Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. America’s most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, she’s been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman’s clumsiness. As a closeted actress, that’s the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, l ...more

4.5 Stars. This was just the book I needed. There is a reason Winter is one of my favorite authors of the last few years. The quality story after story she puts out is really impressive. While I do admit this was not my favorite of hers, it was still damn good. After my mini reading slump, this story made me feel good about reading again.

This book hits two storylines I love, Hollywood and a fauxmance. Some people also claimed the storyline of an ice queen in the character of Bess, but I have to

For any reader who loves a good story or combine with a peek at some of the incredible experiences from a behind-the-scenes perspective and storyline tidbits that give a look into the filmmaking process,'BREAKING CHARACTER' has lots of it. Fro
5 stars.

Absolutely wonderful read in every sense. Amazing characters, lovely story, great supporting cast. All of that delivered through engaging and expertly written prose. This book is definitely in my top 5 of near 300 books I've read this year. Do yourself a service and get the book right now. Lesfic romance does not get any better than this.
Perfection! A fabulous 5 star read!!!

Nobody writes an ice queen like Lee Winter. She truly is the queen of the ice queen. She builds up their walls, fortifies their heart and brings in the perfect lady to thaw all that ice. I live for her writing. Over the past few months I have hit a major wall with reading, nothing really piqued my interest and the books you thought would be knockouts were just meh. Happens right? Well, I am so glad I picked this one up because I don’t care how big your funk

Whelp, I'm officially upset that I'm done reading this book. For me, give me a great ice queen character or a fauxmance as a theme, and I'm immediately interested in the book. With Breaking Character, readers don't just get one, but we get BOTH themes in the same novel, topped off with the fact that Winter is a top tier author! I was shamelessly 100% invested the moment I saw the blurb, and this book completely lived up to my expectations.

I absolutely adored both of the MCs, and completely belie
Winter’s writing really just works for me. I get completely involved with the characters and totally drawn in to the story. She’s taken a fairly common trope and made it more complex and different. The difference is not only the story line but also in the array of characters who all seem to take on a life of their own. Even the characters being played by the characters are tangible. The connection between her main characters is built and sustained even when it becomes almost too painful to conti ...more

I've never been disappointed by a Lee Winter book, but this one could be my favorite one yet. This was a great story, and I read it in practically one sitting. Age gap & a fake relationship. I'm in!

I had second thoughts about picking up this book. It featured not one but two of my least favorite subjects-- actresses and fake girlfriends. The former because they're probably shallow and the latter because of the contrivance that's often involved. What's more, unless one has only just discovered the wonderful world of lesfic, these storylines have been done to death already by almost every other lesfic writer, especially in the last couple of years. But... It's a Lee Winter. And there's an ic ...more

I have really mixed feelings about this book and don't know if I'll be able to put it into words. The story is excellent, with a British actress, Elizabeth, who has gone from reciting Shakespeare in London to starring in a television series shot in Hollywood. When the situation in the series can't be more tense and stressful for her, Summer appears to bring an unexpected turn in the series and in her life. Summer is a woman who is not what she seems. She is an actress who starred in a successful ...more

I am in the minority on this one, so obviously, this is merely one opinion.

I have adored every Winter book I have read to-date, so leaving this review is almost painful. I usually get to jump up and down and fawn over her characters and praise her writing and storytelling. I wish I had the same opportunity here.

I felt as though “Breaking Character” could have been written by any well-known lesfic author who continuously uses the same formula. Put Winter’s name on it, however, and it doesn’t fee

This year is starting to look promising regarding my book choosing skill! The few I've read has all been fantastic, but I get the feeling that this one is going to be one of the best books I read this year.

"And Playing the role of Myself" is one of my favourites. So, I was excited to read this one. And well, Lee Winter definitely nailed it. Elizabeth who has an Ice queen reputation(but actually is a very sweet and lovely person) meets Summer who look young and is loved by everyone(who has a litt

Lee Winter is a genius .. you can’t go wrong with any of her books! While this isn’t her best, it’s still a lovely romance ..
Believe it or not but when I saw Breaking Character by Lee Winter, I immediately added it onto my tbr and pre ordered it . Couldn't be bothered with the blurb, just a book by Ms.Winter, that was it. When the book came out, reading the beautiful reviews, then only I realized what it was about - Hollywood and Faked Relationship.

Ms.Winter's wisdom continue to shine through Breaking Character, she wasn't a lazy / OTT author. Every single idea planted in the story received great care, the way she in

While there are so many reviews written about this book I’m going to keep this short.
For me Lee Winter is an author I don’t really need reading the blurb before I buy it, so far they were always absolutely enjoying and well written. Breaking Character was no exception.
I loved the storyline, even though it isn’t a new one. It’s fantastic how this author creates all the different characters, not only the MCs, also the secondary characters.

Bess and Summer are both loveable women and I wanted them
I stayed up until 3AM reading this. It is so well written that hour after hour went by in a blink. This is definitely one of my favorite books this year, and probably my favorite Lee Winter book. The humor in the early chapters had me laughing out loud.

