Kindred Tales #10

Bonded By Accident

Rate this book
Slade is an ex-slave, an ex-con, and a widower who has made a vow never to love another woman since his mate died tragically. But after his escape from BleakHall Prison, he finds he has a desperate need for female companionship. How to scratch his itch without breaking his vow? Easy--visit the Pairing Puppets aboard the Mother Ship--female-looking androids without emotions that help unmated Kindred males relieve their urges until they can find mates.

Brandi Dixon is a single mom with a difficult life. She and her daughter live in a double-wide trailer in small-town rural Florida. Brandi longs for a man but she's picky and doesn't want to bring home a string of "temporary daddies" for her daughter like her mom did to her when she was growing up. Then her cousin wins tickets to tour the Kindred Mother Ship and tells Brandi there's a place where she can have hot, no-strings-attached sex with a Kindred warrior. Brandi wouldn't normally do such a thing but she's desperate--it's been a three year dry spell and she needs a man--even if it's only for a single night.

Posing as a Pairing Puppet, she gets picked by Slade for a night of passion. But imagine her surprise when, after the best sex of her life, she hears the big Kindred's growling voice inside her head!

Now Brandi is freaking out and Slade is pissed off that he broke his vow. Yet neither of them can deny the animal attraction that keeps drawing them together. When Brandi's daughter, Emmie, gets herself into terrible danger, Slade is the only one who can help. Will Brandi let the huge Kindred warrior into her life?
You'll have to read Bonded by Accident to find out!

Main characters: Slade & Brandi Dixon
Type of Kindred: Blood/Beast Kindred

As the title states Slade and Brandi will be bonded by accident, which is not really an accident if you consider the fact that they had been dream sharing for some time. And if you consider the fact that Brandi's daughter, Emmie, was also dreaming that Slade will become her new daddy before she meets him.

Slade (whom we met at previous novel Imprisoned as the more terrifying and dangerous prisoner) an ex-slave, an ex-con, and a widower. He loved his wife so much that he vowed that he will never sleep with a real woman again. Thus, he will choose a Pairing Puppet instead i.e. a female sex android.

Bradi has given up men. Her ex husband is in jail and now she tries very hard to raise her daughter without any help by anybody. She lives in a trailer with her alcoholic mother and her very patient stepfather and she works in a bank with a very low salary and a very sleazy boss.

One day she will have the opportunity to visit the kindred ship and after her cousin pushes her she will decide to pretend to be a Pairing Puppet at the place the Kindred unmated males go to scratch their itch.
You can imagine the end result. Slade choses Bradi and suddenly they end up mated.

This is a different book in comparison to the other book in the series. The mating takes place in the beginning of the book and not in the end of the book as usual.
As a result the main concept afterwards is that the two main characters need to accept the mating.
Slade has to overcome his guilty feelings because he broke his vow and he has to convince Bradi that he will be a good husband and father.
Bradi needs to overcome her fear for men who do not want to commit and she has to realise that Slade is the best thing that happened to her and her daughter.

I found the book equally funny and tragic. It certainly was a page-turner.

This book was fun, I don't usually read novels with aliens, but I was in the mood for something fun and that's what I had. I can say that this book is deceiving. Usually this type of book (as I said I didn't read many books of this type but I did read some) and it is usually sex after sex and this book only has 4 sex scenes (it's not like it was difficult to count how many there was) and one was not even "the best of a sex scene", but the story is fun, and it really has a story, we see what a single mother subjects herself to trying to give her daughter a decent life. In the end, I can say that it was satisfactory.

For an erotica about aliens with the mate trope, this book was... okay? The characters weren't overly fleshed out, and the plot was a bit contrived. But it was a quick, easy read.

I love Brides of the Kindred, it's always exciting whenever a new book is published. But the Kindred Tales seem rushed to me, like Ms Anderson wrote those books with the basics, always a similar premise, and there you go, a new book...

The author has a beautifully rich imagination to create new worlds, and original plots which let us get immersed in fantasy, that's why I feel cheated with these short stories. Short can be good, well-thought work, but this was not the case with Bonded by Accident.

Another thing is the heroines of the books...to me they are often less likeable than the heroes, who usually are wonderful examples of manhood. The female main characters are often callous to their men and, too often, blind to the heroes' devotion.

