Betrothed To Jack Frost Saga #1

Betrothed to Jack Frost

Rate this book
"Y-you're..." I stuttered, my eyes widening with disbelief. I couldn't find any words to say. Finally, after a long silence, the strange name bubbled in my mouth and spilled past my lips before I could stop it. "Jack Frost," I said, my wide eyes unblinking.
A coy smirk crossed the handsome man's features. The fairy tales I heard of Jack Frost weren't at all accurate; he was no mischievous young boy, and, he was no crusty old man with pointed ears. The young man before me was what one would call beautiful. From his too-pale skin to his snow-white hair, he was the reflection of pure beauty in itself.
With a pale finger, the man created a sculpture of ice to erupt from the palm of his hand. It sparkled and gleamed in the light of the room.
"What gave it away?" The man asked with a strong touch of arrogance.
"Why are you d-doing this...why are you here??"
"Isn't it obvious?" The man smiled wickedly at me. "You're to be my betrothed."

Elle Darrow had never been anything but ordinary.

She grew up believing myths and magic belonged in the land of make-believe and wonder.
Fate works in mysterious ways. Upon being kidnapped and forced to become engaged to a malevolent God, Elle discovers that former individuals she believed to be fairy-tale characters aren't as imaginary as she once thought...
Trapped in a land where Gods & monsters rule, Elle works to return home and outrun millennia of prophecy-dictating fate in the process. But with that comes a very big problem; when you're dealing with powerful Gods and deities, you have to remember not all the characters from myths and legends are the GOOD guys...

This is one of the other books I had read when I used to be a Wattpader. And unfortunately, I also had issues with this one.

The storyline is quite interesting, but the author has no idea of what the word "realistic" means. As far as speaking about mythology, she mixed everything and the gods lacked their cruelty (Apollo dear). Jack Frost was never mentioned in Greek myths. He was a spirit and had some ties with Norse mythology.

The characters had no depth and were bland, and the main protagonist, Elle or whatever her name was, is a total mary-sue. She's fucking annoying.

In terms of "relationship", this book describes a shitty one with Frost trying to kill Elle for dumb reasons. What a good example to set! Two people who love each other, but are awful towards each other and the male protagonist tries to kill his love interest. Yay. Couple goals.

For the writing, I can't remember if it was good or bad, but I did enjoy the story a few years ago when I first read it, so I am just gonna say it was okay. The version I read on Wattpad also had many editing mistakes. Overall, this story was badly executed when it could have been much better.

Also, I find it funny how reading my wattpad review/profile made the author glad Trump had been the new US president. Nice.

That's all. There's nothing more to say because there was nothing more interesting to read.

What a weird ride this book has been for me. I find I am still struggling to put pen to paper after reading this, but I have to give it a go.

So, first of all, I think what really put me off this book really quickly, is that for the first chapter it kind of manages to disguise that this is an annoying YA cliché. Or at least I was fooled. Anyway, I thought this had potential. Elle already had the beginnings of a Mary-Sue, but I remained hopeful. The Greek Gods making an appearance acted like Gods and it was all going fine. But frankly, that only lasted for the first chapter. After that, it went downhill very quickly. And I really don’t know which aspect of the story I am most annoyed with.

Elle: One word: Mary-Sue. That’s probably already enough said, but my hate for Mary-Sue characters runs so deep, I need to vent. Imagine there’s a four-year-old girl alone in her bedroom at night. Suddenly, some guy appears, it’s snowing in her room and she just strikes up a conversation. Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Then said guy basically says that he should kill her and she’s cool as a cucumber about it and is just like “why?”.
I was a bit put off, but I realize that trying to write a child-character is never easy and I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
But then we fast forward and suddenly she is twenty-one. There she is a very weird mixture of different stereotypes. She’s a perpetual victim because the whole “poor me” theme is always required. She’s oh so perfect that Apollo has to fall in love with her. She is told that she is engaged to the heir to the ice throne, she finds out her mother was a Greek Goddess which makes her a demi-god and she’s fine with it all. Because finding out such things is completely normal.

