From USA Today bestselling author Jillian Dodd comes the sixth book in a sizzling series filled with action and adventure. Fans of The Selection and The Hunger Games will discover a heart-pounding thrill ride of espionage and suspense set in glittering high society.
A single sentence is muttered from the lips of an assassin dangling from a four-story building, “It starts in Montrovia.” That sentence led Black X to send a spy to protect Prince Lorenzo. And that sentence haunts Huntley as she realizes her time is running out.
When athletes from around the world descend on Montrovia for the Olympics, another group is coming together, its years of planning a new world order finally coming to fruition. A disease is released. People start dying. And, with rumors of an impending coup, the country falls into chaos.
Alliances are betrayed. Lives are lost. Loves are challenged. And hearts are turned.
Can Huntley stop what has started, or will Montrovia and the world fall?

She writes fun binge-able romance series with characters her readers fall in love with—from the boy next door in the That Boy series to the daughter of a famous actress in The Keatyn Chronicles to a spy who might save the world in the Spy Girl series. Her newest series include London Prep, a prep school series about a drama filled three-week exchange, and the Sex in the City-ish chick lit series, Kitty Valentine.
She is married to her college sweetheart, adores writing big fat happily ever afters, wears a lot of pink, buys way too many shoes, loves to travel, and is distracted by anything covered in glitter.
In true Jillian fashion she has dropped huge bombs on us and we have to wait for the next installment. If you get angry at cliffhangers then I'd wait this series out because Jillian knows how to leave her readers hanging.
It's a bit difficult to write reviews for these books because there is so much going on with not only the missions but with the personal lives of the characters. I never want to give anything away and that would be inevitable if I wrote more than a few lines.
These are fun books and I love how Jillian dives into the world of money and prestige and digs up secrets no one wants revealed. There is a lot still to figure out with this series and you know I'm here until the end.
I'm so emotional at the end of this story. I can't tell you how much I want to just scream out all of my frustrations. I feel like I was put through the wringer because I want Huntley to succeed in stopping this evil plot as much as the people in the book. But what had me even more upset was the way the people she trusts act so stubbornly and resist her assistance over and over again. These books are so addictive and I just can't wait for the next one to find out what she does to save the world. Because I've got this girl's back even when it seems like no one else does.
*reader's discretion to language* HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!! THAT ENDING!!!! I TOTALLY DIDN'T EXPECT JILLIAN DODD TO DO THAT!!!! WHAT A COMPLETE MIND-FU*K!!!!!! ohmygod.........I'm so completely shocked and filled with adrenaline that I literally left off the bed and jumped around at MIDNIGHT when I finished the book. holy...... that's it. That was the single most SHOCKING moment in ALLL My reader's history. omg.....I think, this series is VERY close to ranking ABOVE Sarah j. Maas in detail and plot.
HOLY.....
now I just CANNOT wait for the last book....I LITERALLLY CANNOT!!!
This series has been a roller coaster of emotions. The Phoenix is so in depth. The beginning is a BAM hit you in the face of information kinda like the end of The Valiant. As the story progressed all I could think about each character and how much I loved them. The way Huntley’s mind works is amazing and how much she feels is greater. So much trust is to be held through the book and on top so many answers to get.
Can one fashion-loving, ninja-moving, socialite and now heartbroken girl save the world?
In this book, Huntley has just experienced the truth bomb of a lifetime along with the most painful grenade to her heart.
As a spy, Huntley was told to have no attachments. After just learning attachments are okay and letting her barriers down, the Queen has squashed her happiness of finally loving Lorenzo and their secret marriage with announcing to the country that Enzo and Lizzy must marry. Add the fact that Lizzy is in love with Daniel, and we have a group of miserable lovers.
So, what do the impulsive lovers do? Daniel puts on a fake engagement to Huntley to get Lizzy back. Makes sense right?
Now, as Huntley explores her fake engagement to Daniel and Enzo and Lizzy go from interview to interview, Huntley learns her family is no longer dead and a crisis is going to emerge at the Montrovia olympics.
People die.
Many people die, actually.
And only one girl can figure out the plot to the madness, but will her feelings get in the way of progress? Can she figure out the plan before it’s too late...
Before more bodies die in the Montrovia hospital?
And more importantly, can she keep the ones she loves from dying and leaving her alone in the world yet again?
Read the book to find out!
God, I snapped my reaction to my friends and I was all over the place by the end of this book.
