I imagine that this is a powerhouse of a play onstage with the right company.
Reading it, though, feels a bit like reading a musical - the musical is so integral to the story. There's also the fact that this book, written about two Black, possibly queer, women from the early 20th century, is written by a white man, gives me pause. But I don't know.