I wanted quality so I picked a Lee Winter, without checking reviews or blurbs. I had only the cover as clue so I knew it was about stars or celebrities.

And damn ! I had swear I would try to avoid the fake relationship trope till the end of the year, and when the shoe dropped around 33 percent, I was already hooked. So here goes my end of year resolution ... But it was worth it.

So worth it that I have already started rereading it and will add more about my impression later !

When famous British actress Elizabeth Thornton shares the set with American former child prodigy Summer Hayes, a series of random accidents made the press portray them as girlfriends. The mistake escalates when a French director offers the pair a career changing role assuming that they can act on set the intimacy they share as a couple. How hard could it be to fake a relationship for a while?

Lee Winter knows how to write a story about older ice queens and inexperienced younger women who idolise
I have seen a lot of great reviews regarding this book, therefore I was curious about it. This is the first book by Lee that I have read and I can truthfully say that it was absolutely amazing. The chemistry between Bess and Summer is evident from the start. This book was well-written. It made my feel so many emotions, I found myself laughing, sad, angry, smiling and being giddy. Every part of the book was well-written from the beginning, the end, the love story, the plot, the sex scenes. Everyt ...more
Could have been so much sexier, that was very long winded, I hate it when authors draw the inevitable out too much, sometimes it works but in this instance it became annoying for me, I love an ice queen and Elizabeth was no exception and summer I really liked too, this was quite angsty and long but I did enjoy it and it did hold my interest alot although it pissed me off being so drawn out this definitely deserves a solid 3 stars, good writing but was all that drawn-outness worth the wait, “nah” ...more

Lee Winter does it again!

This time we're introduced Elizabeth, a TV star who has been broken down from two decades of working in the industry, and Summer, a fresh faced girl next door that is as warm as her name. Summer has a bit of secret: she's had a crush on Elizabeth for years, and is excited to costar on a medical drama with her idol. Elizabeth, on the other hand is slightly bemused and disgusted by Summer's attitude. From there barriers will be broken, surprises are to be had and an inten

I was actually saving this for holidays but I can’t seem stop myself from reading, especially I was kind of impatient because the release date was moved I think 2 times? Hmmm. But It’s always worth the wait.

Wow! I loved this book. I already know I’ll be rereading it. Lee Winter is one of my favourite authors but she’s outdone herself with this one.

On the surface, it seems like a by-the-numbers lesbian romance. Fake relationship? Check. Two beautiful protagonists with glamorous careers? Check and check. Ice queen? Check.

Because it’s Lee Winter, though, these familiar tropes are taken and woven into a satisfyingly long, clever and compelling narrative. The story reminds me a little of one of my othe
It has been along while since i read story about actresses or Hollywood. This story is really great. I like how MCs interact with each other, like Summer bring out the different sides of Bess, breaking her wall bit by bit. And their chemistry is great.

I really enjoyed this book. I kept telling myself just one more chapter than i’ll go to sleep and ended up slept only 4 hours than went to work -_- every chapters just kept me going. It was so hard to put it down. There were also some parts that ma

Quite often I let books sit for a while before I review them so I can reflect on them but with Breaking Character, I can't wait. My thoughts are itching to be laid out on paper because this book is all I can think about at the moment. If you've glanced at my other reviews you'll see that I'm a fan of Lee Winter's work but in this novel she has created something truly beautiful. I feel like I've been turned inside out and had my emotions laid bare for all to see. While finishing it means there's ...more

I worship at the alter of Lee Winter.

That being said, a few things annoyed me. Grace, what a bitch.

I would have liked if we saw more about them coming out publicly. I was a little let down with the epilogue.

I have been in a reading funk lately. I started this book at 2AM after waking up and not being able to get back to sleep. 6 hours later… I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t stop. I really wanted coffee and breakfast but the struggle deciding to put down the book to obtain it was hard. This book is so good. I haven’t read a Winter book I haven’t given 5 stars. Dear Lee Winter, I want to thank you first to have changed my entire intern clock, sleeping at 4am wanting desperately to finish your book. I fell in love with The Brutal Truth, being one of my péché mignon. And I wasn't at all dissapointed by this wonderful novel.

Elizabeth and Summer can be seen at opposite. Both are working as actresses and happened to be co-worker on the set of a Drama/Hospital tv show. Summer admires Elizabeth, having seen her Shakespeare play around 15 times, being also an

Welp, where did the day go? I started this book this morning, with the idea of reading maybe just a few chapters before starting the day for real. I would just like to thank whomever that I didn't have any (important) responsibilities today.

I'm a fan of the authors other books, but this one did not have the pull of the others. Perhaps it's because it's the same tropes i.e. ice queen, age gap, fake relationships. It felt a little tired to me.

The story spent too much time on the straight woman crush, which got resolved leaving little time at the end for a happy ending. Did not feel connection between the 2 mcs.

Arc received from ylva for honest review.
