Evolution is a model, hypothesis, idea, belief, or a worldview - it is not a theory, a law, a fact, or the truth. God's Word is the truth. Darwinian evolution as an explanation for human origins is a philosophy that raises its fist at God, but ultimately fails scientifically. A powerful team of credentialed scientists, researchers, and Biblical apologists take on the pillars of evolution in Glass Shattering the Myth of Evolution . The truths they reveal decimate Darwin's beliefs using a Biblical and logical approach to evidence. In our culture, atheists and many Christians have been deceived into believing evolution is a solid foundation. Glass House answers evolutionary claims, puts them to the test and demonstrates how they shatter. Written for laymen, Glass House addresses the origin of life, natural selection, mutations, missing links, the religious nature of evolution, and many more evolutionary myths. Ken Ham (CEO and founder), Bodie Hodge (author and researcher) and the team of scientists at Answers in Genesis offer you a fresh look at the major arguments currently put forward to support molecules-to-man evolution. This cutting-edge book dismantles evolution argument by argument and is written at a level even a teen can understand.
Dr. Ken Ham is the president of Answers in Genesis USA and is a well-known speaker and author on the subject of Young-Earth Creationism. He received a bachelor degree in applied science (emphasis on environmental biology) from the Queensland Institute of Technology, and a Diploma of Education from the University of Queensland. He has also received two honorary doctorates: a Doctor of Divinity from Temple Baptist College, and a Doctor of Literature from Baptist Liberty University.
He was a director of Creation Science Foundation (CSF) in Australia, an organization which he jointly founded with John Mackay. In 1987 he moved to the United States, still maintaining his links with CSF.
From 1987 to 1993, Ham worked for the Institute for Creation Research, and in 1994 set up what in 1995 became Answers in Genesis (AiG), a creation ministry dedicated to "upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse."
In 2008 Ham was described by well known atheist and evolutionary biologist PZ Myers as a "Wackaloon" for carrying out a prayer session with members of the Pentagon. Ham responded regarding the validity of that prayer breakfastand that PZ Myers and other critics were intolerant of his position.
This book delivers on it's title very well.....Darwinian evolution is not this impenetrable fortress we are led to believe it is. Oh it's towering, intimidating in appearance, cast a large shadow and the guards at the tower constantly bark, ridicule, and threaten anyone who gets near it. But when you venture a little closer you see the fortress is made of glass, ever sensitive to the attacks of reasonable questioning, and cracks even when the tiniest dagger (question) is thrown at it.
The strength of this book is that it shows that Darwin's theory cannot withstand the weight of scientific criticism. Or really philosophical questioning. That it is truly more about narrative than actual evidence in the present or fossil record. That the "war" between science and religion is really made up only in the minds of those committed to the philosophy of naturalism. Christianity has by and large been an ally to science and discovery.
I genuinely enjoy the historical aspect of this book. Essentially that naturalist, with anti-Biblical presuppositions deeply imbedded in their minds, went out into the world and found exactly what they agreed with already. Often manipulating evidence to keep the evolutionary narrative alive. We literally allow tactics in evolutionary theory that we'd allow nowhere else in our lives. Hey kids finches adapt in beak sizes (observable), and then we essentially see that as justification to teach that rodents can turn into whales and apes into man. (bait and switch, non-observable) Fact is finches remain finches, and reproduce...….finches.
A lot of topics are covered in this book. But the majority of content is presented in a way that lay people can understand very well without compromising the integrity of the point being made. So I recommend it. I think all in all you can walk away from this book having more confidence in the Bible's account of origins vs. what the world really really really wants us to believe.
I think the book will also show you just how incoherent the Bible becomes when we try to fuse Darwinian ideas into the Genesis account. Hey we're all sinners, but the first sinners really didn't exist and there was no historic fall, we came from ape like creatures, but accept Jesus as Lord he died for your sins! (the list could go on)
Think of how much the Bible has been attacked in the west in the last 200 years. I mean atheist have targeted their biggest weapons at it, with brutal attack, intellectually foaming at the mouth, with hearts full of rage and when the dust settles the Bible stands. Agree or disagree with it's content but its simply remarkable if you ask me, and stands in stark contrast to evolutionary theory. You take even a sling shot to it and it begins to crack. That's if you're honest.