I rated this book with 3 stars because Evangeline Anderson is one of my favourite authors, and I have a weakness for the Kindred...I wish they existed!!!

Slade and Brandi.
I felt like the author was asleep at the wheel.
The setup was that Slade loves his first mate (they weren't bonded but it was still a deep love ). So he just wants sexual release and chooses the sex robots. Brandi too just wants some hanky panky without strings.
Of course what they got was the opposite.
Brandi has a little girl who is cloyingly sweet and acts as a matchmaker for the Goddess in the book.
The story twists in that it's not Slade doing the pushing away (except for his anger at the very start), but Brandi. It got to the level of 'cut your nose off to spite your face'. I did skim a fair bit in the second half.

It was cute.

safety is good.

I wanted to love this book, and I did at first. But...I had some problems with it...as another reviewer noted, the reason for the angst in this book doesn’t make any sense and this was my big problem. We start out with our hero, Slade, who is a tough, mixed kindred Ex con who never bonded to a mate like pure blood kindred. But he was still deeply in love and devoted to his dead wife. He goes to this sci fi version of a house of ill repute that has sexbots just to have sex and not break vows. He meets Brandi, the heroine, a single mom who just wants some hot sex so she sneaks in and pretends to be a sexbot. I found her just like her cousin, only she blames her cousin for her dumb choices. Plus, I found how the couple meets just weird and a more awkward version of another book, Touching Ice which is a better book. I had a hard time believing this single mom (whose child was sticky sweet and more mature than her mom) who works all the time is going to rush and to follow along with her cousin. That’s a teenager act. Brandi and Slade have sex and then he’s suddenly bonded to her and she’s the one saying no to a relationship because she was making all kinds of assumptions on a dude she didn’t know. I didn’t like that Slade was in instalove. Not very romantic. What’s with all the calling her baby? No. This could have been great. I’m actually mad that it took that turn into trite and stupid.

After reading about Slade in the main series with Book 22, Imprisoned, I knew I needed to read his book right away. Even though I had other library books to read first, I really wanted to read this one. I read another Kindred book with the pairing puppets, and it's so hilarious.

Unfortunately, this book didn't live up to my high hopes. I think there was just less going on than in the other Kindred books and the lack was felt acutely. I love how there are "quests" in the Brides of the Kindred books, but this one had no "quest" and the conflict wasn't compelling. I didn't understand why Slade fell in love with Brandi either.

Brandi's daughter and dog were cute, though.

I saw a review for this book or book 22 that the alien girls are always normal-sized and it's always the human girls who are plus-size, and now I can't unsee it. (It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but most of the heroines in the series are plus-size.)

Short and sweet

If this wasn’t a Kindred novel some parts would be hard to believe, but this world is vastly different from ours. Despite that, I wish there would have been a bit more substance to it. I knew they would be bonded quickly, but the story line had no depth to it. It read more like our main characters were just a side story rather than the main characters.

Slade’s story seems very interesting.

I have liked him since I met him in a previous book when he escaped from prison. I kind of wish this book could have been more like bringing together the past and present by telling his story in more details, seeing his hurt and why he made his vow and then seeing his redemption with his bride. Having said that, Brandi was not my favorite heroine/ bride at all. She was mildly annoying. She made a series of bad choices that put him in an awkward spot and yet he’s constantly judged by her and having to prove himself. I still enjoyed the read, but not my favorite Kindred book.

Ok I really like Slade since we were introduced to him from the previous story when he escaped from prison. So I was looking forward to reading his story. Even though I enjoyed this book I was expecting a little bit more. I felt like Slade got the short end of the stick. Everything about Slade seem so interesting I wanted to read more about that. Don't get me started on Brandi she wasn't my favorite heroine at all. She was to gullible, naïve, and mildly annoying. Brandi was the one who made lots of bad choice by allowing her cousin to manipulate her putting her and Slade in a awkward situation. Yet Brandi had the audacity to judge to judge him. Yeah I didn't care for her at all!!! Overall enjoyable and entertaining read looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I received copy of this via Booksprout I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Very surprised

I haven't read a SIFI/Fantasy book in several years. This, to say the least, was a wonderful read! I loved everything about it. The characters were relatable and easy to understand. They were very easy to like as well. I read the book by chance, and I will probably read another one of Ms. Anderson books again!

