I love books that feature a strong heroine and Phoenix was definitely it. The head of her squad, Phoenix, along with Medic and Wolfe, hunt down criminals under the order of their leader, the mysterious Cobra. The action at the beginning of the book is a real hook but as the story continues, the mystery deepens as Phoenix’s past is revealed and how it connects to her future in the squad.

Definitely a must read for fans of action and suspense.

Take one foul-mouthed, hard-driving young woman suffering from amnesia and train her as a member of an elite UN undercover unit fighting arms dealers in dangerous places, and you have the set-up for this fast-paced thriller. Phoenix kicks ass with the best of them but she doesn’t know who she really is. She has nightmares, headaches and flashes of memory, but doesn’t have time to sort things out as she screws up now and then, bringing down the wrath of her boss – the intimidating General Cobra. But during their mission to Colombia, she must pose as his wife. And that’s when the action, mystery and an unexpected attraction begin to heat up, quite literally.

Phoenix is a compelling character. And despite her tough talk, she’s got plenty of heart and soul. I was pulling for her all the way and was surprised at the interesting turn of events.

I didn’t know this was the first book in a planned series and will have to wait for the sequel to find out what happens next. It was definitely a fun read.

When i found this one on iBooks,i was instantly intrigued. And once i started,i knew this was a story i needed to finish. One i couldn’t put down until i knew what happened to Phoenix. If she got her memory back. And who she really was....besides the strong woman that kicked ass. That was part of a team called Alpha Squad, but felt she stood on the side-line. That needed to be trusted by her commanding officer Cobra, but never received that trust. The end of this book drives me straight to part 2,Retribution. I need to know more! Really,i do!

What a gripping, truly “unputdownable” thriller! I literally read it in one day - it was that good! I really enjoyed that as the story starts, the reader gets plunged straight into action together with Phoenix and her elite Alpha Squad - an international military organization fighting global terrorism. After the very first action-packed scene, I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to find out Phoenix’s story and truth be told, she’s certainly quite an intriguing character. All she remembers is waking up in the hospital with her memory as blank as a slate. Her own squad leader Cobra mistrusts her and considers her sudden appearance something different than a simple coincidence…
Phoenix was an extremely likable character and very easy to sympathize with. Her feeling of loss, confusion, and uncertainty of where she truly belonged made me hope for her to finally find her “home.” The chapter where her memory returns kept me on the edge of my seat, and after that, I couldn’t get to the end fast enough to see how it all plays out. A wonderful thriller that I would highly recommend! Looking forward to book two already!

Really enjoyed this action packed story with a cool team of elite forces including a strong female character called Phoenix. She is the newest member of the team and has no memory prior to her being found by the team two years earlier. The leader of the team is Cobra and his relationship with Phoenix is fiery and one of the highlights of the book. I particularly liked Cobra's back story which added depth to his character..The book starts with a bang and continues as a real page turner. As the story unfolds we learn the truth about Phoenix's past. These type of books satisfy my desire for easy to read, escapist fun and I am always captivated by sexy, kick ass female protagonists! I can't wait to read book two in the series.

Fast action, suspense and mystery

This is a modern-day military thriller with a romantic thread. The mysterious and compelling heroine, Phoenix, is their newest recruit. to the Alpha Squad, an elite United Nations military unit hunting dangerous arms dealers. Phoenix has to prove herself to her team leader, Cobra, and is prepared to go the extra yard. Action starts quickly with strong female characters who are capable and confident. The story proceeds with good page-turning pace, and has plenty of unexpected twists and turns, The only thing I personally didn't like was the flashbacks, which explain where Phoenix is coming from, but disrupted my reading. I expect others will be fine with them. Recommended.

I'm not sure what brought me to this book, but it has a lot of elements that I like: special skilled quasi-military types going after bad guys that are immune to traditional law enforcement, with both genders kicking ass. This book has all that, plus an intriguing spin on the amnesia trope.

But the writing was just OK, and the side characters had more developed emotional responses that any of the leads. Also, the twist in the middle was not handled well.

This ends on a harsh transition that is not technically a cliffhanger, but many threads are unresolved.

I won't read the next one.

A wild adrenaline ride!

