter's funniest and quirkest heroines to date. Quaid is a great hero who knows what he wants and is perfect for Miranda. I also love catching up with the Johansson family and can't wait for Lily's story next.

I loved this novel. I love this author! Her novels never disappoint and always leave me laughing and with a smile on my face. I loved reconnecting with some of my favorite characters Cooper and Farrah and I loved Rando's (MJ's) story. I loved the dialogue and the banter. I love when a novel can make you laugh out loud when you happen to be reading in a public area. This novel did not disappoint! From the very first page to the very last page I was sucked into this novel and could not put it down. I loved it and can't wait to read Lily's story.

I always enjoy Bijou Hunter's books and this book wasn't any different. The characters are great and the connection between them felt real from the start. I liked the book and how the family was weaved into the story. I didn't want to put it down and was a little sad when it ended. Fun read too!

I laughed out loud while reading this book more times than I can count. I thought things couldn’t get funnier than Miranda’s conversation with the police, but boy was I wrong, (I mean, it made me laugh until I cried). The Granola thing was even funnier.

The Odd One And The Outsider

This is the first book in a continuing series of standalone stories. Though this book is the first in this series, it is part of a connected group of series set in the same world. This series directly follows after the White Horse Series by the same author, but is about the children of Cooper and Farah from The Damaged series.

Miranda or Rando as she likes to be called has always been labelled a bit ‘odd’. Family lore is that her uncle dropped her on her head as a baby and she’s never been right. What we learn about in this book is that Miranda is not quite as mentally deficient as people believe because that’s what she wants. Miranda has the family wrapped around her finger by behaving the way she does, plus she gets to say all the weird stuff that pops into her head whenever she feels like it without anyone questioning her ‘odd’-ness.

Quaid is nearly 10 years older than Miranda, and he’s an ex-Ranger. His family is pretty neglectful and he hasn’t heard from them in years. He got badly injured in the army and when he retired he tried working for a contractor and didn’t like it. He moved back home and ended up joining the Reapers MC in Shasta where he first saw Miranda trying to feed geese potato salad with a spoon. He was immediately smitten and followed her to Ellsberg and set up a tent in a field at Vaughn’s house (he had a book in The Damaged series too).

Their strange and delightful courtship goes well, despite her father’s general distaste for his daughters having men in their lives, until someone decides that Miranda is a good target.

This is a wonderfully strange book, filled with odd conversations and internal monologues. I love Miranda. She’s what we Brits would call an ‘Eccentric’. This means they don’t care what anyone thinks about them and act accordingly. She alternates between wearing her heart on her sleeve and burying her feelings so deep no one knows what she’s thinking. This keeps everyone off balance.

Quaid is delighted by his wonderful quirky girl and jumps feet first into caring for her. He’s never felt deeply about anyone before Miranda and would do anything to to keep her in his life, even living in a tent and tolerating her father’s passive aggressive behaviour. He’s always made sure to let go of his feelings and live on the surface until he meets Miranda and gets knocked for six. He’s not stupid though and holds on tight with both hands to the person who makes his emotions sing.

I love the way these two collaborate to continue Miranda’s long con with her family. Quaid instantly speaks Miranda’s language and it’s really sweet to see. I also really enjoy their long rambling conversations. I also appreciate how Quaid is when Miranda is targeted and how he handles her panic attacks in the calmest possible way whilst plotting the painful torture and death of the perpetrator.

This is not a particularly high action or deep book. It’s sweet, funny and odd. It’s entertaining and heart warming, because everyone wants to be accepted, no matter how odd everyone thinks you are.

This author has a style all her own. I had a hard time getting through this book and I set it aside several times. We have an extremely quirky heroine and a growly, possesive Hero. There is plenty of back and forth banter that is sometimes funny, other times annoying. If you like this author's style then you will likely enjoy this book. I enjoyed my read but wouldn't read it again.

Carla's Five Star Review

I swear I freakin' love every book written by this amazingly talented author, and this book is certainly no exception! This is Miranda aka "MJ" and Quaid's story. To say that Miranda is quirky would be a huge understatement, but Quaid loves her just the way she is and will do whatever it takes to make her his. However, as these two begin to develop their relationship, a dangerous attack occurs threatening to destroy everything.

