A treat to read

This is such a sweet and adorable story about a young kangaroos love for sweets (which all kids can relate to!) that goes a little overboard. He learns a very valuable lesson at the end, mixed with a little bit of humor at the end. Short and sweet! Love the illustrations as well!

What happens if you eat too many sweets? Kids will love seeing if they can think of all the sweet treats that Cami sneaks in this story. Will Cami ever learn?

My daughters and I liked this book. Both of my kids have been known to sneak treats from time to time, so we could totally relate to the story line. I used to find empty candy wrappers that the kids would hide in their backpacks from school, so I knew early on to educate my kids about cavities. This book would be great for all kids to teach them that it's not a good idea to sneak sweets and doing so could lead to cavities. Since it's a children's book, it was a pretty short story, but it would have been nice to see a few other health concerns mentioned with eating too many sweets to educate children on healthy eating with alternative snacks besides always eating sweets. The family was sitting down for a healthy meal in the end, so that was nice to see. Both of my daughters said 5 stars for the book.
I found this book when it was available for a free download and I am voluntarily sharing our review to let other parents know about this great book for kids. It would be perfect for summer reading since kids are out of school with more time on their hands and probably looking for more snacks!

Cute but incomplete

What troubles me about this book, as it seems to be trying to convey a lesson to children, is what is left out. Cami sneaks into many different places in the house and takes treats, but her parents show no indication that they are aware treats are missing. Then when she goes to the dentist, she has four cavities, but nothing is said about her needing fillings.

This story felt unfinished to me. I get the overall idea that the book was going for, kids and parents should be mindful of what they (the kids) are eating.

But I feel like this was missing context, and that some of the actions (like locking up the refrigerator) could cause questions/issues for kids around food.

*I downloaded this when it was free on Amazon.*

I loved this story very much. It holds good moral for both, parents and kids. Teaches a lot. I loved the cute illustration very much. This book is best for parents who are struggling to make their kids say no to treats. Loved it overall.

Cami has a real sweet tooth. Every time her mother is busy with her brother, Wyatt, Cami sneaks off to find a sweet snack. She raids the freezer, the refrigerator, the pantry, and all the family’s secret hiding places for treats. Cami’s mother cautions her that her dental appointment is not far off.

When that day arrives, Cami finds out that she has four cavities. Her mom decides that the whole family eats too many sweets and they all must change their habits and eat healthy foods. This book contains an important message for families to share. It ends rather abruptly, but this is the first book in a new series. Recommended especially for children ages three through seven.

We received this lovely book complimentary for our review and activity time.

This book is a really cute and sweet way to teach a lesson about dental health. Cami just can't stop sneaking treats, and when she goes to her dentist appointment she learns why eating healthy and taking care of your teeth is so important.

My son enjoys this book and keeps asking me to read it to him. He's 3 and has a sweet tooth of his own. He enjoys the beautiful illustrations and colorful pages. I'm hoping the lesson about sneaking treats and dental health is sinking in. At least he's good about letting us brush his teeth since we made a song game out of it.

Cami was very sneaky. She got cavities from eating too many sweets. She went to the dentist and picked out a new toothbrush. I think I would be scared to do what Cami did, sneaking when her parents told her not to. I kept saying "OOOO chil'" when she was sneaking treats. I will have fun reading more about Cami.

This is my granddaughter Laila's review of the book. I personally thought it was a cute and fun way to make kids aware of what happens when you eat too many treats! It was fun and easy for her to read at age 6, I didn't have to help too much.

Cami Kangaroo Has Too Many Sweets by Stacy C. Bauer
Colorful children's story, sometimes hard to read the dark letters on a dark background. Lettering is also very small.
Parents have to talk to Cami because she is sneaking treats and they try to explain to her why she shouldn't be doing that....
She tries different things to make her think of other things. Love the gift the dentist gives her...

Perfectly sweet

Camille is an endearing little kangaroo with a sweet tooth she cant seem to squelch. But she learns her lesson when the sweets lead to unfortunate consequences.

The prose is inviting. The language clear. And Rebecca's beautiful illustrations are rich with life. This collaboration is a perfect match.

Thanks for this cute story with a calm parent who chastises without negativity.

I read this book to my daughter during a recent visit. My daughter liked it, and asked a lot of questions about what happens when you eat too many sweets and what it is like going to the dentist and getting cavities.

The story was OK. A caution tale regarding eating too many sweets and lying to parents. The illustrations are decent, the writing is fun to read. I wouldn't count this as being your child's favorite book, though it seems the series does have a following.

Delightful, Clever, and Relevant

This is such a realistic plot about moderation and dental health. Any young reader can also easily relate to Cami. My little girl thinks she is sooo cool! The message is clear and delivered in a fun comical way. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and clever and I love the expressions of the characters. Definitely recommend this book!

2018. Fantasy picture book. Cami Kangaroo loves sweets and has a hard time listening to her mom when she says "No". Cami learns her lesson at the end, and feels much better for it. Great story for littles! This would be an awesome read aloud for k-2nd grade.

Sweet read

Having trouble with a Cookie Monster at your house? I think everyone has a sweet tooth, and this cute story demonstrates why one should not sneak so many treats. Fantastic illustrations!

This would be a great book for dentists to have in their waiting room!

Great pictures and good message.

My seven-year-old enjoyed this story and gave it four stars. She especially liked the picture of the mom and dentist looking down at Cami in the chair.

Cute story with a relatable lesson

We’ve all been there as parents and as children. This book is very relatable on the power of sweets and the importance of not sneaking them AND communicating with parents.

Cute

This is cute, what the kids got out of it was more than eating less sweets but also to not sneak around, they kept reminding me that they do not sneak around without asking first.

Interesting

Kids get everywhere just like cats, they eat what they are not supposed to but it was nice seeing that the book did not just focus on the child but also the family. Still irks me she didn’t get pain with her cavities.

I would only read this to children who already sneak candy and know every trick in the book, otherwise I’m afraid it will make sneaking food worse since it lists more ideas on where to find hidden candy and reward yourself for ignoring food limits.

Started off strong, but the storytelling doesn't flow well. My daughter still loved the book but I had to adlib a bit.
