Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? When a vain queen learns that her stepdaughter, Snow White, is the fairest in all the kingdom, she becomes enraged. Can Snow White escape her wrath? Thanks to the help of a huntsman, seven dwarves, and a handsome prince, she may just outwit the evil queen.
Cute illustrations with some two page spreads. I feel like the art style works really well for Snow White. This gives some more descriptions and dialogue than a lot of fairy tales do, but it's still very true to the original.
This was a beautifully-illustrated retelling of a classic fairy tale. I absolutely adored the look for the queen - very Queen Elizabeth I! The pictures were very stylised and a bit quirky, and it was the reason I was drawn to this version to begin with.
The retelling was good. I liked that it included a few darker aspects, and that it didn't overwhelm us with all the dwarfs. One thing I would have liked to see was a meeting between Snow White and the prince earlier on. At the end he mentions he's met her before - I went back looking for it!
The illustrations in this book is very captivating. This was published in 2015 and would be considered traditional literature. I showed this book to my fourth graders and they did not find it very interesting.
The illustrations make these retellings gorgeous. They are to linger over and delight. The actual retellings of the story are okay. Don't expect to find the traditional dwarves like Doc and Happy but rather Young and Wise. My real sticking point is the editing of this book: mistakes were made. Small yet one in particular contradicts the story. Perhaps (hopefully) they will be fixed in the next printing as these are beautiful versions and make great gifts.
