If it’s fate, it must be love.

Three coincidental meetings with a handsome stranger convince Charlotte their relationship could be fate—but coincidence and love are two very different things.

Charlotte has floated along in life, averse to romance, buoyed by her parents’ dreams, haunted by her traumatic past. She confuses complacency with happiness in all aspe

Where do I begin?

This book was INCREDIBLE! It's hard to believe that this is S. Massery's first novel.

I was hooked from the very first page. Charlotte is an extremely relatable character who I was immediately rooting for on her life journey. As her relationship with Avery developed, I couldn't help but think back to that one relationship we all have that was comfortable. Was it a great passionate storybook romance? Probably not, but it worked. It worked for us & it worked for Ch

Charlotte avoids romance like the plague. Anything that can be put into a romance novel is not tolerated--and that includes mysterious men that sweep women off their feet with a single smile. But what is she to do when a handsome man sits down across from her at a coffee shop and does just that? Instead of promising her romance, Avery offers her an adventure she can’t refuse. A spontaneous date leads to a feeling that Charlotte hasn’t fel

Very good debut book. Well written. I liked the plot.
A lot of triggers: abusive relationship, rape.

This book was easily one of the best romance novels I’ve read in my life. It was real, it was raw, it was accessible, and it was realistic! I think so many people can see themselves represented in this book regardless of identity and they can really learn things about what real love looks like.

Massery’s skillful writing includes such nuance when it comes to the scope of human emotion which makes it so easy to relate to these characters. I highly suggest this book for ANYONE who has or wants to

This book! It is so well written, I couldn’t put it down; it is hard to believe this is her debut novel. I fell in love with the characters....their feelings, flaws, everything about them was so relatable.

There were so many times I was thinking how much they reminded me of myself.

One of my favorite quotes was, “It isn’t a competition, Charlie. You’re allowed to not be okay, even if my being not okay happens to be a thousand times worse than yours.”

I’ve been there. I’ve said somethi

It's out! My baby is released to the world!

Charlie would like to say the following about her story:
"It's like someone took a microscope to my life and hit some of my greatest and most cringy moments. I don't know whether to be flattered or highly embarrassed, but I'm leaning toward the latter. Thanks a lot!"

This book was SO good!! I thought it was a little slow in the beginning but definitely picked up in the middle. I would say the writing style made the book seem longer than it was but it also helped suck me in to the depth of the feelings the book had to offer. I would definitely recommend this for readers who like an in-depth look at how to get your life back on track after a horrible experience.

One heck of a book hangover. From the first page to the last the well written suspense filled read plays with your emotions and leaves pieces of itself bound to your heart long after every word has been read. A gripping must read that is definitely something special and incredibly hard to forget.

I absolutely loved Something Special from page 1. Its a story about a young woman's journey through abuse and heartache and how she gets to the other side and finds that the love of her life has always been right in front of her.
Ms Massery does a wonderful job telling her story completely from Charlie's POV. She takes the readers on an incredible journey with Charlie. The story goes back and forth between the present day and her past so we see Charlie's story from the beginning. We also get to

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

4.5**** from me!

I’m actually shocked this is Sara Massery’s first Book! It truly was amazing, so in-depth! I absouletly loved it, and makes you feel so many emotions. I was so hooked from the first page and interested to find out what happened next. The characters were brilliant and so relatable! The writing was perfect, especially for a first time Author. And I was so happy with how everything worked out. Would love a book on Aver

This is Sara’s debut book an wow did she absolutely blow me away! This is a book with triggers but please do not let it change your mind about reading. I was so drawn into Charlie’s character I could not put this down. I will say I am the victim of sexual assault and for years would not read anything that had rape/assault the storyline. This was written so well that there was no way I could not continue to read it. Thank you Sara for an amazing debut. And I’m so excited to see what else you can ...more

2.5 I found the characters to be immature, and I wasn’t really sure I felt the connection between any/all of them. It was like the deeper emotion between them was just barely out of reach. The only character I really enjoyed was Jared. The story, however, I think had merit, and I did want to read to the end to see how it turned out.

