The cinema: A history

Rate this book
This book is designed for anyone interested in the cinema from the occasional filmgoer to those who wish to see films placed in their broad historical context. Here you will find a complete survey of the world of the cinema from the very first moving pictures to the latest developments in film criticism. Throughout the movements discussed are given depth and perspective by relating them to the culture, politics and society in which they evolved. The role of major stars and directors is not neglected, but the book attempts to place their work in a much wider perspective, intended for a proportionately wider readership.