Jack Frost: If I had to summarize him in three words, I’d say: Dumb. Childish. Unbearable. That’s about it. He is a very two-dimensional character that seems to be Benjamin Buttoning throughout the book. The first time he appears, there is something eerie about him. The way he speaks, you are led to believe that he really could be an immortal God with sinister intentions. But then he appears a second time seventeen years later and it’s just pathetic. He is reduced to childish tantrums, name-calling and basically stomping around his castle like a spoiled brat, lying to daddy so Elle can get into trouble.
All those Greek Gods: Here, Gedgaudas really lost the plot. Forget about high school drama, what is portrayed in this book is preschool drama.
I mean, take this exchange between Eros and Apollo. Basically, Apollo is in love with Elle. Why? Because this is a YA novel and that needs a love triangle, ideally with two guys who are polar opposites. Enter Apollo. Eros calls him out on it and let me paraphrase their exchange:
Eros: “Dude, you’re totally in love with Elle.”
Apollo: “Am not!”
Eros: “Are too!”
Apollo *stamps foot angrily, starting an almighty temper tantrum* “Am not!”
-
This is pretty much the entire exchange between the two of them and just as a reminder, the two of them are supposed to be great ancient Greek Gods.
Oh and then when Elle and Voluptas get into a fight, Eros, her father throws his own temper tantrum and orders all the other Gods to come and deal with it. Enter Zeus, THE God of Gods, who says he can’t stay long because he has another meeting. Ehm… come again? He has another meeting? Sure, because that’s what Gods do. In the morning they meet with their henchmen and discuss who should lose their heads, followed by a quick update by their financial advisors before they go on to decide which people shall suffer before it’s off to a power lunch with all their mistresses to see if there’s another God to be jealous of. Then there’s a quick round of jogging around Olympus before it’s time for their lawyers to settle some disputes… I mean COME ON!
But fine, during that meeting Eros throws a temper tantrum because his daughter got hurt. Voluptas throws a temper tantrum because she got bashed in the head with a vase. Elle throws a temper tantrum because no one believes her when she says she’s innocent. Zeus throws a temper tantrum just because… and Jack Frost throws a temper tantrum because, as always, he doesn’t want to marry Elle, and she just called Voluptas his girlfriend in front of everyone, which is totally NOT COOL, Elle!
This to me was the point where I had to stop. I couldn’t take this book anymore. Somehow this story went from eloquent Greek Gods battling it out with the Winter king to ridiculously childish name-calling, bickering and tantrums. According to my Kindle, I was at 52% when I stopped reading, but I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. All this book has to offer are childish characters. That’s the only thing I’ll remember about this book. Storywise, this book was, for the half that I read, a complete dud, because it does not move along. Or maybe it does, but the characters are so beyond ridiculous and annoying that you can’t even focus on any plot development. On a side note, this book also mixed Greek mythology with Norse mythology, which would be completely fine if you'd feel like the author actually did some research into both of them. But to me, it only felt like she used the few Gods she knew, didn't bother to read up on what kind of Gods they actually were and then mixed everything the way she wanted to fit her story.

This was just an allaround bad experience and honestly, I can't recommend this book to anybody.

My absolute favorite book series! I fell in love with it instantly after I first read it on Wattpad, it's a mix of mythologies and fantasy, the perfect escape to a thrilling new world. The storyline is original and well thought through, the characters are amusing, and the second I start reading I'm hooked.

I don't have a whole lot to say about this book so this will be a short review .
This felt very much like a Wattpad book ,especially the dialogue , I feel like most of it could have been better ,had the author used stronger words . I honestly think this book has so much potential though , I'm not saying that she needs to be traditionally published ( I'm all about the indie ) . She honestly just needs a little editorial help a little professional publishing to remove some of the 'cheesy bits' and it would be 100 % better .

I was not a fan of the begining of the book ,the plot moved along slowly ,but once I got past that bit I became interested . I'm not really feeling these characters...except Apollo, what a dude , I'm not shipping him with Evangeline at all he deserves so much better than her .

Content : PG - very mild PG-13
One of the funniest parts in the book to me was when Evangeline ,without realizing it goes into Jack's room ,while she hides he and a woman come in . ( I was disturbed by this next part but also so embarrassed for Evangeline that I was laughing idk why I guess I'm just tired 😂😂) So Jack is talking to the lady and Evangeline sees her dress dropping to the floor ( she can only see thier feet ) and Jack tells her that he's seen it all before many times ,which you heckin' slut , anyways there this part .

Language : PG very mild

I'm in love!

I was lucky enough to find this book on an app called , " wattpad", when she had it up for free, and don't regret my read in the leattest bit!! Everything about it was intriguing for me. from the cover, the description, heck even the writing style!! But my favorite part about it was actually getting the chance to read it, every page is just as thrilling as the next and it's like none I've ever read before! Once you read get prepared to experience a whole lot of twists turns and what the f*!% just happeneds. the author of this book is extremely talented and I think she has a lot more coming for her, and you might just see why once you read it. A definite recommend for anyone of all ages.

I read this book on Wattpad before it got published. To this day, it still remains my favorite Wattpad book. It's one of my favorite plots ever and somehow, even though I know what's going to happen, it still manages to get my heart beating.

Some of the dialogue is a bit childish for someone of twenty-one, but I can ignore it since it doesn't happen every three lines. I do admit I'm a bit biased thanks to the nostalgia factor, but it still slaps as much as it did years ago.

I wanted to like this book. And so I read all of this book and I’m disappointed.

