The world seems a bit colder when your own mother doesn't love you. Preston is the only child being raised by a mother who despises him. She verbally abused him every chance she got, lowering his self esteem with each insult hurled. He's much softer than most boys, and desires to be pretty. His dainty characteristics grabs the attention of his best friend's father Paul, who falls deeply in love with teenage Preston. While using Paul's lust to his advantage Preston finds himself in a dark world of depression, anxiety and trouble.
Storyline kept me reading as my heart went out to Preston and the situations he had no control. He experienced horrific treatment from the adults he trusted. His mother was the worse. The ending was sufficient as several paid for their crimes. I was glad to read there were positive people who assisted him. Good read
Rosalind did it again! I finished this within a couple of hours and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so much drama that went on and I felt so bad for Taboo. The ending was great and I really recommend this book by Rosalind as well.
This story had me feeling super sad. Preston/Taboo went thru some things in this story. This was my first read from this author but she definitely captured my attention with this Novella.
I really enjoyed this Novella I felt bad for Preston aka Taboo because growing up he/she went through so much and when he/she thought he/she thought found someone that cared turns out the person was a manipulator and a pimp. Taboo mother was a piece of work I wanted to call child protective services on her she didn’t deserve a child. If people have an open mind I recommend this book to them.
Wow!!! I cant believe that Preston mom was prostituting him out and he didnt known about it... then on top of that Lauren was working with Preston's mom... but they got what they deserved
This story was engaging, heart-wrenching and educational. The Author did such a good job of painting the picture of Preston's circumstances that you felt you were watching some lifetime movie. It can be hard to fully develop characters and offer a full story that doesn't leave the reader feeling short-changed, but this Author did it....AGAIN! She paints a vivid picture of a child trying to survive in a situation, not of his making. The pain and the struggle to find his freedom is felt with every turn of the page. You also get a little education on the signs of predatory behavior and how easily someone who is unloved and unknowing can fall prey to the manipulations of a skilled and practiced predator. I enjoyed this completely.
This book could’ve had some better editing but, aside from that it was pretty good. I enjoyed it. I felt bad for Preston. Everyone he trusted and felt loved him only abused and used him. Lauren’a sudden personality change was shocking. I didn’t expect that from him. Karma was a God send for Taboo. She was the only genuine person that was in Taboo’s life. I was proud that Taboo finally got back on the right track and free from those who didn’t mean her any good. It was a good end to a sad story.
No idea if it's the book or me, but it was all over the place. Perhaps it's the writing style. Preston kept doing things that went against logic and just generally making everything worse for himself. While his need for validation is based on a bad childhood and abuse, I had expected him to smarten up after a while.
It kept me interested enough to see where it would end.
