Coming For What's Mine

You think you know how the game is played. You have no idea…

In my world the Gansta’s on the street are feared. I had no way of knowing that once I accepted a Botany Scholarship at Georgetown University I was going to be unwittingly thrown into the savage biosphere of politics. I’ve come to learn that here in D.C., the politicians are the real gansta’s, and that they are far deadlier than anything we common folk could ever imagine.
However, I would soon find out just how dangerous the political milieu can be. It is a place of glamour, lies, and power. Trust the wrong person, and you can end up dead.
I gave into the Senator’s son one night, allowing him to take what I had never gifted to another. It was the single most amazing thing I would ever experience.
But that one night of unbridled passion would send my life spiraling into uncharted territory. The fruit of which I carried in my womb while fleeing to protect my unborn child…

I knew she was to innocent to be pulled into my world. A world that was more treacherous than a pit of vipers. However, I could no sooner quiet my hunger for her, then I could the roar of an oncoming tornado.
She gave me my taste, and I found my new addiction. But then she fled from me and became my new obsession.
Now, nothing will stop me from, Coming for What’s Mine…

This was a really great book. I honestly didn't think I was going to read it fully because I don't like stories with crazy a$$ alpha males. I am not a fan and I don't buy books that have their men like that. So you can imagine my reaction to Joseph, I was pissed off, cursing him every which way but loose but then the unexpected happen, his true self (regarding Journey came shining through).

Joseph has been groomed from birth to take his father's senatorial seat once he retires and the end goal is to eventually become the President of the United States. Realistically Joseph doesn't want any of that and is making his own plans until he crossed paths with Journey, an intern working in his father's office. One look at her and he was determined to have her but what he didn't realize is she wasn't interested in him. Journey was going to be the first to graduate from college and was currently a student of Georgetown University, she has an older brother who takes care of his family which includes their mom and younger brother. Joseph was not a patient man so he was biding his time until the perfect opportunity presented itself for him to get next to Journey, one night of passion lead to an unplanned pregnancy and Journey fleeing from Washington to return home to the protection of her family.

Journey believed herself to be safe, what she didn't realize was Joseph was hunting her it took him months and when he found her, all hell broke loose. Journey found herself having to trade her freedom to this man to keep her family safe, it was overwhelming and big brother Romeo who always took care of his siblings was not having it, Joseph underestimated Romeo. Joseph discovered that Rome wasn't some fly by night drug dealer, he was a meticulous and astute businessman with an IQ that folks couldn't even touch. Rome would do anything for his family and if that means fighting satan himself, then so be it. As much as Joseph was used to getting his way, he soon realized that Journey's family was extremely close and if he wanted Journey to be with him, he was going to have to change.

The story of Joseph and Journey (and their baby Ayanna) is really a good one, once you get past the brute force that he exhibited towards everyone, you begin to realize that he really loves her. But if Joseph thinks all is going to be well with him going off with Journey and their daughter then he better think again. The powers that have his dad like a puppet on a string it will not be that easy for them to get at Joseph and with the real possibility of Journey and his daughter being in danger, Joseph will have to humble himself and call in her brother who he can't stand but has the ability to help him.

This is my first book by author Edwina Fort and I am very pleased by what I read and I would definitely recommend Joseph and Journey's story. I also see that she will have several more books that will be linked to one another and I am definitely looking forward to the next stories in this series. So now on to book 2 Woot! Woot!

Well Until My Next Review...Ciao Bellas!

Joseph and Journey's beginning👏👏👏

Coming for What's Mine has an amazing storyline and imagery. The characters, villains, friends and family played a part in making this story unbelievable. Everyone learns a lesson in Book 1. Joseph will have to show everyone who he truly is when it comes to Journey. Journey will have to stand, fight, stop running and believe in Joseph. On to Book 2😊

*****Spoilers*****

I enjoyed the unexpected in this book. Journey, a 19 year old secretary working in the political office of a US Senator is being pursued by the senator's son Joseph, a 31 year old on track to become the next president of the United States. Journey is mostly uninterested despite how attractive Joseph is, which drags on for about a year until one night she lets her inhibitions down while drinking during a night out with her friend. Underage drinking here based on age and timeline disclosed in the book but there's no explanation for it. At her friend's invitation, Joseph joins Journey in the drinking and eventually takes her home where they have sex. It's Journey's first time and also the one time in his life that Joseph does not use protection. As the senator's son, he understands the risks but loses himself in Journey. The result is a pregnancy. Due to her body's irregularity when it comes to her cycle and other changes to her body Journey initially dismisses as other things, Journey doesn't realize she's pregnant until she's 6 months along.

