They Left Me For Dead tell the story of Jackson who had to flee Burundi because of civil unrest and war. We are given a personal account of what happened from the time is he separated from his family, the various atrocities he had to face to arrive in a country that is war-torn.

Jackson's story is by no means new, but it is a necessary. It is a story of faith, resilience and strength.

3.5 stars. It was neat to be referred to this book with a Winnipeg connection. It is hard for me to imagine life in war torn Burundi, but Jackson’s story made it more real. Although the subject matter was heavy the read was manageable and easy to connect to.
A very touching story!