As always with this author, there is just as much sarcasm and laughter as there is drama and suspense. I loved the way MJ viewed life. If we could all be like her, the world would be a better place. And Quaid? Well, that man just made me weak in the knees! Every woman's dream is to have a man love and protect her like he did with MJ. Of course, we get more of the Johansson family, and, that is always a good thing! I read a lot, and, if I could pick one group of characters to live with, it would be this family and their MC.

Obviously, this is a book/series that I would highly recommend. Heck, I highly recommend reading every single book by Bijou because she is the bomb!!

I received a copy of this book from the author for a honest review.

Ms Hunter has stepped up her game. Her new book Down to My Bones is about (Miranda) Rando (Cooper and Farah's middle daughter) and Quaid a biker from the Shasta chapter of her father's motorcycle club. As usual Rando is not “normal” but I love that about her, she made me laugh with how she messed with everyone. Quaid is perfect for her, he sees what she is and totally appreciates it and will do anything to be with her. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone because I think a part of the enjoyment of reading is the unfolding of the story but what I will say it has all those good elements you love about Bijou Hunter's books, like love, loyalty, family, along with a bit of suspense. I loved seeing Coop the poop and Farah more in this book, and now I 'm really curious to find out what Lily is up to. As always this book left me feeling happy and looking forward to seeing what she comes up with next.

Rando aka MJ was introduced in Brick S**thouse when Cap went to visit Audrey's family. This is another thoughtfully written heroine who faces mental health issues due to unsolicited trauma, but this time around instead of a hero learning to love and live with her difficulties, Quaid is there to witness her go from "normal" to unwell, and help her deal with ptsd rather than just "accept" her for it. I always look forward to the one liner nonsensical jokes and conversations made through facial expressions and grunts, and I especially love that most of Bijou's characters are super chill... letting us glimpse what life could be like if we dared to leave the rat race and just casually own a couple acres of land, eat barbeque all week, strive to be happy by taking on the least stress, and run free with half a dozen dogs or cats. Oh and of course, find us a biker and she-bop while on the lookout for him. :)

Miranda Johansson (Rando or MJ depending on her whims) is the sneakiest heroine Bijou Hunter has ever written! I completely adored her and her clever ways.

Daughter of Cooper and Farah (Damaged series), sister of Audrey (White Horse series). She doesn't follow any sort of conventional path whatsoever. She uses peoples perception of her as someone who was literally dropped on her head as a baby to circumvent societal norms. If she doesn't want to do something she has perfected the art of the blank stare.

She speaks her mind without fear of consequence. She is entirely herself at all times.

Quaid first sees her at an MC barbeque and decides to track her down. I love the fact he's undeterred by her weird reputation. Quaid is part of the MC but a different chapter and is considered an outsider being ex military and quite solitary.

When they meet, they just get each other and it's glorious to behold. They never treat each other as different. It's other people who fail to recognise individuality as a strength and not a weakness.
There is an excellent subplot when someone tries to murder Miranda. No spoilers but it enhances and deepens the bond between Quaid and Miranda.
There is also loads of humour to relieve the heavier moments.

Looking forward to the next Reapers MC story from Bijou.

Not quite four star reading for this genre but not totally three either. There are good and bad parts of this book. Good were some of the characters. The hero is fantastic. He is level, unflappable and certainly someone dependable. The heroine owned her quirkiness. She is who she is take it or leave it. Mostly people other than her family leave it.

This is why it's hard to see this insta-love happening. How could such a stoic man instantly go for a potato salad geese feeding strange girl. Their dialogue to begin with was odd. To me anyway. I know I've read some other BH books where there is this type of dialogue that's why it's odd now because in being "original" for this character it's come across before. But that's not saying it's all bad it's just quirky.

The mystery part was entertaining along with the odd bonding the men in her life go through. The yurt became a character in the book on its own. Then years are rushed through in the last chapter along with telling the readers their family won't grow. That was something I found odd. Why couldn't we be happy just knowing they were happy in their now moment? We had to have the future spelled out for us. I wanted a different ending for them which is in my imagination but now it's not🙃

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Wow wow wow

Just when you think Bijou books hits the heights out she comes again with another amazing read.
I loved how we get to see Cooper and Farah again and the chemistry they had spilled over on to the kids. I was hooked from page one the sassy mouth Rando Aka Miranda Aka Mj aka Baby girl hahaha you get the drift, she has a way with words that has you laughing out loud and not knowing what will come out of that girls mouth next. The storyline is brilliant there is a bit of suspense with a "who done it" part which had me second guessing a lot, and the flow of the storyline is fluid once you realise who it is it kind of turns you into a psychopath yourself lol. Quaid is the strong alpha male biker but does not overshadow Rando he is supportive and kind yet dangerous all in one package and once you get into the book you see his real side.