I really wanted to like this, the idea was interesting, but there was no way. Why is that? Let's see...

✘Annoying girl. Really, this girl is obstinate. In the beginning I could have understood but more than half the book?
✘Child like banter. These two sometimes don't seem adults.
✘She keeps calling him "the big kindred" even after lines above he told her his name is Slade. She keeps doing it more than half the book and no, it's not a nickname.
✘The use of baby and sweetheart though I hated more baby. Like I said I can stomach its use from time to time but not always please!
✘And last but not least, these "little voices" that they refer to almost everytime they're thinking. One of the most annoying things I have ever found in my reading life. One or two max per chapter, ok. More than that, no please.

⁻ Yeah, right, whispered a sarcastic voice in his head.
⁻ Didn't you shout the house down when you first meet Slade too? whispered a nasty little voice in her head.
⁻ Now, whispered a dark, possesive voice in his head.
⁻ But what if you got her pregnant? whispered a little voice in his head.

I almost cry.

Another big success for Evangeline. This one is shorter, but it packs a punch. Brandi has gotten the short end of the stick in her life so far, but when she’s given the opportunity for a no strings attached night with a Kindred, she jumps...without knowing the consequences. Slade is just getting out of a prison term that was a BS call and is looking to hit up a painting puppet but no way is he looking for a real female. These two have a good deal to get through to get their HEA, but with a few scares along the way, they get it...and little Emma proves she knows what she’s talking about. The Goddess works in mysterious ways for sure.

Oh boy!

I was really excited to read this book from the start and to be perfectly honest it didn't disappoint. My only 'hang up' about it is that it lacked the depth I've come to expect from the kindred series. However, to be fair this is a stand alone story and a very sweet one that as usual had me loving each character.
To any reader considering the kindred series, let me just warn you ahead of time you get addicted fast!
This story was no exception aside from the fact I don't need to buy the next installment to 'get my fix.'
I loved Slade and Brandi and how they came together, and I LOVE the kindred series!

Just when you think that Evangeline Anderson’s stories could not get any better she proves you wrong. I already could tell that Slade’s story was going to be a good one, but I never dreamed it would be this good.

When Slade was introduced to us in the previous book, fyi this is a standalone so do not worry if you have not read the previous book, I had could already see I loved the direction the author was going for his story.

I fell in love with Slade as the author gradually pulled back his layers in the story. We got to truly look deep into Slade. See his pain, fear, happiness, and rage. Just to get a glimpse of his story you would think he is not a good man but Slade truly has a heart of gold.

Brandi done what all of us have fantasized about since the Kindred were introduced. Come on, who would not want to be pretend to be a “pleasure puppet” for one of the hunky Kindred to play with.

My heart broke for Brandi. She was a single mom trying to get by. She had a lot going on in her life and her job was not idea. Reading about her personality I was surprised her character was brave enough to pretend to be a pleasure puppet. This is not saying she was not a strong character because she was and also a very protective and caring mother.

I loved when Emmie (who was Brandi’s daughter) was brought into the story. I love when the author does this. It was something seeing the interaction between Emmie and the Kindred. I love how the author writes in the Goddess speaking to the children. It is like the Goddess in my eyes is helping the child adjust to what is to come.

I can only imagine the fear that Brandi must of felt when Emmie was in danger. Funny how things work themselves out though.

This was a great story and there are plenty of steamy parts. So happy I got a chance to read the book.

For once, I quite liked the fast pace of this Novella.

Slade is a hybrid Kindred between Blood and Beast. Brandi is a human female wanting to make a better life for herself and her daughter Emmalin.

Thrown together in a fast paced bonding that neither of them saw coming, they both have to navigate how to trust each other and how to work with their newly formed bond. Slade wants to honour a lost love, and Brandi does not want another man in her life who will ditch her like trash. Both want companionship and love.

