“There are lines even I cannot and will not cross, and this is one of them.” January, 2001. In the Middle East, the peace process hangs by the slenderest of threads as the violence of an intifada threatens to consume the region. And even as the outgoing US administration makes a final bid to bring the Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table, a rogue Iraqi general transfers a shipment of chemical weapons to terrorists bent on thwarting peace once and for all. Racing to stop the threat, Ariel and the Israeli Mossad reluctantly join forces with the CIA in a desperate effort to cut off the shipment before it reaches its destination. . . A mission which will take them into the night skies above Iraq, and end in a bloody final battle in the desert. The stakes have never been higher. The price of failure. . .more real. And this time, not everyone is going to make it home.

About the author

Stephen England

Stephen England is the author of the bestselling Shadow Warriors thrillers, including Amazon's #1 Bestselling Political Thriller, Pandora's Grave, and its long-awaited sequel, Day of Reckoning--a novel hailed as "the perfect spy thriller for our time--chaotic, cynical, with only a few good men keeping the barbarians from the gate."

Drawing upon nearly a decade of research into the nature of Islam, the Middle East, espionage and counterterrorism operations, England's work has drawn praise for breathing new life into the genre with the hard-edged, unsparing realism of his portrayal of the war on terror, the people who wage it, and the moral and psychological costs exacted of those who take the war to the enemy where he lives. "Soldiers without uniforms. Fighting a war without end. Shadow warriors. . ."

The short stories NIGHTSHADE and TALISMAN round out the Shadow Warriors series, and England's work also includes the stand-alone historical adventure novel, Sword of Neamha.

England delivers a masterpiece! A story about camaraderie, betrayal and sacrifice that will shake you to the core!

The author provided me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

After reading 9 out of Mr. England’s 10 publications, it still amazes me how he is always able to surpass the insurmountable high standards he himself established with his previous work!

The last episode of the Lion of God trilogy is not only the best, it moves the story on a whole new emotional level! Right from the start the pacing is frantic, the stakes couldn’t be higher and when it’s all over, mere survival will be a victory! But at what cost?

Fans of England’s Shadow Warrior series know what they can expect out of his stories: Epic struggles on morally grey ground, vivid and differential characters and – above all – emotional turmoil!

This novella has all of these ingredients and then some! Taking readers on an intense trip to the frontlines of the war on terror and leaving them to ponder its consequences!

Soldiers..the pawns of war.

Sadly, as depicted in this story, our beloved sons & daughters, sacrificed for the bigger picture, or the power & greed of those in the seats of power. Personal agendas & vendettas. War is insanity. War is forever, from the beginning to the end of time. What is the bigger picture... but perspective. Whose perspective? Who really knows?

Once I started reading the first story, I couldn't put my Kindle down until I had finished the whole set. The characters are artfully drawn and you can easily imagine them as flesh and blood ready to reach out to you from the page. Breathless action and heart-stopping tension are delivered in spades. Not for one second relying on the trope of moral equivalence, you are never left wondering "who the real good guys are." Instead you are given a glimpse into the blood-soaked world of the warriors and what they must do to keep us safe.
If any of the above sounds familiar, it's because you've been reading Stephen England, and the same eye for detail that makes his Shadow Warriors series so engaging and fresh is here turned to a much older part of the world. His knowledge of Middle Eastern history and culture shines through these three stories, and while this is nothing new if you have read his other work, it's the unique setting of this trilogy that allows him to examine the subject matter in bold and unique ways.

There were no shots or explosions in pt 2 of the trilogy. I guess that's how you build up a story to a breathtaking ending. I read that in one go and was simply overwhelmed by the events happening.
DO NOT MISS this trilogy set some years before the Shadow Warriors novels