3.5 stars!

I’ve got to confess I went into this book blind. I loved the cover and so I requested an ARC. I usually don’t do this. I like to at least read the blurb, but I had a feeling about this one so I decided to take a chance.
Because of that, I didn’t realize there would be sort of a love triangule/rectangule. For more than half of the story, we experience the ups and downs of the relationship between Charlotte (Charlie for friends) and Avery. So I thought this were our main

There are so many things about this book that I enjoyed. It made me feel strong emotions towards the characters. Some that I rooted for and others I wanted to throttle. It gives you a good sense of how we become the people we are. Our younger years can be very challenging. We're all a product of our past and we can choose to be defined by that or create a new path. It's a journey of self-discovery.

Sara's writing style flows very smoothly and her wording is lovely and well structured.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

The title and description of this book sounded intriguing to me and within the first 2 chapters I was captured.
There were moments in the book where I didn't want to put it down and other times where I felt like I needed to put it down for a break . For me it wasn't so much about the explicit scenes but more or less the frustration I felt towards the main character , Charlotte. But it was also a testament to just how involved I

I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it was not what I would consider a typical romance as the the relationship between our 'hero' and 'heroine' didn't come until the end of the book. The whole story worked for this book and made it an entertaining read. This story was told from Charlotte's perspective and it was good to have the flashes of time to help the reader understand more about the characters and their train of thought throughout the book. The characters in this book are so easy t ...more

This is a new author to me, and I wasn’t really sure what to expect from her. I really enjoyed reading this story, it’s told from Charlotte’s point of view and covers quite a number of years. There are a number of dark times in her life and she struggles with her emotions and being able to define what she really feels and what love really is and feels like. It’s an emotionally charged story and the author does a wonderful job with the use of descriptive writing to really hold my attention and sh ...more

Something Special by S Massery is an amazing work of art

This book will be one that will be on my mind for a long time. It’s not a typical romance in that it does not follow traditional tropes. The main character,Charlie, relates the story in first person. Growing up and finding ourselves is painful in many ways. Charlie suffered through so much adversity. The book is so beautifully written and captures each character where they are unique. I enjoyed the progression of Charlie’s life and ho

Be still my beating heart. I love a good romance which is exactly what I got!
I did actually think it would be Avery at the start but not with that rancid breath!
Loved this story & the characters, especially Jared, this is not the typical romance road, there are bumps along the way, I do feel there could have been more drama/feeling around the limb maybe?
But loved Charlie & thoroughly loved reading this book.

Touching story

This is an amazing story about overcoming life's obstacles and finding true love and happiness. Charlie has pretty much settled with an okay life. After a rough past she was fine with things not being good as long as they weren't bad anymore. Until her childhood best friend returns to her life. She starts reevaluating herself, her life, and finally starts to truly heal. Absolutely beautiful and encouraging.

I originally started this series in the middle where we know what happens with Charlotte. I really loved going back and seeing how she got to the person she becomes. Chance encounters are something that are only suppose to happen once. But she meets Avery three times over the years. The first and second time it left her gutted. Will the third chance be the charm?

I am definatly ready to read more by S. Massery in the future. I know she has released other books and I can't wait to dive

She is unsure what is as she has suffered badly in the past. She meets him and he shows her a different way but is it? does she need to take a srep.away from her comfort zone to really live? See if she will

New Adult Book Club: #106/18 ~ Something Special by S Massery 32 62 Jan 17, 2019 09:18PM
S. Massery is many things, and boring is not one of them. She strives to always keep busy, whether that be fostering dogs, editing websites, writing, or reading. She and her dog, Alice, frequently travel New England in search of prose-worthy scenery and hiking spots.

S. Massery grew up in Western Massachusetts. She received her Bachelors from Emmanuel College in Boston and has finally p
