Since this is my own book, I'm not going to write a review. I'm using this space to let you know when there are discounts or marketing promotions, as well as share some thoughts on how the book came to be.

Broken Heart Attack is my fourth novel, also the second in the Braxton Campus Mysteries series. The series follows typical cozies in that it doesn't contain graphic violence, sexual content, or vulgar language; however, I've turned the genre upside down by focusing on a young male protagonist w

This is the second book in the Braxton Campus Mysteries series and another home run! I love, love, love being in Kellan's head and seeing what shenanigans are going to go down next.

All I've gotta say is Nana D is my favorite character, hands down! She's freaking awesome, and I wish I had a funny grandmother like her! Kind of reminds me a bit of Thelma from Mama's Family, but awesomer and more hilarious! And that's hard to top!!

As with book one, Kellan faces drama and mystery! I was flying throug

So, Wow, I was back again in Braxton picking up where I left off at the end of a cliffhanger of a surprise —-like a smack to the face. But yes, it felt great to be back. Before you know it, things are happening with one of Nana D’s friends and of course, Nana D is putting Kellan right in the middle of it. Luckily, Kellan is good at being nosy and sometimes a good eavesdropper. Sometimes, though, poor Kellan. Sometimes I don’t envy where he ends up. Sometimes it seems he can’t

I have read a couple of the author’s books and I must say he is getting better and better at his craft. I do believe that James J. Cudney has the potential to become a household name for those who enjoy light-hearted murder mysteries. “Broken Heart Attack” is the second book in the “Braxton Campus Mysteries.” However, “Heart Attack” can be read as a stand-alone book. One needn’t

Kellan Ayrwick dropped into the Braxton Campus in book 1, thanks to his father, the ex-President of the College and then he was pulled into the

This book saw him

Coming back to Kellan, in this tale, he didn’t fall into the body, the dead body fell on to his shoulder and he had to get to the truth.

What a great read! James J. Cudney is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.
He knows how to build a plot and make it complex to the point where the reader is wondering how the heck things are going to tie at the end.
Kellan has so much going on in this book, I felt sorry for him. Between his Nana, another murder, his job, the sheriff, and ghosts from the past, I wanted to reach out and give him a hug. Poor thing!
But the marathon kept me engaged, annoyed every time I had to stop reading to chec

It was a cozy, murder mystery, revolved around main character Kellan and another murder at Braxton Campus. Book was about greed, betrayal, and family drama.

Kellan was the brilliant one in the book. I liked him more than the first book. We get to know him on personal level as father and as a husband, son, grandson, son-in-law, friend and a human as well. He did his best in all those relationships. I couldn’t imagine myself so patient with this kind of in-laws and after knowing what the

A Wonderful Small-town Mystery

Although this book has elements of a cozy mystery (I.e. amateur sleuths, small town setting, quirky/eccentric characters), there is more of a contemporary mystery feel to it. In this outing of The Braxton Campus Mysteries, Kellan is recruited by Nana D. And her friend Eustacia Paddington to find out who killed Gwendolyn Paddington. I will say Kellan has more patience than I do. The Paddington family is full of spoiled, rude, greedy and secretive people who tried the

Broken Heart Attack happens right after the events of book 1 (Academic Curveball). In the previous book, Kellan accidentally became a detective when he solved a murder in Braxton before the police. In this book, once again, he’s thrown to playing detective and crime solver. This time, a murder of someone close to him – one of her Nana D’s friends. And in this book, he’s also dealing with the truth about his wife that he learned in the previous book.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy to read in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in the Braxton Campus Mysteries series and once again I loved it. I am just going to call it right now, I am going to love everything this man writes.

Nana D is still my favorite but she has some competition in this book in the form of a 6 year old. Kellan’s daughter Emma is just as feisty and sarcastic as her dad and grandmother. I absolutely adore the relationship between Kellan

Have you already read one or both books from Braxton Campus Mysteries? If not, this is a good moment because James J. Cudney is about to release the third book from the series!

After finding a dead body on campus in Academic Curveball, the main protagonist of the series Kellan has the opportunity to solve a sudden death mystery in the second book Broken Heart Attack which happens during the King Lear play’s dress rehearsal. His grandmother’s friend succumbs to a suspicious heart attack, and Kella

The second book of this series is even better than the first! Kellan gets drawn into another mystery when a wealthy theater patron dies under mysterious circumstances. The characters in this family are outrageous... and his own family is quite the interesting bunch. Especially the inlaws... wow!

As with the last one, it brings a fresh perspective to have this in first person from a male protagonist, something not usually found in the cozy genre. Nana D is back and feistier than ever. And little E

"Broken Heart Attack" what a play on words and spot-on title. I personally think this title tells you what this book is all about; Poor Kellan, the hapless protagonist of this book is literally bombarded with an onslaught of emotional torture and conflicts. I didn't expect this book to be this strong, the author went above and beyond my expectations once again.