This novella is written where the bonding takes place within the first 5 minutes of reading. Then we spend the rest of the novella getting to know our main characters. I think what takes my interest with this story is that Brandi is like most of us. Trying to make a living and only just making ends meet. Slade is the type of man who people take for granted. He has only ever known pain, and the one person whom he loved was brutally taken from him. Both come from troubled pasts, and both believe they don't need someone else to care for them.

Only down side is that this novella is much shorter than some of the others. I would have preferred to have a few more chapters to add to our story. It was sufficient enough to have a good end, but I still felt like the story was rushed a bit.

Overall, I did quite enjoy this novella, and look forward to the next installment for the Kindred Series

I loved Slade!! We were introduced to Slade in the previous book and now we get to read his story. Slade was known as The Beast because of the things he did while imprisoned. That made him seem scary to others, however, he was wrongly accused or defending himself.
When Slade breaks out of prison he ends up on the Mother Ship and decides to visit the pairing puppets, these are the robot type females the unmated mates use to....relieve the tension. He was not prepared to find his mate. Brandi is looking for a one night stand and pretends to be a puppet. When Slade finds out what Brandi does, she runs. But Slade isn't about to let his mate get away.
Brandi has a bit of a rough life and isn't sure she can trust Slade around her incredible adorable daughter. But we all know you can't resist those Kindred males for long!!!! Especially when he comes your the rescue!!!!!!
His alpha male tendencies and dirty talk were incredible awesome and I loved his say it like it is attitude. I hope this series never ends!

Completely Enjoyed this Single-mom / Kindred story!! 4.5 stars

Slade is a hybrid Kindred; an ex-con and ex-slave who has vowed never to love another woman after losing his mate. Visiting the androids on the Mother ship will not be breaking that vow. He had been dreaming of one for months now.

Brandi always gets in trouble when following her friend Crystal. Sneaking into this section of the Mother ship to have a no-string, one-time night seemed like a good way to scratch her itch.

When Slade bonds with Brandi (which should be impossible) they are both nonplussed. Brandi returns to Earth to “pretend it never happened”; but the bond is so strong Slade can tell when she is in trouble even from the Mother ship.
Daughter Emma immediately takes to him and calls him Daddy-man. What follows is a great story of adapting to circumstances, and how the Goddess-lady works her magic.

>Book review – Bonded by Accident
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 10th in the Kindred Tales series and ends with an HEA. Slade is an ex-slave, whose slave girlfriend was killed. He is so upset that he vowed never to have another female. Saved from prison, he travels to the Kindred Mother ship and decides if he couples with a pairing puppet and not a real woman, he would not be breaking his vow. Brandi is talked into acting as a pairing puppet and Slade chooses her to pair with. Of course they bond. Slade is furious, but can’t ignore his bonded mate.
>Brandi leads a tough life. A single mom with a sleazy boss, Slade feels her worry and goes to earth to help her. I love how alpha he is. He arrives in the nick of time, more than once, and has a sweet rapport with Brandi’s little girl.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. Seeing such an alpha male so sweet and attentive to a small child is truly mesmerizing.

A hybrid warrior, born of both worlds, belonging to none
Seeking to end his sexual torment without breaking a vow
A girl from Earth with an itch to scratch
Looking for no-strings-attached sex
But when you make love with a Kindred, things get complicated
What are Brandi and Slade going to do now that they are...
Bonded by Accident?

*Spoilers-maybe*

So you wanted no strings attached... fun?! Well, the fun got a little exciting and it left you with more of a burning need and a mans voice in your head?! EA added another twist to her Kindred stories! And what a great twist it was. Bonded by Accident was a great tale between three souls that were changed for a lifetime when things got a little and Brandi decided to let her hair down for a little bit. An excellent story! Loved the realness of backwoods Florida. I enjoyed this read so much! I thought the depictions of Plant City were right on the money! Slade and Brandi were the perfect reluctant couple. Even though they started out fast, they came back to slow it down and do it right. They had things to work on in their own lives, their own hangups and histories, and it made a fun read to see how they could work their work arounds. Someone else reviewed and said that the police thing was off, but unless they've live in places like that, they don't know the reality. I thought it was authentic. Her cousin Crystal was a trip, and we all know someone like that, who can talk us into so many stupid things, so I got her too. All in all, this book was fun to read, sexy, dramatic at times, and a whole lot of reality mixed in.