From the moment I started reading Snakebite: Alpha Squad, I couldn’t put it down. The twists and turns kept me flipping the pages to race to the end. Phoenix is a strong, but flawed female protagonist. Amnesia and crushing nightmares lead her to always feel on the outside. Just when she thinks she’s finally earned the trust of the leader of her squad her memory returns and her world is shattered - again.
I can’t wait to read the sequel!

Excellent writing that kept me guessing. PACKED with emotions, humor, and intrigue. A girl absorbed into an elite military unit after she wakes up with no memories of her past, she finds out in a painful way who she once was and who she might now become. Recommended if you love military-themed thriller romances.

A fast paced page turner with an interesting twist. Phoenix has a past, she just can't remember it but her present is as a soldier in an alpha squad. Whilst on a mission in Columbia her past and present collide. Good characterization and action sequences with a small romance thread. Note this is not a standalone book and is part of a series so the story is not resolved in this novel.

Great story, strong heroine

This is a thriller with bite. Fast paced, action packed and violent, all the ingredients you want from this genre and more. It is also multi-layered and offered up some surprises which I didn’t see coming. Phoenix is a strong female character amongst realistic alpha males. Despite this she has vulnerabilities as she suffers from amnesia, is desperate to belong, to be considered a valued member of her UN military unit especially in the eyes of her hard-hearted general Cobra.
If you’re looking for a roller-coaster ride, look no further, this is only book one, and I for one can’t wait for more.

Oh man, I LOVED this book! It's not usually my genre of choice, but I couldn't put this one down. The plot was intelligent and full of twists and the characters were developed and multi-layered. I also love books with strong female leads and Phoenix was certainly that- while also managing to be flawed an believable. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Phoenix, the heroine of Snakebite, is a mysterious and amnesiac woman who is part of an elite UN squad tasked with hunting down master criminals and terrorists. The other members of the squad, known as Medic and Wolfe, are just as mysterious. Their leader is a brooding general known as Cobra, a man who puts the fear of God into the members of his squad and everyone else. For example, when he walks into the dining room on their base in New Mexico, everyone in the room stops talking and leaves as soon as possible. Of course, the reader gets glimpses into how hot he really is and suspects something really good is going to happen between him and Phoenix.

At first this seems like it’s going to be a simple action/romance, but then it begins to develop layers. The reader wonders why the squad took in an unknown woman with amnesia and trained her to be a part of their team, and no good explanation is given at first. I thought there must be a lot more to the story, and boy, is there! I can’t say what without giving spoilers, but I can say that I wish the second book in this series was already out. It took me a day or so to get my mind out of Phoenix’s world, and I would have loved to stay in it.

The action is amazing, and since the author is a personal trainer, she seems to know what she’s talking about. The only complaint I have is that the book's cover could be improved. The girl on the cover looks like she could still be in high school and playing with her dad's gun. That's definitely not the mental picture a reader gets of Phoenix. In the book, her age is given as twenty-nine, and the girl on the cover looks like a kid.

Cover aside, if you enjoy novels filled with lots of street fighting, intrigue, and some truly titillating scenes that stop just short of the act (I swear it’s book foreplay!), you’ll love this book! Please, Ms. Ramsay, hurry up with book two!

One of the best stories I’ve read in a while!
I have to be honest that I wasn’t sure about this story at first. I’m not too fond of military tropes, so I was a little wary going in. But thank goodness I kept reading! The military framework in Snakebite reminds me a lot of Tris’ situation in Divergent, by Veronica Roth, and it was just as compelling. The protagonist, an amnesia-stricken ass-kicker named Phoenix, tries to fit in and prove herself in an elite UN Alpha Squad. She is an outsider with no memories, and her tough façade is countered by a feeling she doesn’t belong. Her commanding officer seems to hate her, she’s plagued by self-doubt, and despite some amazing feats (she’s quite the fighter!), it seems she can never perform well enough to clear herself of suspicion. Phoenix is down-to-earth and immediately likable, and I found myself rooting for her from the start. The dynamics between her and General Cobra are intense, and the entire time, I’m dying to know if he wants to kill her or is enraptured by her—but whatever it is, we can sense the power of his emotions. That aspect was so well-written, as was Phoenix’s confusion by it, that I was left wondering what he was thinking right alongside Phoenix.
Ms. Ramsay did an incredible job weaving this story and I was mesmerized right to the end. I seriously couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait for the sequel to come out!

