Berman oversaw the daily operations in a series of courthouses and specialized divisions, including the Hardcore Gang Division, the Sex Crimes Division, and the Career Criminal Division. He retired in 2002.
He has lectured and trained prosecutors throughout the United States for the National Prosecutors College. His work has been profiled on a number of television shows, including CBS’s Sixty Minutes.
From 2008-2018, he donated his time as a Specialist Volunteer with LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Cold Case Specials Unit, where he actively investigated unsolved homicide cases. He has been honored by the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division as their 2008 Reserve Officer of the Year. In 2003, the United States Secret Service presented him with the Director's Recognition Award.

Riveting!
Berman has a way with words, and he brings stories to life. As a police officer, he has the experience and the knowledge behind the crimes he writes. Berman brings the reader in on the journey of cold cases, and trying to solve what could be the insolvable, especially so many years later. "Cold cases aren’t like the fresh ones. For all we know, whoever did it might have died thirty years ago. Try and stay detached." Sandy Ellison had disappeared in 1970, and now, it's time to find her. This story is well written, and brings the victim and detectives to life. The characters have depth, and from the beginning, the concern for Ellison is there, and she's not just another case. And new partners, Caldwell and Cavaleri, need to work together, to solve these cold cases. It's one of those stories you just hold on to as long as you can, a real-page turner, with Berman a grand storyteller.

Great read
Exciting, drama, sad! About every emotion there is. Mr. Berman please write more!! There was no skipping pages in this book.

I served as a Reserve Detective with LAPD for 17 years. Berman's Strangers Knott is very accurate and real. Great story and I saw a lot of real cases melded into this book.
