Felix isn't an adventurer. He's a poor flautist whose strange luck has placed him in the good favor of Viridor's queen and in the arms of the guildmaster's son. And now that the queen is safe and the decrees against elementals have been lifted, all that's left is for him to return to the Guardians' Guild, where he will continue writing songs about events he's played no par ...more

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

While this book picks up in the aftermath of the adventures in book one of the Vanguards of Viridor series, The Sun Guardian, it can easily be read as a standalone. This story starts without preamble. What becomes clear quite quickly is that this story might have the odd character in common with the first book, but this book can be read without the need for the usual ‘what has happened so far’. In order for that to work, the world building needs to be rich enough to hold multiple stories. The author has done a good job with regards to this as this story develops locations as well as introducing new ones. It would be interesting to see how these map out.

Before I started to read the first book I thought that it was going to be just a fun read. I was wrong. The book (The Sun Guardian) turned out to be funny, witty, absorbing, full of action and riveting d ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed book two in the Vanguards of Viridor series.
Having survived a deadly encounter with evil elementals, the main character, Felix, is left feeling a bit lost, but figures there's nothing he can do about it, as he's nothing more than a flautist. But then an incident on the road changes his outlook, and the choices (and discoveries) he makes in the aftermath change his life.
This is an action-filled m/m love story, filled with heros, villains, mystery, royalty, and just enough ma
