I think it's a bit misleading that it has found its way to the mystery/thriller section when it is mostly a contemporary with elements (or suggestions) of magical realism. Everything else I was reading took a backseat to this scrumptious tale. I just couldn't stop reading it. It has an addictive quality and the author's skillful writing and magical descriptions pulled me right into the heart of the story. And it does have heart! The mother has so much love for her babies.

In an extraordinary coincidence, I watched the movie, The Changing, a couple of days before I read this novel.
I became completely absorbed in the movie, the ending sending tears streaming down my face.
