Loved this book! Melissa weaves a tale involving dhampirs and witches that keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you root for the characters. The story is action packed and full of emotional depth that draws the reader in and makes them want more. The mythology she creates is unique and complex, adding depth and a vibrancy to the story and characters. The second book can't come soon enough!

Fantastic read from a debut author who might be my new favorite. Excellent characters, magical happenings. Great plot, couldn't put it down.

This book hooks you in the first few chapters and keeps on delivering. Vampires, witches, shifters, pirates--what's not to love. It's got adventures and revenge plots, mystery and a little love. Great world building, well-developed suspense and plot, and a sense of travel that takes the reader with the characters for a ride that's worth the read. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this book! There is great worldbuilding and the magical system is fascinating. I love how it is based on mythology. It really adds depth to the story. We get an immediate sense of the characters and Gray is very likable, despite her struggles with the past and her own abilities. I also loved Valentina's character as well. I hope to see more of these characters and I can't wait to get started on the second book! This is my newest favorite series right now! I am so excited ...more

This book is a debut book, and I see great things ahead for this author. Gray is a very unique character who is full of revenge and wants to get back at the people responsible for her Dhampir status and her three-year sleep. What follows is a wild ride full of action, intrigue, and downright good writing. I did find the beginning just a little confusing as I kept feeling I’d missed something like a prequel or another book as the action started with not much explanation. But, I soon just went ...more

Life prevented my timely review of author Melissa Sercia’s fantastic Blood and Magic, her debut urban-gothic novel. Now that months have passed, I find that not only is she a magnificent writer, but an utterly kind one at that, patient and understanding.

Her genre is one I typically don’t read but I am so glad I did! For her novel is a winner, compelling, beautifully written, with engaging characters and a fully intriguing plot line.

Her protagonist is Gray, a 400-year-old

I really enjoyed this book! The author weaves a complex story around the main character, a Dhampir named Gray, who's determined to make those responsible for turning her, her mother included, pay for what they've done. In a love and hate relationship with who she's been forced to become, the author's strong world-building and unique take on mythical creatures created a story I couldn't put down. Face-paced, action-packed, emotional, and interesting, this book has everything a reader can ask for. ...more

This book was interesting. It kept me engaged and the story flowed well. At times it seemed to move to fast but at the same time the overall suspense was great. This is book one and I will definitely read the others. I downloaded a copy of this book on Booksprout...

Blood and Magic is Melissa Sercia’s debut novel. Her main character, Gray (love the name), was forced to become a Dhampir (witch and vampire) against her will, then was placed into a three-year coma by her lover. As a result, she is out for vengeance. The book follows her and her sidekick, Valentina, as they fight the Consortium, a group of evil doers bent on creating hybrid demons. The world building, particularly in the Underworld and the Hall of Secrets. Some of the concepts were interesting. ...more

A Passionate Battle Between Good and Evil

This book is dark. Mischievous. An undercurrent of evil flows through every scene, emotion, and action, and it makes for a very good read.

I’ll admit this is my first paranormal book. Early on, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, as there seemed to be a little too much going on. After having finished it, I realized that this setup was necessary and that my initial concerns were more about my inexperience with the genre than with the story itself.

An intriguing storyline steeped in magic and supernaturals. Gray is dhampir, a vengeful one, looking for answers and revenge. With her fellow dhampir and bff Valentina, they travel the streets of London to the haunts of New Orleans and even to the dangerous depths of Hell for the knowledge they need to overcome the very ones responsible for what is happening. Each will find the other half of themselves, the one to link and bind to, becoming the first ever hybrids. A witch hybrid pair and a wolf ...more

I thought this book was great. Full of action and adventure. I thought Gray was great as a 400 year old Damphir. She was an amazing character in the book. With all the other people revolving around her trying to take the Consilium down, as they want to rule the world. The magical pirate ship was pretty cool too. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what comes!

This was a great read - I started and hated putting it down. Strong badass heroine with lots of personal issues - check. Multiple love interests, past and present - check. Mission: to save the world as she knows it - check. If you like Mercedes Thompson's and Anita Blake's adventures, read this.

Potential unmet.

I had to put the story aside when I was1/3 done. This story could be fierce and awesome. Instead, it's choppy with details not well thought out. The overarching story is great but the author missed the boat on the content needed to complete the story's vision. If I remember, I'll check this author out again in a few years. I'm guessing this is her first or one of her first books and it shows too much for me to enjoy. That said, Sercia imagined something original with incredible
This was the first book I've read by this author and I liked her writing style. Bonus - the book was free at Amazon. I did feel like the characters' stories moved rather quickly considering this is a series not a stand alone. I feel bad marking that down as a type of complaint because more times than not I'm wishing stories would move faster. This time, however, so much took place in this intro that little focus was spent on what I would've thought were major events in the characters' lives. I ...more

I thought this would be more entertaining than it was. I found the characters to be flat and uninteresting, and the story, meh .

Could not be bothered trying anymore in this series.
