Like Grim Lovelies, this was another unique and cool story. However, I was not excited about the additional romance stuff and sometimes there felt like there was a lot going on in this world. Also, I wanted to see more of Beau and Anouk together!

The author’s writing was so beautiful and the characters are felt real with distinct personalities!

I. Loved. This. Book. Big thanks to NetGalley for giving me this ARC to review!
I fell in love with Grim Lovelies, which I received from EpicFest, and as soon as I heard there was a sequel I knew I had to get my hands on it. There's just so much to love! Allow me to demonstrate.
The characters, first of all. AUGH I could go on about the characters for years. Anouk is such a wonderfully deep character with so many hopes and dreams and fears and regrets and emotions. Just, all of the emotions.

Overall the book was a really good follow up and conclusion to the Grim Lovelies world. I can honestly say I will miss these characters and the world that Shepherd created, and that is how I determine if a book is really good. I want to care about the characters and what happens to them, and I very much did care about Anouk and the other beasties. Even Viggo!
Speaking of Viggo, this brings me to an issue that I've had since the first book. His character development/arc. In Midnight Beauties he s

Hearing that this was the spellbinding conclusion to the Grim Lovelies series and how positive the response has been to our young patrons, we knew we had to take a look at Midnight Beauties. I do have to say that I did like the book, however there were some tangents that happened

3.5/4 out of 5 stars. (I can’t decide, so I’m putting a 4 star rating.) Thank you to NetGalley for the e-arc!

I liked this sequel a lot. I feel the same about it as I did about the first book. I had some problems, but I couldn't put the book down. This world succeeds in being whimsical and fun, but also dark and creepy. The prose contributes a lot to this feeling as well. It’s written in a way that’s a little on the simpler end

I love the magic system. It’s a great concept, having to eat your cru

Midnight Beauties is set in Paris and follows Anouk as plagues and time loops are beginning to destroy London and she and the rest of the beasties try and figure out a way to stop it.

I found this book incredibly frustrating. So things I didn't like:
- There's no high stakes. Sure, verbally the stakes are really high but I never actually felt like they were. The plagues don't seem real, I never fear for Anouk, nor is there ever any doubt the other beasties will be turned back into humans.

Another delightful escapade into Megan Shepherds effervescent and fantastical world! This one takes up right where Grim Lovelies left off and ramps up the stakes as our gamine ingenue Anouk tries to rescue her Beastie family (who have all been turned back into animals), while trying to navigate the glittering world of the magical elite, populated by slick and powerful Witches and the Royal Haute, all with their glistening powdered lips and sly smiles....PLUS lets not forget she must now become a ...more

I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

First off, I'm kind of mad that this is a duology because the ending totally lets the world be explored further! EEK! But, I have to say that I really really really enjoyed this novel and I'm so incredibly pleased by how it went.

Grim Lovelies left us on such a dramatic cliffhanger and I wasn't sure how the Megan Shepard was going to stitch our feelings back together, but holy crap did she do just that. This novel is an incredibl

Ahhh, my beautiful beasties. So much love.

This was a fantastic follow-up to GRIM LOVELIES.

One of the things that sets this series apart from others is the beautiful writing style of Megan Shepherd. It is lyrical and magical, and almost like a spell in and of itself. The world she creates is one I'd like to disappear into.

Midnight Beauties was a fantastic conclusion to the Grim Lovelies duology. It’s filled with magic, adventure and deadly twists.

Anouk has survived the battle of Montelimar but unfortunately her Beastie family did not fair so well. Everyone has been turned into their original animal form and Anouk must find a way to get them back. Anouk is desperate to find a way to save the beasties when she is approached by Prince Rennar with a deal that she cannot refuse. Unfortunately, it results in her agree

"A spark of magic flared to life in her throat, spreading a ripple of warmth through her lips."
What a lovely, magical, nail-biting end to the Grim Lovelies duology. I have fallen head over heels for Anouk as the heroine, and I felt a surge of emotions because of my connection to her character.
Anouk started as nothing--an animal--then was made a maid, then a princess, then a witch. Her story conveys an important message to readers everywhere, that no matter who you are or where you come from, yo