While Journey is still in a state of shock at the doctor's diagnosis, and before Journey can track down Joseph to deliver the news, Joseph's mother Alice gets to Journey. This part of the book bordered on the fantastical because how Alice found out about the pregnancy in enough time to track Journey down the same day that Journey learns she's pregnant is baffling and it isn't explained. There are only vague hints about political power and influence. In any case, Alice approaches Journey and tells her that Joseph wants Journey to get an abortion then hands Journey a credit card to get her through 6 months. Here lies a wrinkle because Journey kept the baby, and despite all of the power and influence, for all intents and purposes, it seems like this little fact went unnoticed by Alice. If you have enough power and influence to learn of the pregnancy within hours, if that, the same day that Journey learns of it, I would anticipate that such power and influence extend to knowledge that Journey did not abort the baby. In any case, Journey did return to her family which is where Joseph finds her after looking for months.

For his part, Joseph was disappointed that Journey disappeared after their night together and spent a lot of time trying to find her. He can't seem to get Journey out of his system and has really been obsessed with her since he first saw her at his father's office. Once Joseph does find Journey living with her mom and two brothers, he comes to get her and their child. I can't remember how he knew about the baby but Joseph is former military and still can get down physically in a fight even though he's now with the FBI. Joseph brings his significant resources with him to help handle gathering Journey and their child, conducting a paternity test right on the spot, and providing the whole household with contracts he requires Journey and her family to sign. Journey's contract is for her to serve as Joseph's mistress for one year and her mom's is an NDA. We never learn what the other contracts entail. During Joseph's smash and grab, he and Journey's older brother Romeo, Rome for short, get into a fight with Joseph handing Rome his first loss in a fight. It's during this altercation that we learn that Rome is using his front as a drug dealer to hide his real criminal hacker empire.

Anyway, once Joseph has Journey, he takes her to her dream home with a greenhouse. Journey absolutely loves it because she's into botany and was doing college research before she got involved with Joseph. Now she has a home, Joseph's black card for anything she needs, and time to be a mom. Joseph isn't aware that his mom lied to Journey in an attempt to get Journey to abort their child and in this book, Journey does not enlighten him. However, in the time they're able to spend together, Joseph and Journey build a real relationship and are getting along happily. The twist in this book ends up being Joseph's fiance that he failed to disclose. So when Alice orchestrates a time for Journey to come face to face with Joseph's fiance, Journey is hurt and runs.

Cliff hanger ending this one. Spelling errors and incorrect words used are also detractors.

Well, this was a disappointment.

Part 1 and 2, would have been actually one normal book size. Why the author felt the need to split it eludes me.

The writing style was below average.
Everything is told and not experienced through the actions and dialogues of the characters. It is over dramatic. So many pompous words being only hot air. How powerful and deadly everyone is. How intelligent and fearsome.
The whole story was written in a tiny little silly bubble.
The language simplistic, repetitive and sadly not authentic.
The characters and the writing had no depth.
Why the characters all spoke slang eluded me as well. And what that has to do with an ethnically background I probably will never understand. But a well educated man, politician, FBI agent and tipped as the future president, i found it unbelievable.
The author showed no basic and general knowledge at all.
A DNA test performed in a suitcase sized device in a matter of minutes is just silly.
This book offered a lot of other inconsistencies and ludicrous made up stuff.
It had more pompous and over dramatic words, telling me how everything is, without backing it up.
The main female character acted as if she was benighted. The whole “i saw an angle thing” and “I am not telling him what his mother did” while being constantly an embarrassing emotional mess around Joseph. Unable to function properly, speak up and never once acting as a mama bear. Was exhausting and felt like she was on an LSD trip.

It was a nice try and had potential but read only like draft to a real book. With lots of work to do.

Captivating

Captivating, right out of the gate. I really didn't know what to expect reading the synopsis but I'm glad I decided to read it. Loved the storyline and the setting. Gives you a taste of what money and power in some hands can do. But can it buy love? All of the characters were unique. Loved Journey and Jo together, despite the beginning but I really want to know what Rome is about. Now, HE'S the man, parading around as a drug dealer but what is he really into?
This book was well written and unique. Great change from urban lit. I already downloaded the next part and will be checking for even more from Ms Fort's catalog.

Omgeeee

Omgeee this was an amazing read. I have never even heard of this author when a friend recommended this book. Let me tell y’all it was everythingggggg. Joseph was scary at first but then I saw the real him the vulnerable him that only Journey can bring out of him and I just love them together. Alice Warren is a b*+ch and Senator Warren is a son of a b*+ch. How dare they look down at Journey as if she’s beneath them. Their son is in love and I don’t care what Kale (insider lol) says, Journey and Jo just fit and I want that happily ever after for them.

Book 2 please!!