So Brandi goes for a tour of a Kindred ship and slips away to pose as a pleasure bot so she can hookup with a Kindred guy. In comes Slade, who after being imprisoned for 6 years if after some quick, no strings release.

I liked the initial premise of this book, I just felt a bit let down with the reality. It just felt a bit rushed and basic. Slade kept calling her ‘baby’ and I found his dirty talk a bit cringy. I just wasn’t on the bus that quickly. I needed more build up, more finesse. And Slade just didn’t sound like an alien.

The push/pull element felt a bit forced and Brandi’s cute daughter was a bit saccharine sweet for me. Brandi herself was not a hugely aspirational character and I felt she should have researched Kindred mating a bit better. I didn’t really feel much of a connection between the two characters.

There's a trigger warning for this, the hero has memories of being sexually assaulted by a former master. He and the heroine meet when she tricks him into sex. He forgives her because he cam empathize with her loneliness. Her daughter also helps. Once he realizes she's uncomfortable he tries to date her like a human would instead of forcing her.

The heroine is kind of rude to the guy she tricked into sex. I don't think she apologized for what she did to him. I get why she's annoyed, he's a stranger basically saying they're married, and she had a kid to protect. A relationship she accidentally forced on them. He saves her from her boss but she runs when he shares a memory. A terrifying one that causes the main conflict. Most people would freak seeing that.
Her cousin is a moron who disappears.

I really enjoyed the story about Slade and Brandi. Slade has just escaped from BleakHall Max Security Prison (as seen in the last book) and is looking for some uncomplicated companionship, but he gets more than he bargained for when he mistakenly picks Brandi thinking she is a pairing puppet. Brandi is a single Mom looking for uncomplicated as well. Little do they know how their worlds will be entertained while giving them the loving relationship they have both longed for in their lives. This was a very sweet story that I only wish had been longer. Sometimes the Goddess just knows who belongs together. I like these Kindred tales stories better than the main books for the reason that the plotting is tighter and there are no extra chapters allotted to previous characters that have no role in the current plot.

This book follows a heroine who’s been burned before by an ex-convict, which makes it really interesting to see her learn to trust a kindred with that kind of reputation. I found the plot, straightforward, enjoyable, but not breaking any “wow” barriers that would have propelled it into 4 star territory.

This book does contain characters with realistic emotions, setting Evangeline Anderson’s work apart from the over produced cardboard characters you come across in science fiction romance these days (stories that earn 1 star for that from me).

This book is pretty much what you expect. If you're into fated mates and heavy sexual attraction, this might be just what you want.

I liked the interesting worldbuilding with a mother ship and the kindred, but I would have liked to have known more about what being a hybrid means and seen him in action using the two halves of his genetics . This is my first novel in the world, so maybe that's something discussed earlier in the series.

Brandi and Slade make a fine pair. I really like the term "pairing puppets," but I listened to the audiobook and the overuse of "baby" started to rub my nerves.

A fun novel.

Another winner !!!

As always I enjoy a trip to the Kindred worlds !!
In thus book , Slade is a hybrid Kindred who has busted out of prison.
Once he reaches the Mother ship, he needs to release some 6 year old , " tension " .
So he goes to the puppet house . it is a place where unmated Kindred go to release their " tensions " 😁😁.

Brandi, along with her cousin ,end up at this puppet house for some no strings sex !!
Only thing though....... They don't know about , " Bonding ".....
What follows is a humorous story about two people thinking that what they want is what they are getting.......
And , of course, that is not the case, at ALL !!!
Love these stories about understanding and love......
Can't wait to read more !!

What you would expect?
This was an alien mate romance, but on the less sophisticated side. It seemed like someone made a list of what a poor, curvy, single mom would want to hear, then added some filler and sexy scenes. All the stereotypical bad things that could happen to her did (deadbeat husband divorced & went to jail, drunken mother she is living back with, sexual harassment at job she is desperate for...). The alien mate saves her a few times because he hears her upset through their psychic bond. Some minor typos, a slightly amusing premise, but wasn't as amusing in action ("mistaken identity" of a woman for a cyborg "pleasure puppet").
So, if you are looking for some predictable action with a bit of erotica with a powerful alien who always respects women, this may work for you.