< “You just called me Dad,” Ares says softly. “Are you disappointed in me?” I ask, tears filling my eyes. “Quite the opposite, sweetheart. Your character impresses me more with each day I know you. I understand why you wouldn't want his son to witness what you had.” > ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Kijk ik wist dat Lorenzo, Daniel of Ari haar hart ging breken, en toch kwam ie hard aan. Wat een hoer. Hij mag ook doodgaan nu hoor💉. Fuck him. Ik vind Ares echt cuteeeee! En dit boek was echt zo verslavend ofzo idk. Ben iig heartbroken door Amanda :(.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ < And I know it's not my training or abilities that will allow me to succeed. It's the love that continues to drive me. >
< Renee leans over and whispers to me, “Honey, with enough money, you can make anything happen in a few weeks.” >
< “All right, I'll interview you. So, tell me, Daniel, when are you getting married?” “After the Olympics,” he says, getting all the food situated on the table the way he wants it. “At the White House, in the Rose Garden, with a rope, and Professor Plum.” “Very funny,” I say, taking a bite of avocado toast. >
< “Men often do crazy things for those they love.” >

This was another amazing installment in this series! I’m so happy we only have to wait four months until the final book. But my mind is going in all different directions for how it’ll end. I’m really not liking some of those directions.
I LOVED Daniel in this book! Gah. He is an amazing character. I hope that he ends with Huntley! I think they are perfect together.
Lorenzo pissed me off a couple times in this book. I don’t know if he’s the man I thought he was. How you deal with situations during stressful times tells a lot about you. If you can’t trust the one person you claim to love then I don’t believe you honestly trust them.
Huntley is just as amazing in this book as the others. I hope she can get over the loss and figure out a way to find a cure. Can she close off her heart and use her skills to figure out how to save the world? Or will her heart take over and cause her to make mistakes?
What the hell???? These cliffhangers are only getting worse!!! So much has happened in this book, and I’m shocked by everything! Now that the echelon have succeeded in their plan to transmitting the disease and kill people through the vaccine, I don’t know how Huntley can save the world anymore. This book was a roller coaster of emotions, from the happiness of Daniel breaking the record, to the warmth of the happy family reunion, to the terror of the disease outbreak, to my heart shredded to pieces from Amanda’s death (which was so incredibly heartbreaking! I now deeply regret my doubts about Amanda’s trustworthiness in the last book), to the ultimate betrayal at the end! How will Huntley possibly deal with all this! I can’t wait to read the final book of the series! I hope Huntley will be badass as usual, and figure out a way to save the world, which dealing with Lorenzo’s double betrayal. I absolutely loath Lorenzo right now, from him not believing and listening to Huntley, to telling her to back off, to Lizzie being pregnant with his heir???! like what the heck? She saved your life so many times and you’re telling her to back off???? and you’re so in love with her but you get another woman pregnant and sacrifice your life for her? He basically committed suicide by using the vaccine despite Huntley’s warning, and I hate him so much that I hope he dies. Why can’t he trust her? He claims he loves and trusts her, but in times of crisis he shoves her away and ignores her. Why??? I really really hate him with a burning passion right now. However, even though Huntley is already hurt and about to break down, his death would be much worse for her, so for her sake I hope he doesn’t die. He does not deserve Huntley at all! He is so hypocritical and such a controlling person! I much rather her deep friendship with Daniel and her father-daughter relationship with Ares than a stupid heart wrenching, hurtful, emotionally abusive romance with Lorenzo. I’m sure Lorenzo will somehow be redeemed and survive, they will reunite with a happy lovey dovey ending, and everyone will be saved, but I just can’t get over his actions in this book. I look forward to reading how Huntley saves everyone, and I absolutely love her character development, but I honestly don’t like Lorenzo and I feel he is manipulating her and that they should most definitely not end up together.

I just LOVE everything about the Spy Girl series. I love the main character Huntley, I love the mysterious plot line and every ounce of suspense that comes with constantly trying to figure out the the end game. It's utterly addicting. The Phoenix dives right into the continuation of Huntley's story and honestly it never slows down. Major plot lines are revealed, character identities are answered and the mystery still continues. It's like solving a puzzle and this book gives you almost all the pieces but in the end it's really just enough to keep you coming back for more.
Huntley's strength and passion continue to amaze me. She has grown so much as a person, not only does she follow her instincts but she hardly every jumps to the wrong conclusion. She is very careful to examine things from all angles before making a decision, but what if even after doing all that she still doesn't see the end game? What if she isn't able to save Montrovia? Part of me wonders if at the end of this mission the real lesson was learning one person alone cannot be responsible for Montrovia's safety but instead it comes from trusting the right people, depending on the people you love and working together? It's just one theory running through my mind as to what we will find in book #7.
Jillian Dodd throws us readers some serious curve balls with The Phoenix. The rumors are all true - yes this book ends on a cliffhanger, yes characters die and yes you will be nervous about book #7 because I have real fears things are going to get even worse for Huntley before this mission is over. This series is awesome, full of interesting characters you will find yourself wanting to live vicariously through and mystery in spades! Thank you Jillian for this guilty pleasure, I for one love it!!
