I picked this up from a street book vendor in St. Petersburg in late 1994. It was a funny commentary on Russian culture, the way it was changing in the early post-Soviet era and German culture. I remember it made me laugh out loud a few times. Kunin has a way of nailing social commentary while making you laugh.

Still very relevant today, optimistic and funny. I think this story has found an insider, "relatable" way to push the more skeptical readers into reconsidering their feelings on immigration. A few flops here and there, but it tries hard and means good, so I'm still rating it a 5/5.
