I am going to be teaching my English 102 (Composition and Rhetoric) class out of this book in the Spring semester. The readings are interesting and diverse, bringing together a variety of concerns and issues involved in college life. There are essays on being a non-traditional student, effective study skills, finding one's place in college, being a first generation college student, and more.

This book is terrific for a college skills or introductory writing course. The essays are diverse and full of perspective useful for anyone interested in bettering their lives through education. Chapters 4 and 5 are highlights: "Learning and Unlearning" and "Becoming an Educated Person."