My biggest thing is the way the author made Elle so immature for the age that she is. I am the same age as Elle and frankly I don’t think I would have resorted to the same name calling immaturity that Elle has. It feels like a 5 year old in a 21 year olds body. The way that she handles the situation that she’s all of a sudden thrown into just doesn’t match. And I’m not trying to compare her to me or anything or saying that everyone is at the same maturity level at that age. But the author made it so she seems like she is. She is a 21 year old college student with two jobs to pay for college. That screams maturity. Also she wants to be an English professor, so am I just supposed to suddenly believe the author when she says that Elle has really great grades, but can’t come up with a better nickname than “frosty the snowman”?! It just doesn’t add up.

Just a side note before I give more of my opinions. This is just my opinion on the book, please respect that. Everyone had their own opinions and I’m not trying to discourage others from giving it. It’s just the way I view the book and why I didn’t enjoy it. I respect everyone else’s opinion.

The Gods. Wow what a joke. The Greek Gods are freaking mighty people. They legit have the power to destroy the world and to sum up the way that they act in this book... whiny. Whiny, whiny, whiny, whiny. :) I can’t freaking stand any of them. The Greek Gods are people who play around with other Gods for the fun of it. They legit had wars with each other because they wanted to. And now, nooow, I’m supposed to buy a fucking trial. After Elle hits Eros’ daughter with a fucking lamp and he gets pissed and calls a trial with ZEUS?! Like wtf. No. Stop. Please. This is not how they would fucking act. And it just makes me so upset because if the author had actually done research into the Greek Gods there wouldn’t be this situation. Like I understand spinning them and using them to how you would like, but the fact that they are so whiny just makes it so unbearable. Using the Greek Gods is fine, but to make them and have their characters act this way?? It just blows my mind.

Now Jack Frost’s scenes can be described in one word, tantrum. He’s been alive for 280 something years and he is constantly throwing tantrums. I’m just... wow. I have no other words for this character.

Apollo- whiny
Eros- whiny

Again, this is just my opinion. I respect everyone else’s opinion. I understand that there are going to be a lot of people who don’t agree with me and that’s totally fine.

I didn’t enjoy this book, I don’t recommend it. Don’t bother wasting money on this book or any of the books in this series. I ended up reading a little of book two and couldn’t even get half way through. I was just that done with the way these characters were portrayed.

Read this on wattpad a while back. I’d say it’s one of those rare, popular wattpad stories that actually deserve its popularity. It’ll be worth the read for fans of mythology and romance.

Elle's determined to work hard and become an English professor in honor of her father. He used to tell her all sorts of tales about myths and magic, but it turns out they weren't mere stories. Elle is kidnapped on her twenty-first birthday and told she is destined to marry Jack Frost. She suddenly finds herself in a world of cruel immortals, caught in their fiendish schemes. While she tries to escape and stay alive, she learns the truth about herself and that fate may be tougher to wrestle with than she thought. The biggest problem turns out to be that the only one she can seem to trust is the one she's determined to stay away from.

This was a book I randomly picked up through a promotion, and I'm so happy that I did. It was fun and full of action. I'm a great lover of all sorts of myths, and they mingle very well here. Elle is smart, stubborn, and full of heart. Her life hasn't been an easy one, and that's prepared her for what's to come. All the wonderful gods and goddesses make for a rich cast of characters. The author's take on them is unique, and I especially liked learning more about Jack Frost himself. Be prepared, it ends with a major cliffhanger!

I really loved the concept, I even liked the characters. I just couldn't love the writing. I don't believe this book was ever professionally edited, because there were some details that wouldn't have been overlooked if it had been. Repetition of words and expressions was a very common thing, unfortunately. I also feel like the writer isn't a native english speaker (I say this since I'm not also one). Now, don't get me wrong, the writing wasn't in any way horrendous, it just was a bit to much simplistic to me.

Overall, a pretty solid book, will be reading the next one

I read it on Wattpad earlier this year, and I just got the notification it had been published I had to add it to my good reads to read lit.
it's alright it's not quite greek mythology but is at the same time

I'm partway through the second book on Wattpad at the moment but got a little bored and left it for a bit

I'd suggest it if you want to read a quirky romance type/ greek mythology type novel.

So, I love mythology. I love enemies-to-lovers. And, no matter how many times it’s done, I love the “you’re a wizard, Harry” trope. This book has all three! From chapter one I was hooked, and I’m excited to read the rest of the series!

The only reason this book doesn’t have a higher rating is because the writing was a little too grandiose and wordy in places where it really wasn’t necessary. An editing tune-up could really do this book some good.

Nice start

Elle had a weird childhood to begin with but life got even weirder. She is betrothed to Jack Frost and she is definitely not just human. Jack has tried to kill her. But by the end it gets even more strange. Are they starting to have feelings for each other other than hate? TBC book.

Some people who have never written a book are pretty harsh with their judgements. Their grammar is awful.
This book was written by someone with a knowledge of writers skills and an expanded mind. It took me about two pages to get into the book. I do like books about fictional characters or magical creatures. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, however. I'm about to start reading part two now.