I got an ARC from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

I loved the first part, it was intriguing, a nice change and a nice twist on the story although sometimes a little bit confusing for me. The sequel continues where Grim Lovelies left off. After their battle Anouk is closed inside her townhouse, some of her friends being held captive by Rennar. Then in a twist of fate the prince appears and asks for help.
The story was fast-paced, interesting and captivating. Anouk making a deal wizh the

In the thrilling sequel to the Grim Lovelies book you find yourself launched into the thrilling magical world of Paris. Things are not as easy as they would appear and the beasties find themselves facing a new sort of darkness threatening to destroy the world they are inhabiting. It's up to the beasties to show the world what they are truly capable of. I found the world Megan Shepherd created exciting and adventurous. Midnight Beauties begins shortly after Grim Lovelies ends. The battle is over, Anouk's fellow beasties are caught, many friends are dead, and she and the goblins are stuck in the manor with no good or hope. In comes Rennar who's ready to make a deal and work together to save the world before it's too late.

What follows is an exciting journey of self discovery. The bonds of friendship are tested and new ones are forged. Who can be

Oh how I absolutely ADORED this book! Thank you to Netgalley and HMH books for the e-arc in exchange for an honest reviews.

This book jumps right back into the magical world of the haute. Complex, enigmatic, and entralling are just some of the words I would use to describe the follow up book and conclusion of this stunning duology. While it is bittersweet that this is the end, I have a feeling that the re-read value on this is high with so much rich detail in the story. If you like the Caraval or

Shepherd continues her series of haute-couture witches, goblins, and beasties in the highly anticipated sequel to Grim Lovelies. Anouk, now a powerful force in her own right, is up against forces darker than the witches and Royals who formerly held the keys to the kingdom. Making a dangerous alliance to secure her friends' freedom and sacrificing her power for a greater purpose, Anouk must face her own fears about her humanity in order to save everyone she loves-and possibly her former enemies. ...more

My Review: Well this one was kind of worse than book one. But for another reason. Where book one did well with the mystery aspect and the flow of the story. This one I felt very bored out of my mind. I really wanted to give this one a try and see if the story had gotten any better once feedback of book one hit the web. But sadly at least for me it looks like the author went the other way. I will still be checking out this author's other stories as I really did enjoy her first series but this one ...more

Midnight Beauties is the perfect sequel and finale to Grim Lovelies. It drives home the message of "what does it mean to be human?" from the first book and takes you on a beautiful, fantastical ride along the way. Anouk is a delightful protagonist that, while she's learning, you feel like you're learning too, and when she fails, you almost feel like you can reach into the book and offer her a hand, but she doesn't need it one bit. She's kind and gentle but she's a tough one which makes this seri ...more

This sequel to Grim Lovelies did not disappoint! I fell in love with the world that Shepherd created in Grim Lovelies and I am glad that there was a strong conclusion to Anouk and her story. The novel picks up where the first story left off as Anouk and her beastie friends friends continue to find their place in the world of pretties. Full of magic and fun, this was a good read and I will recommend it to my students. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

MIDNIGHT BEAUTIES continues Anouk's story from GRIM LOVELIES while taking the Beasties' story a level deeper. Anouk is wrestling with questions of identity, fear of failure, and trying to find her place in this new magical world. This is the essential element of science fiction and fantasy -- to pose questions through extraordinary situations that help the reader better understand her own reality. I am in love with this story and can't wait to see what Anouk and the Beasties discover next.

"She was the Gargoyle. Part beast and part girl, part wings and talons, part monster and part savior, and all of her destined to be a legend."

Fierce, brave Anouk who is a "beastie" must brave a test most never survive, in order to become a witch and help save her friends. I loved this book so much! The urban fantasy setting was reminiscent of Holly Black, by way of London and Paris. Anouk was such a wonderful main character-- flawed and messy but always hopeful. I enjoyed this book way more than I expected to based on the first novel. I was happily surprised to find that most of my issues with Grim Lovelies were explained or given purpose in this story. I always enjoyed the world created in this series, and I was glad to be taken on a fun ride again with the beasties, royals and pretties.