Ooohhh Jo's mother is the devil in disguise!! Jo was wrong for not telling her about Chloe. I knew something was up when he said she would be his mistress. I think Rome knew about Chloe but what else do Rome know. Now I can't for book 2. I wish this book was longer like her other one.

Wow!!!

I don’t know what it is about kale/Kyle by something not right about him. Not once did he acknowledge lil Ayana. I can’t wait to see if Jo mans up and becomes the king to his queen or stays in the shadow of his scandalous parents. Storytelling at its best

Awesome

I don't even know how to feel about No right now. He kicked in that poor girls door and snatched her away from her family even beat up her brother. He even threw away her sticky note. But he is starting to redeem himself. His mama is a trip first she lied that he didn't want the baby and then pulled that mess with the party. I kinda felt bad for Kale...😂 Jo had him running scared. Can't wait to see what Jo do next cause Journey done ran off with the enemy.😂

Loved it

As usual I loved it. Although, I read the reviews first and they claimed that this was an unexpected with twists and turns you wouldn’t believe... that wasn’t the case. Even so I loved it. I feel sorry for Jo. It’s messed up that he has to live a lie but he’s still out cold for deceiving Journey. I also like that the authors books are all intertwined. Characters you may have already encountered pop up everywhere. On to part 2!

Ace ain't nothing but a number!

Jo, I'm giving you the side eye. Journey is too young for you and inexperienced. Kyle seems like a snake and I don't trust him. Her mom was right, calling all the demons out. She's just not wise enough to see that most of them are using her.

Wonderful

I fell in love with Journey myself and I really think that Alice needs to mind her business. I hope is really in love and not playing her. Abigale is right about Kyle and the way he acted with the baby. Waiting for the next one

Difficult For Me👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

This book appeared to be too familiar with a previous book written by this author. While being an entertaining tale, the similarities became too many to ignore. Still worth a read though.

Buy it, read it and enjoy.👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥

Just Plain Good!🔥

I have found a new writer and a new alpha male that lets you know he is king in his jungle. This was a fun and sexy read, the writer captures the true essence of a new and fresh romance. The male character reads like a man waking from a year's long nap.You are going to just love No,he comes off as strong, sexy, sweet and a dangerous predator when his back is against the wall.I love that we are getting to see this relationship unfold and we get to see a man really discover what he wants in his life.I so look forward to the next installment andI know it I will be just as good as the first.

I wanted to rate this lower because certain things weren't adding up in terms of story consistency and that may be down to editing. But, I've come to accept that Edwina is creating a universe of characters that are all entwined and the storyline begins to make sense as you continue to read the series in completion. When I read the snippet for the book focused Romeo's character. I made sense of Jo's intention.

Edwina's characters are predatory in nature and it's so unnerving. I can't romanticise it lol I feel like the female characters are all suspecting victims. It's borderline abusive but because we're reading the POV of the naive female character we're forced to view it from a rose tinted lens. I struggle with that greatly.

But Edwina knows how to keep you engaged. She writes suspensefully and you literally have to continue reading to find out what happens next.

Journey's naivety was so annoying. Jo propositioned her with a contract to be his mistress then she is surprised he has a fiancé? 🤦🏾‍♀️silly rabbit lol

The sexual scenes are written in an "old English poetic" way. Like Edwina is trying to preserve some form of modesty?😅 It throws me off. I'm not sure if it's the editing or her writing style. But it feels like she's archaic and it clashes with the modernity of the characters. I hope I expressed that clearly lol it's just odd.

But I'm engaged so I'll continue reading. I just want to find out how all these characters interconnect because I didn't start reading her books in the correct order.

Well, it was not quite there yet!!!

So, this was different yet very nice. I truly enjoyed the "getting to know everyone" part in this first book as well as the introduction to the full story of this book.
Joseph was so...hummm, intense. I mean even thru the writing part you can feel how intense and powerful and strong and alpha and man everything he was. Besides being beautiful, handsome, charismatic and wonderful, he was a true gentleman and alpha to the core.
Journey was so "fresh"; so new; so young; so warm; so earthly; so innocent; and so naive that you will definitely love her yet at the same time she will get on your last nerve. She just was sounding at times as a spoiled brat.
Now what got me in this story for me to have given this first part a 3 star, even though it started it out as a 5 star is this very crucial scene where Journey found out that Joseph or Jo was actually very honest with her when he had her signed this "contract" because, girlfriend must have forgotten under what circumstances that Jo got her with him for a year. Granted he was giving out so many mixed signals, but hey it was up to her to remember and see to it because when she was faced with the reality of it all, Jo has and was always honest with her.
So with no more spoiler alert, let me go read the second part so I could truly give this book the 5 star that it deserved because this one was not quite there yet!!!
