What started as the final examination for Leilana in her quest to become a Warlord has become a quest to find her true purpose in life, the life Fate has planned, and it will be nothing like she had envisioned.

The journey of self-discovery has become a journey of trust, comradery, and even romance as Leilana, Solus and Remiel traverse a world where magic can destroy as easily as it can heal. Will their differences become more real, more of a wedge between them as opposed to a strength?

Cranky - The Book Curmudgeon
4.5 Cranky Stars

As with the first book, I am giving this one 4.5 stars due to a tendency to get lost in time. When dealing with a story with wizards, warlords and mage’s, I tend to visualize a fantasy world. The landscape is that of a fantasy world but the author tells us the story is happening in the 1930’s and the clothes, electricity, paper/plastic usage is confusing. But, it is a great story anyway.

Shakyra had me hooked with the first book of this series and this book continued with the same high level of writing and creativity. The characters are well written and leave you wanting to know more about them and their backstories. Shakyra does an excellent job of writing a fantasy that has realistic qualities so embedded in it that it feels like reading a journal. I'd recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading fantasy novels, young adult and older.

I was blown away because this book is an improvement from the first in this series. Disclaimer: read the first one then this one immediately after. There was a lot of death, destruction, love, and plot twists! I highly recommend especially for fantasy lovers of any age.
