An excellent brief overview of the opening campaign of the US-Mexican War. Carney lays out the strategic situation, the organization and leadership of the opposing forces, and narrates the battles well. His brief analysis section wraps up the work by explaining the battles' broader relevance. A fast, worthwhile read.