With how The Dauntless ended I knew I had to jump right into reading The Phoenix and see where this series was going to go, especially with everything lining up and more information starting to come into play. With Huntley now having more information, she needs time to wrap her head around it, but time is something she doesn’t have. The Olympics are about to start, and she knows this is when the plans are about to be set in motion.
This series is hard to review since you don’t want to give so much away, but I will say, so much comes to light in this book, and I was blown away with how much went on and how much information we finally found out. I hated seeing some things go down in this book, and my heart broke a few times throughout this story. Watching everything some of these characters had to go through was gut-wrenching and seeing some plans come to fruition was not fun to see, but also seeing Huntley continue to show how strong she is, was absolutely amazing.
The Phoenix was my favorite book in the series so far, but now I’m on to the last book in the series to see how everything plays out and how all of these twists an turns end up. Who will survive, and will anyone really get a HEA or will there be death and and destruction for all? Trust me, this series is one that shouldn’t be missed!
This book in the series was putting the pieces together figuring everything out. There are a lot of surprises and the readers get some answers but Huntley is still in the dark. She is close but not close enough, it is very nerve wracking to know but the characters don't. There are so many great characters that I love but I feel like a roller coaster of emotions and worried to death for my favorite characters . The Phoenix gives us so much depth information that it has to be read slow to make sure nothing is missed. There are a few twists and turns I didn't see coming and man oh man the cliffhanger has my mind swimming with questions. What is next for Huntley and everyone else? Can she save them in time? Or is she too late? Will everyone she loves and care about die and it will be her fault that she didn't save them in time? I am so ready for the next book. One click this series or any Jillian Dodd series. Love her books, she is an amazing writer who hooks you and makes you fall in love and connect with the characters that you feel like your apart of their lives and not the other way around.
JESUS, Jillian Dodd! You just gave me a heart attack! This series. I cant even begin to explain how awesome this series is and how different it is from anything I have read!
Jillian has made her own world, that is so much like this world and SO thought out and crazy! The things she has come up with, the riddles, the puzzles, the clues, the outcomes, I just cant put it into words!! This book pulled together so many questions, but left SO MANY more that need to be answered. I dont event know where to begin...
AND THAT ENDING! SHUT.UP! I cant even begin to describe the emotions and feelings I had when the book ended. There was not one cliffhanger y'all... there was TWO! Two cliffhangers, I cant even!
If you havent read this series yet, you need to pick it up! The series wraps up with the last book coming out later this year!
Jillian Dodd you are pure genius and I love diving into your worlds you build!
>Book Review – The Phoenix >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 6th in the Spy Girl series and ends in a cliffhanger. Yes! Hunter and Lorenzo are still in love. They need to stay fake engaged to others in order for Lorenzo to look settled during the Olympics. Huntley knows something will happen and all of her effort stops a coup. The whole story line based on the pandemic is really scary considering I read this book during a pandemic. Huntley is having trust issues, as is Lorenzo. The stress is starting to break them apart. >Daniel is a surprising good guy. Seeing him in love shows him in a positive light. This book has a lot of sadness as beloved characters die due to the virus. I love how Huntley is so driven to try and help Lorenzo and stop the crazy group of men causing all of these issues. >This book is appropriate for a new adult audience. I am giving this story 5 stars. This series could really be a movie.
...and as Calliope stormed from the room, she suddenly had a weird feeling. "Lee," wake up, she faintly heard her mom say. "You were having a bad dream." There, Jillian Dodd, I finished the story for you. No need to tear us apart anymore! I decided to write the last book for Jillian. It's short and sweet and only 28 words. And its free, right here! So, dont pay attention to the other book she claims she's writing. You all want my version. I'm quite sure of it! Why torture yourselves anymore than she has tortured us already???
I've loved Jillian from the beginning of time. She knows I love her. But. Right now, I dont think I like her. After what she just did to us all?? Nope.
But, seriously, why is the last book not out yet! I'm gonna die waiting!
This one was a slow burner for me. But at about 50% questions started being answered and the paced picked up. By the end...holy.smokes. This book had a "who is it going to be" storyline that leaves you guessing for a while. That comes to a culmination, and then...not one, but TWO cliffhangers that will leave you begging Jillian Dodd for the next book. This is book 6 of a series, so DO NOT read this before you read the first 5. And that sounds like a lot of books to read, but they are all so action packed and fact filled that you will fly through them all. If you like spy thrillers with plenty of romance thrown in, this is the series for you.
