An alternative to the controversial New Baptist Covenant, Southern Baptist Consensus and Renewal calls Southern Baptists to boldly unite and renew their commitment to the gospel, biblical authority, and their confessional heritage.
This is a refreshing call to Southern Baptists to form a consensus to renew the denomination. While gracious and emphasizing unity, Dockery is not calling for a "middle way" between fundamentalists and moderates, but calling for a conservative consensus around historic Baptist traditions rooted in scripture, while allowing for diversity within those foundational biblical parameters.
Dockery writes an incredibly helpful manifesto on the future of the SBC. He writes insightfully about controversies and issues we face, and how we can go about uniting around essentials for the sake of the gospel. This book is as prophetic now as it was in 2008.
An excellent proposal for the future of the SBC. Dockery bases our convention's future upon a serious commitment to the reliability of the Word of God. He addresses issues such as worship, theological education, and soteriology. A great read for Southern Baptists who are interested in creating a healthy denomination for the future.
