This book talks about the history and culture of Belize, a country in Central America. This book discusses the region that Belize is located, the animals local to the country, and shares many stories of the daily lives of people who live in Belize. This book would be useful for children who may be taking a Spanish class and want to learn more about the culture of a Central or South American country.
In this book the author, Frank Staub, takes readers on adventure through this beautiful country. There were no main characters in this book, but the author introduces a variety of children from Belize and tell the duties of of each(ex. collecting rainwater for drinking and gathering logs for the stove). As a teacher, I would use this book to teach spanish terms used throughout the book. Students will interact with the text though the photos provided. The pictures of real children and animals will give readers a better understanding of the Belizean lifestyle. Frank Staub did a great job providing photos that a younger audience can visual and make them feel as if they are in Belize. The text can help readers recognize that people come from other places and live in different ways.