I NEEED MORE!! The Spy Girl series is so addicting! It has quickly become one of my favorite series of all time! I anxiously awaited the release of The Phoenix and was absolutely not disappointed! It’s extremely clear that Jillian spends a lot of time researching and paying a ton of attention to detail to make this series so amazing! This book is full of questions, answers, happy feels, sad feels, and even angry feels. HOLY CLIFFHANGER! Heading to preorder The Echelon now. If you aren’t a fan of cliffhangers, this may be a series you want to wait and read until all installments are available. But whatever you do, DO READ THIS SERIES!
So, as much as I want to like these books they still aren't getting better. The dialogue is getting weaker, the characters are barely so-so, and the story line is going on three books too many. When I started this series, I thought there were only three books...and here we are at book six (insert eye roll here). There are so many times I was reading this book and wanted to stop but yet here I am finishing the book just trying to figure out how it all ends...and yet there's still another one. It's alright, a light cheesy read and you have to look over a lot of writing issues and not a lot character development at all, but it's an easyish read.
This book will have you hooked from the beginning to the very last sentence. I could not put it down. It picks up just as the olympics are about to kick off in Montrovia. Huntley reunites with her family and takes to Montrovia for the festivities and to figure out the plan to end the world as we know it. Worldwide pandemic spreads and she is trying to save her man, his country, her fiancé, family and the world. But at what personal cost? It ends with one heck of a cliffhanger and I can not wait for the next book to be released!!
Well, this book kept me on my toes the entire time. At first, the book started off a little slow but it picks up towards the end. There is a twist and turns you won't see coming. I also like that in this book we get to see a different point of view. My favorite point of view was Danial's. I think that it is my favorite because of what he is talking about. This book will pull at you heat strings but also make you frustrated at the same time. The ending is what will get you angry and you will want to throw the book across the room. This book was worth the wait. It is a must read.
I have no words! I began with book one last night, and immediately was hooked! So scrary, and so possible! Bottom line, you want subterfuge, conspiracy, greed, murder and mayhem, let alone true love, you need this series! Edge of your seat riviting, realistic, secretive as only the USA can be, and terrifying!
You will be hooked! Words of warning,. ARGGGGGVHHHHH, THE FINAL BOOK realises JUNE 11!
Ms Dodd, you are killing me here! I hate to wishes my life any shorter than it is, but SIX MORE WEEKS!
I cannot even with this series. It has gotten too ridiculous TBH. I’m so mad at the ending. For ALL the professed love, the back and forth, the push and pull, for Lorenzo to be sooo stupid??? Ughhh. If I were Huntley I’d say screw everyone and save herself. She doesn’t need this crap! Like really!! I’m so pissed right now. I’m going to finish this series because i have one book left but it better be better! I can’t stand immature 20 year olds who play at being in love, getting married and engaged like it was nothing and falling in love in three seconds.

Jillian Dodd has written a series of cliffhanger books about a young spy girl and, of course, romance, intrigue, and mystery. In The Phoenix a new virus infects all the people in a small country where the Olympics are taking place. The virus becomes a pandemic threatening to kill most of the people in the world. I can't wait to read the next, and final, book in the series! This is mimicking in so many ways the pandemic that we are living through right now! Please, start with book 1 in the series Spy Girl... Great read and freaky coincidence!
The Phoenix (Spy Girl #6) was another good read by Jillian Dodd. Black X ent a spy to protect Prince Lorenzo when an assassin said “it starts in Montrovia.” Huntley knows her time is running out in order to find out what will happen. Athletes and spectators are coming to Montrovia for the Olympics. There is a group of people that are looking to release a deadly disease. Huntley will do anything to stop what’s about to happen. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
4.5 Stars! This is such an amazing spy thriller series with lots of romance, and with each installment, so much is revealed and so much happens! Book 6, The Phoenix, leaves us with two major cliffhangers and I absolutely cannot wait to see it all tied together and wrapped up in book 7, The Echelon. I picture the author with a giant whiteboard in her writing room, with tons of boxes and arrows and details all plotted out! Huntley is just plain bad-ass- such a great heroine!
Jillian did it again!!! Another great book. She lulls you into the story gives you a sense of security and then Boom plot twist. As I finish the book and read the last page I scream “WTF” not because it’s a cliff hanger but because I just wasn’t expecting it! My husband literally asked me if everything was ok but it wasn’t ok and I had to reread the last page to make sure I was reading it right. All I have to say is June can’t come soon enough! This series is a must read!
The only part of this book that I dislike is the fact that I have to wait til June to read the final book!
All of Jillian’s books are great, but this one truly has me dying for more. I did not think Jillian could have written a cliff hanger that was more aggressive than the one at the end of book five, yet here I am baffled and wanting more.
Fantastic read for anyone into young adult-romance novels.