Oh. My. God! This was such an intense, gripping, full-throttle read. There wasn't a singe scene that didn't propel you forward, add some tension, or deepen characters. Phoenix is utterly awesome. This a heroine you can love. She is totally bad-a%s, without coming off as snarky. What she faces, and how she copes, especially when the climax comes is done to perfection. Cobra had me at hello, and each of his layers that peeled back had my stomach filled with butteries. When things were revealed I was shocked, surprised and then thrust forward into the consequences, and that end... it says par two is available, please, please hit publish. I am drying to see what the future holds.

This is a thriller done right. Get it.

This story starts right in it. Page one: ACTION. I love me some strong female characters and Phoenix has that quality in spades. Fair warning, this book does have quite a bit of gore and blood. It’s not something that bothers me, but I just know for some it can be a turn off.

There were plenty of twists, including one toward the end that I didn’t see coming. With that being said, some of the flashbacks were pretty confusing. It would take me a minute and a reread to make sure I actually read what I read.

All-in-all this was a really good book. If you like this genre, this should be at the top of your to-read list.

This is a gritty, fast-paced story with a feisty female lead, told in the first-person narrative.

From the outset, the writing style is fast, short sentences and wham into the action and story. It centres on Phoenix, who is part of an elite squad that are meant to tackle 'those difficult jobs'. Things are not that simple, however.

I like a strong female protagonist and Phoenix suits the role. There is sexual tension and mysteries about the past - and the unexpected.

Overall, this is a good piece of fiction and would be enjoyable for those who like this genre.

Worth a look.

The lead female character, Phoenix, who, via special ops, is trained to be as hard as nails, also has a vulnerable side to her, namely from her amnesia - which is an issue that plagues her.

A mission that involves her posing as the wife of General Cobra, her boss who appears not to have much faith or time for her, opens a fresh lot of twists and turns to the story.
A suspenseful military action thriller, this book is well-written with great characters, is fast-paced and makes for a good read.

It is now down to the second book in the series to discover what happens next.

This book piqued my interest right from the beginning. It is fast paced and full of action and mystery and a hint of romance. And just when I thought I would have things figured out, it throws me a plot twist that has me really turning the pages to find out more. Now I can't wait to read the second book to find out how the story will continue! This is definitely a book/series I will be reading again and again!

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of such genre, but I dive into this story.
"Snakebite. Alpha squad book 1." by Heather Ramsay.
This is a thriller with bite (snakebite 😁) Actions, violence, surprises and everything that you want from this genre, will wait for you. Are you ready?
Phoenix is newest recruit. Where she came from, nobody knows, even she herself. She does not remember her past, or identity. Phoenix is a strong female character amongst alpha males. Squad is all she has... And then, wait for surprises.. Oh, almost forget about General Cobra (cobra, hmm) , who is cold, hard and ruthless, and he does not trust her 😱
I really ate my nails while reading.

The warnings didn’t lie when it mentions adult language, but that’s fine by me. I find cursing much more realistic, especially in military high-stress situations. While I’m usually not a huge fan of the brooding, mentor relationship, in this book it works. There are several aspects of the relationships within this story, and the characters are well-fleshed out and multi-faceted. There is plenty of high action, intrigue, and I look forward to the next installment. I do warn, it ends on a cliffhanger!

A UN military unit The Alpha Squad shelters the hard-bitten heroine Major Phoenix, who has no past and is trained to kill. Arms dealers are the target and are ruthlessly opposed. Code names reign supreme in this action novel, which lend to the mystery. Just who is Major Phoenix? Mysterious boss Cobra adds tension, and sometimes seems like the enemy, but that soon changes in more ways than one. Intriguing take on international and personal relations simmering below the veneered surface.

Brilliant read

Alpha Squad was an action packed story that pulls you in from the very first page. Love that the story starts with action, no slow build up or lengthy explanation. The plot unwinds over the course of the book very well and the descriptions of people and places were so well written i felt like i was actually there. Looking forward to the second book!