This a great book to start questioning evolution and realizing how important Biblical authority is. For the believer they'll see the gospel doesn't start with the wonderful books of John or Romans, but in Genesis. For the unbeliever it might lead them towards really good questions which can be a very tangible bridge to a saving faith in Christ.
This was an excellently book written by 16 different scientists and authors with a wide degree of study. This past school year I have been taking Apologia's Biology course, and I started reading Glass House because I discovered it soon after I had finished the module on the scientific problems with evolution, and I wanted to dive into that subject a bit more. This book was an excellent continuation to my Biology course, especially after reading the first half of the textbook. Glass House was detailed and scientific, but not too difficult for me to understand. I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially one who is taking a Creationist Biology course.
As someone who was taught Darwininan evolution in high school (not taught creationist models either), I had my doubts, and cast them on the teacher.
If Creation science is flawed, Darwinian is no less flawed.
Therefore, schools should be allowed to teach evolution not as some set of hard facts, but a series of ideas that may be endlessly proveable or not provable, but clearly it should not be taught without as many ideas challenging it as supporting it, taking it off its grand pedestal of Truth.
While I understand that Biblical science cant be taught in schools because its not provable, neither is macro-evolution. Micro-evolution is not a problem.
In fact, the beauty of science is always be willing to accept you are wrong...which flies in the face of lots of scientific fields today that are 100% sure of their theories.
The various authors emphasize that evolution is a religion--the religion of humanism, naturalism, and atheism--and that evolution is that religion's attempt to find an origin for the universe without God. The various sections cover the basics of evolution, science, and religion; the history and assumptions of an evolutionary worldview; the origin of life, natural selection, mutations, missing links, genetics, and anatomy; and the implications of an evolutionary worldview (i.e., Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, abortion, and so forth). Contributors include Ken Ham, Bodie Hodge, Dr. Jennifer Hall Rivera, Troy Lacey, Dr. Terry Mortenson; Roger Patterson; Dr. Tommy Mitchell, Dr. Alan White, Dr. Georgia Purdom, Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell, Dr. David Menton, Dr. David A. DeWitt, and Avery Foley. An excellent presentation of all the facts.
Even as a theist I find many of these arguments to be rather poor. They tend to argue from their conclusion then allegedly prove their premise through that conclusion which they have already established is true. There are a few good arguments but you can find those in other apologetics books. Otherwise this is a very painful read intellectually in my humble opinion.
If I were an atheist I would indeed laugh at the theist position after reading this because even I found myself chuckling. I don't believe Ham and Hodges or any of their co-authors successfully "shattered" anything.
Reading this book further strengthens my trust in the Biblical account of the Creation. When anyone begins to consider the unbelievable intricacy of life, and the billions of processes that make it possible, it has to be impossible that it all came about by chance. Excellent book. Christian parents would be wise to read this book to give their children answers to the evolutionary dogma they're taught in government schools.
Phenomenal compilation that lives up to the title = Shattering the Myth of Evolution. Numerous scientists from various branches of study come together to show how the myth of evolution is actually easy to debunk in light of God's Perfect Word and observable science. I enjoy how they each come from a different angle to show how various pieces of evolution are inconsistent, assumptive, and just plain wrong.
Glass House goes over the myth of evolution, explaining points of false information and providing evidence that even with enough time, evolution could not have happened. It's also shows how some of the well know authors of evolutionary ideas, actually just made up evidence, some of which is still being used in schools today.
This assembly of creation essays covers numerous topics from biological evolution to natural selection to dinosaurs. Some parts are technical and not readily accessible to the average reader, but still helpful in making the those seeking to understand the issues aware.
Evolution versus Christianity! I never understood why people are fine with professing that they believe Jesus rose from the dead, but then when the matter of the earth’s creation comes up, it just can’t be creation. And then you have to ask these so called Christians: when is the Bible fact or fiction? Followers of Christ believe in the veracity and truth of all of God’s word. This book defends that position in taking an accurate look at origins. Christians are not anti-science they just know that the final authority on all matters must be seen through the lens of scripture. Highly recommended
