Dr. Dana Perkins is a psychologist and kindergarten teacher. What she wants is to start the kids off on the right foot. Most of her students are from low-income families and they need someone like her .. to lead them to a lifetime of loving to learn.

She had a defining moment in her life. A school shooter ... the loss of 4 of her students .. the pregnant first grade teacher shot and killed along with several of her students.

It's unthinkable, unimaginable, and for Dana it changes everything .....

It's hard writing a review for something like this. I can't say I enjoyed it. No one wants to read about children being killed while in school, especially in this day and age. This is heart-wrenching and sad. My take away from this is how Dana deals with her grief, with survivors' guilt.

And how she winds up in Shutter Lake, a place where there is no crime. Or is there?

This is a series that is written by different authors. There are 4 full-length stories plus 4 short stories to introduce each. The next novel is SO MANY SECRETS written by Vicki Hinze, and starts 7 years after the school shooting.

This story had me crying before the first scenario finished. I can't tell you why here but the defining moment in Dana's life is a horrible senseless tragedy. I liked where the book went after the horror and it seems like the series might be interesting but I don't think a series about the breaking down of something appeals to me. This book is well written, the characters are likable and obviously the author connects us to those characters on an emotional level.

her deepest fear (a breakdown Series Short Read)

Dr. Dana Perkins holds dual Ph.D.'s in education and psychology but her love is for the kindergarten students. The children she sees as the future and who she is determined to instill a love of learning in. The love of learning that will lead them to better lives. Their lives, their futures are what she has devoted her life to but today she will find that the dangers of this world will seek out even the most innocent ...and through her grief and guilt will, send her seeking the quite safety of Shutter Lake....or is it safe?

This is a short read, an introduction to one of the amazing women of Shutter Lake, a Utopian community created by some powerful people with the means and the ability to create a home for them and those they care about where the worst crimes committed are of nuisance but not of danger.....until now.

A school tragedy and a life changed forever

Dr. Dana Perkins is a compassionate psychologist and a gifted kindergarten teacher. At least, that's what she is until tragedy strikes the school where she is employed. She is an exemplary teacher who feels compelled to leave education behind until a new job is offered to her in the idyllic community of Shutter Lake. Diana's story continues in the fantastic new series called BREAKDOWN, and it is a tale not to be missed.

Dr. Dana Perkins is a psychologist and kindergarten teacher who wants to get her students to like school right away to get them on the right path. When tragedy strikes, she moves to peaceful Shutter Lake to try to ease her pain. This was an emotional short story that is a prequel to the 2nd book in the Breakdown series.

I loved this snippet/introduction, dare I say more than even the very first snippet/introduction into the series.

I love the fact that Dana is a psychologist. Her defining moment, and I am even surprised at this, the way it was described honestly made me cry.

Loved this and look forward to reading more on Dana.

Wow! This prequel story definitely packs a punch! It was hard to read due to the horrible subject matter, but it really helped me understand Dana as a character. I thought it also did a very good job of setting up her introduction to Shutter Lake, which I really appreciated.

Her Deepest Fear by Vickie Hinze, wow what an intense little short novella. I really enjoyed it and how it helped to provide the backdrop of how Dana ends up moving to Sutter Creek. I certainly would recommend this book to others.
