Great minds think alike.

And they tend to gravitate toward one another.

Hank Phillippi Ryan has created quite the cat-and-mouse scenario in this one. She's got attorneys set up to out-think, out-maneuver, and out-pace one another in this weighty legal bundle tied with loose string that will soon begin to unravel.

Rachel Kirkland is a bit late to the game at age thirty-six stepping into the inner circles of an internship at the Middlesex District Attorney's office. She's set to graduate from Harvard

I received a free ARC of The Murder List by Hank Phillippi Ryan from Macmillan in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The murder list is a list of attorneys who are eligible to defend murder cases.

Rachel North is a law student, married to a defense attorney on the murder list. Rachel has been selected to join a prosecutor's office for 3 months as part of her internship. Unfortunately, the prosecutor is a woman who has had a running grudge again

Law student Rachel North has a coveted summer internship in the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office with Assistant District Attorney Martha Gardiner. This is great, except Martha just happens to be Rachel's husband's arch nemesis. Jack, a defense attorney, hates to lose, and it seems like Martha is the only one who can beat him. Jack is on the murder list, a special group of attorneys who represent accused murderers who can't pay for their defense. Once Rachel's internship is over, she'l ...more

Rachel is in law school and gets an internship with the district attorney's office. This causes problems in Rachel's marriage because her husband is a defense attorney, and his biggest enemy is the DA. During her internship, a cold case is reopened. One that Rachel has a connection with from her days working with a senator.

This novel alternates between past and present. Rachel is smart and driven. Her husband is a successful defense attorney, and they have plans for her to get a law degree so th

What I love most about Hank Phillippi Ryan's novels is that you never (ever!) know which characters you can trust—but you can always trust that you're in good hands with this expert storyteller. What starts as an unsettling undercurrent grows into the kind of tension no reader can walk away from. Deftly mining the gray area between right and wrong, erroneous and inevitable, innocent and guilty, The Murder List is twisty, unpredictable, and utterly irresistible: Suspense at its finest from an aut ...more

Hank Phillippi Ryan has a special way of keeping her legal thrillers from taking on a procedural feel - something that is no easy feat in this genre. The Murder List centers on law student Rachel North and her internship with the DA's office - interestingly enough, Rachel's husband is a criminal prosecutor on the other side. While we learn the specifics of Rachel's life and work, it becomes evident that something in her past is going to factor into the present, so we get alternating timelines - ...more

Check out my fun Q&A Interview with the amazing Hank Phillippi Ryan!

Bestselling author and one of my favorites, Hank Phillippi Ryan "wowed" us last year with TRUST ME My Top Books of 2018 and returns with her best yet—THE MURDER LIST! Top books of 2019.

An electrifying plot-driven standalone legal thriller which will leave you "glued" to the pages in this high stakes cat-and-mouse game of manipulation. A wild roller-coaster game of obsession, power, and revenge. The ending is jaw-dro

Alright, if John Grisham and Lisa Scottoline has a book baby, then this would be the result! Courtroom drama, a murder mystery, politics and a shaky marriage make for a real page turner! I loved the ending!

If you never remember anything remember that eye witness accounts can make or break your case and it doesn't hurt to have great legal support such as your husband serving as your criminal attorney nor does it hurt to be going for the bar in achieving your own powerful legal status in becoming your husband's law partner.
As if you needed more reason to read this one how about that cover that sends chills to the core and the previews plus amazing reviews that are sure to come

Omg omg this was beyond exciting with a complicated and a complex plot line making it a fun legal thriller with a theme of a cat and mouse game.

The story went this. Rachel was married to lawyer Jack Kirkland where in the past she had been a juror in one of his cases. She was now interning at her husband's arch rival Martha Gardner's office. Martha and Jack hate each other and Rachel was caught right in the middle. There was a reason behind the way their lives intersected.

This Author is a favourite of mine and I read a lot. Her books are twisty and the characters and stories keep you glued to the pages from the beginning to the end. Of course I love it when I get it wrong. If you haven't read this Author start now. Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author for the privilege of reading this book.