Likewise the previous book, "Academic Curveball," I have hardly anything to nag about.
The plot is well-contemplated and intricately craf

Broken Heart Attack is the second book in James Cudney’s Braxton Campus Mysteries. Just as the first, I love Mr. Cudney’s COZY MYSTERY true to the genre with MURDER, MYSTERY, and a HUMOROUS SLEUTH. Again, KELLAN finds himself involved in another Braxton campus crime, a murder revolving around the affluent PADDINGTON FAMILY. GWENDOLYN Paddington, the matriarch of this dysfunctional clan and close friend of Kellan’s grandmother, NANA D. dies on Kellan’s shoulder in the middle of a King Lear produc ...more

Braxton Hall is gearing up for the drama of the year- and I don't just mean their production of King Lear!  Kellen is still getting used to being back home and working under a woman that obviously hates him and his family.  Emma has finally come down to be with him and he loves having his little girl, but she was delivered with a lot of unanswerable questions.  There are things in his past that could affect the future- and not all of them are willing to stay put in the past.  Then

ANOTHER TRIUMPH!! The laughs and shock continue with this installment in the Braxton Campus Mystery Series!

It makes me so happy to see the continued growth in all of my favourite characters. Will Kellan ever find love?

An excellent mystery by an excellent writer! We have some of the terrific characters back from the first book with an addition of an extra story in the background. People die and come back from the dead in mysterious circumstances.
Our hero is drawn into the drama on the stage and off the stage. And this time its not just his Nana pulling him in. Her friends pull on him, too. Meanwhile his personal life is in an uproar.

Cozy mystery with unique and charming characters.

“Broken Heart Attack” is the second book in the “Braxton Campus Mysteries” series, which at this moment contain four books, but can be all read as standalone.

The course of events got me interested from the very beginning. Kellan, the main character, is easily lifelike. He seems to be a really cool guy, friendly, polite, thoughtful, smart and funny. I loved the type of relationship Kellan has with his grandmother. Nana D is quite the character, de

Kellan Ayrwick’s Unexpected Life

This second story flows smoothly from Academic Curveball, the first book in the series. When I began reading I felt the lives of the characters flowed smoothly, as if I had just finished reading the first book. Broken Heart Attack is a new story and another contorted plot that kept me guessing.

The author has created characters that stand out from one another, each with strong personalities. Besides Kellan’s non-assuming personality, my favorites are the Deputy and

I must confess that I'm not typically a fan of "cozy" mysteries; I like mine gritty! But I am a huge fan of James after reading his first two novels so of course I was going to read this series! And of course I loved them! The characters are quirky and lovable: who doesn't love sweet little Emma with her childish honesty, protagonist Kellen with his acerbic wit, and Nana D with her curmudgeon-like personality--who may just serve you one too many margaritas if you cross her! The novels have a gre ...more

Broken heart attack is the second book in James J. Cudney's successful Braxton Campus Mysteries series.

In this book we are immediately drawn back into Kellan's world in the introductory scenes where he has agreed to assist his feisty and determined grandmother, Nana D, in running for mayor and is trying to rally her team of elderly friends into constructively assisting with her campaign. Nana D is quick to notice that her friend Gwendolyn Paddington, matriarch of the extremely wealthy Paddingto

Cudney’s smooth, readable style scooped me up and swiftly drew me back into life on Braxton campus. While you might initially flounder slightly if you hadn’t had the pleasure of reading Academic Curveball, Cudney ensures you’ll soon make sense of what is going on – and indeed, there’s plenty to keep poor Kellen on the back foot.

His main relationship is with his feisty, sharp-tongued grandmother, Nana D. I really like the intergenerational dynamic within the story. Kellen’s grandmother isn’t intr

Broken Heart Attack (Braxton Campus Mysteries, Book 2)

When Gwendolyn Paddington dies during the second rehearsal act of King Lear, Nana D asks Kellan to investigate the death. Kellan questions the Paddington family members. He even questions Arthur Terry, the Production Director of the King Lear play. Gwendolyn told Nana D that she believed someone in her family was trying to kill her. Could she have been murdered because she was going to disinherit or evict some of her family? There are plenty

This is the second installment in the Braxton Campus mystery series. I read them both back to back and enjoyed getting know more about the protagonist Kellen from his POV, his young daughter Emma and his loveable but quite eccentric grandmother Nana D. The characters in this story include the members of the Paddington family, many of whom are completely unlikable! But one, Gwendolyn, is a long time friend of Nana D. I absolutely loved this book! The first book in this series - Academic Curveball, ends in a cliffhanger of sorts and I was curious to know what happens next. This book was full of surprises and jaw-dropping revelations! James is one of the best storytellers out there! His writing skills are brilliant too. I recommend Braxton campus mystery series to all those who love Cozy mysteries with a tinge of family drama.

BROKEN HEART ATTACK by James J. Cudney is the second book in the Braxton Campus Mysteries series. It’s the story of Kellan, his adjusting to moving back in Wharton County, Pennsylvania as a Professor at Baxter, with Emma, his 6 year old daughter, and how he is once again pulled into helping to solve a murder.

You can’t help but fall in love with Nana D., Kellan’s grandmother - known by others as Seraphina Danby. After the sudden death of her dear friend, Gwendolyn - of the renown Paddingtons and