You can read this as a stand-alone but I suggest strongly you read the Damaged series as you will not be disappointed the are no cliffhangers but lots of laughter bit of suspense and plenty romance.
so go read it you seriously will love it.

I love everything Ms Hunter writes and for me this was another 5 stars, I just really enjoy her humour that comes through the characters that she brings to life.

Rando is a brilliant character and I think my favourite to date (I say this every time she brings a new character to life). Rando is a complex character dropped on the head as a baby by her butter fingers uncle (funny story) Rando has grown up portraying a slow slightly off balance woman. And to her advantage, often not seen and openly talked over she hears everything. Quite handy when your dad's president of the powerful MC.

Quaid fell in love with the oddball that was hiding out at the MC barbecue and later followed her back to Ellsburg. Cause where Rando Miranda Cooper goes Quaid follows, what a dream guy! Ex Ranger follow club member bit of a nomad Quaid sees through Rando's walls.

Lots of romance and bundle of humour and a dash of who done it. I loved it, already off to re read 😍

The oddball and the outsider define Miranda and Quaid. Rando to her family, MJ lives by her own rules, daughter to MC president Cooper- highly protective of his daughters. Lily is the eldest- the good girl, and Audrey the youngest up and left town- marrying and getting pregnant by Cap- a bear of a man. Which leaves Rando to be whatever she wants, rescuing live and dead animals. She says whatever she wants and I love that about her. Quaid, an MC member from another chapter comes to town to meet the eccentric MJ. They quickly bond, to the irritation of Coop. When MJ is shot, the whole family rallies around MJ, Quaid her personal bodyguard. There are RVs, yurts, and babies involved in their HEA, but it's sweet.

FUKKINYUM Y'ALL!

No synopsis here, just good vibes for another slam dunk from BH.
This book picks up where the Junkyard Dog series leaves off and while it's not the comedy that series is, Miranda/Rando/MJ's story is still funny and quite a bit like the real life most of us live. You feel like a fly on the wall in the lives of the Johannson family; the book moves seamlessly. None of the conversations are stilted or weird, except where they are supposed to be.
If you're debating on BH as an author to try, know that her books are not billionaires, rockstars, famous folks. They are just like you and me. But snarkier. Worth trying if you are into MC romance.

Really good.

Although I always enjoy anything that Bijou Hunter writes, some i love more than others. With that said, even tho not my favorite, this was still much much better than the best from other authors. I loved how she depicted Rando,Miranda,MJ.....didn't quite see her this way in Brick Shithouse. Quaid, i absolutely loved from the first page. Ms. Hunter, you are amazeballs and always will be. Please keep writing this wonderful white trash kentucky tennessee funny romance for all of us redneck gentile southern belles to read

Miranda has always been the Odd Ball of her family. Quaid has never had a family or place he felt was home. Someone is out to get her. Will Quaid be able to look past her tendencies? Will Miranda get closure from her attack?

This is the first book from this author I have read and it was a mix of funny, sweet, and action. I loved how Miranda was different and she owned it and wasn't going to go by other's opinions. I loved how Quaid was laid back, but when it came to protecting what was his, he did it with no hesitations, but was smart about it. Good read!

I absolutely loved Miranda, oops MJ!

She was the ultimate loving manipulator! Quaid was her perfect foil, he saw what others didn't, even if her dad and mom sometimes wondered, her father was just as fun, he knew she could mess with his head and win.
This was actually one of the best MC books I have read, a silent warrior who always lived life on the outside, a woman who saw the world her own way and simply didn't care, yet together they made the most humorous, intriguing, loving couple!

Great book, fun read!

Oh!! This was perfection!
Such a great start to this new series. MJ and Quaid were so great together.
Love at first sight for Quaid. He saw quirky Miranda at a BBQ and that was it for him. No one writes characters like Bijou Hunter.

I cannot wait for stories about Lily and her ‘secret’ beau and about Colton, who has a surprising soft side.