Right from the start this book sounded edgy and different. I haven’t read anything by Hank Phillippi Ryan before, but I liked that the main character in this book sounded like she had her shit together but yet it might all be a lie.

I have been having quite a bit of luck with thrillers this summer but I was looking for something with a little more suspense rather than the thrills and chills of a psychological thriller and this book sounded like it would fit the bill. I mean it does have ‘a novel

A legal thriller that examines both sides of justice. "The law is all about analysis. About knowing the rules and, more important, how to use them." But when a determined prosecutor faces off against an equally adamant defense attorney, only one side can win.

What it's about: Rachel North is on her way to having it all. A former Chief of Staff for Senator Thomas Rafferty, she's now enrolled in law school and about to do an internship. She's married to a hotshot defense attorney, Jack Kirkland, a

The epigraphs in the beginning of The Murder List speak of envy and jealousy. Perhaps, we the readers are the envious ones. Perhaps some may dislike the law profession because in fact we envy those who are part of the profession. Lawyers have power. Lawyers are often the most intelligent people in the room. They are trained to be competitive, to understand the mechanics of confrontation, to bring order to a chaotic social system. Finally to serve Justice.

Hank is a master at crafting characters—the descriptions and personality traits that she developed are amazing and are key movements in this book. For instance, I was SO irritated with how Jack treated Rachel that I found myself just hating him. Hank is an excellent storyteller and really does an excellent job of describing being on a jury and the behind the scenes of being in a court room. This book is very fast paced and Hank just keeps getting better and better at writing. She is one of my ab ...more

Sometimes an experience in life comes along that leaves you quite tongue-tied in describing its full effect. Those of us who consider reading one of our favorite experiences are fortunate to have that words-are-not-enough experience happen when we read an exceptional book. So, it is with praise that will inevitably fall short of describing its target that I am reviewing The Murder List by Hank Phillippi Ryan. It is as near a perfect tale as words can achieve. This highly complex thriller wrapped rings around me and fried my brain. This was my first read of Hank Phillippi Ryan’s and I’m going to be bold and say she is the queen of misdirection.

What I thought was going to be a hit list is actually anything but. The murder list as the title states is actually a list of lawyers that take on murder cases.

This clever book throws cases at you from all directions and although I was confused at the start it soon became clear that little pieces of information

OH. MY. GOD. Ya'll I stayed up half the night finishing this book. I loved every moment of this book and I had to give it ALL the stars. If I had more than 5 to give I would. The characters, the writing, the plot, the twists and turns - all of it was so suspenseful and gripping.

Sensational!! This was suspenseful, twisted and completely unpredictable and took me by surprise in the best possible way. 5 shining stars.

This was a murder mystery, a courtroom drama and obviously a who done it. But more than that, it highlighted some tricky relationships, both personal and work and displayed those in such a way that you questioned each character and their motives throughout.

Rachel North is a law student. She is married to Jack Kirkland, a strong defence attorney. Together th

Wow! This book kept me guessing. Totally riveting! First I thought one character was the bad one, then another, then back to the first, back and forth. The author paced her reveals really well. Her time as an investigative reporter must have come into play with this book.

Winning is the name of the game. Jury tampering, witness tampering…all by someone within the legal system? Can this be true? And perhaps even murder to prevent exposure? The action is dizzying, heart-stopping. Everyone has an ag

I don't like legal thrillers, but this was a suspense/mystery/thriller about lawyers, which I like just fine! Fast paced and deviously plotted, with Hank's characteristic wit and razor sharp dialogue. She's done it again! Another stellar read with a crafty twist!

Wow! To say this book is a page-turner is really an understatement. If you want to read a novel that will pull you in and keep you fascinated until the very end, this is the book for you.
A murder list is not the list of people a killer wants to murder. It’s the list of high-profile lawyers who are willing to take on clients accused of murder who have little or no ability to pay.
