Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell, popularly known as Margaret Mitchell, was an American author, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1937 for her novel, Gone with the Wind, published in 1936. The novel is one of the most popular books of all time, selling more than 28 million copies. An American film adaptation, released in 1939, became the highest-grossing film in the history of Hollywood, and received a record-breaking number of Academy Awards.

This was everything I could have wanted in a sequel for Gone with the wind. You hardly even notice a difference in author because the narrative voice is almost exactly the same. It all comes full circle and we finally get the ending we always wanted.

Even though it was not written by the same author I can say that I truly enjoyed this book. Scarlett finally realizing she is in love with Rhett and going after him no matter what was very satisfying for me. Absolutely loved it!

I am rating this book 5 starts because of the character growth and the ending!! And because it’s written by a different author which I was skeptical about at first but I don’t feel like I lost sight of the characters in this continuing story that picked right up where Gone With The Wind left off. So that’s really impressive. It must have been a very daunting task for an author.

I got the closure I wanted. And the main character finally accepted her life instead of being selfish and controlling. I love to see growth and hope in a character because when reading I feel like I am the main character. And the first book left me hopeless that people can change and that they should get what they deserve. And I am a sucker for a happy ending. (Hello Jane Austen!)

In some ways I loved this book sooo much better than the first, but in other ways Gone With The Wind is better. I felt less attached to the new characters but I was still excited to “meet” them. And the first book had more humor.

I will admit I speed read through this because I mainly only cared about the Scarlet and Rhett storyline but the other storylines were interesting too. And I did something I’ve never done. I went and read the ending halfway through. I could not stand it if they did not end up together again. I needed to know if I had to brace myself because I was so blindsided when I read Gone With The Wind. (Which now I feel so stupid about the ending is clearly hinted at even in the title)

Bad. If you read Margaret Mitchell’s novel, I don’t know how you could like this. I read it when it came out with great hopes, but it is bad. It’s cosplaying Mitchell.

If you’re expecting this to be like Margaret Mitchell’s book, you might be disappointed. It’s actually a more straightforward book for those who enjoyed the Scarlett-Rhett dynamic. I gave it a 4-star rating because I was captivated and eager to know what Scarlett would do next. The story is long and tangled and the writing doesn’t have the wow effect. Unlike the original book, the author doesn’t emphasize the characters’ personalities as much, which made me a bit sad. I loved the symbolism and meanings in Gone with the Wind, and I felt a bit disappointed with this one. However, overall, it’s a captivating book that keeps you wanting to know more.

Why can't people leave things alone? This was not worth the time and energy. Scarlett embarrassing herself at Melly's burial, the trip to meet her namesake, that night with Rhett. And dare I mention the TV version was also a joke? Joanne Whalley-Kilmer? NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE as Vivian Leigh or even beautiful, for that matter. Timothy Dalton's southern accent was so bad I just couldn't go on watching. It was just WRONG.

I waited impatiently for this sequel only to be disappointed.

I made two mistakes when this was first released in 1991; pre-ordering, paying full price for the hardcover and then reading this. It’s a waste of resources to print and market this book in any format; not to mention the wasted time and money of readers who read this awful book. Both critics and fans of the original novel felt that it was bad and it was panned by book critics worldwide. It was a commercial success, most likely because of pre-orders and it debuted on the New York Times bestseller list. While no book will ever please everyone who loved Ms. Mitchell’s original I believe that Donald McCaig has done a good job with the two books that the estate has allowed him to write. He has not written a sequel that has Scarlett as the main character, although IMHO she shares the spotlight in “RHETT BUTLER’S PEOPLE and he have said that it was his impression that they “were thoroughly embarrassed by “SCARLETT”. The book is over 830 pages long and for the most part is just a cheap, tawdry romance that would probably only exist in used book stores if it was not linked to GWTT. It is in the top five on my list of the worst books I’ve ever read and I’d rate it zero stars if I could..

Alexander Ripley's sequel ruined Miss Mitchell's great classic and she should have to buy back every copy from readers who were disgusted with the trash she wrote.

As someone who has always loved Gone with the Wind, I was impressed by how good this sequel is. As I listened through audio I felt like I was watching a soap opera. I don't want to spoil the story, but it didn't disappoint. I have to admit there are times that the book goes into lengthy details to the point where it's a bit boring, but overall I give this book a 9.5/10.

There is a lot of political info that I didn't enjoy. I didn't think the characters from GWTW would have made some of the choices they do in this book. I felt like Scarlett was a different person. But it was fun to read a story about them continuing on.

I read this book twice. First time in my teens and second time in my 40s. I remember loving the book, but this time around I didn’t even like it. I gave it sentimental three stars.. The author was stretching the story on and on. I felt like the book will never end.

To be a sequel written by a dif author, years later, in a different time in history in real life, but to go back to that time, I found the book to be written well. Same for the movie, actually. I did prefer the book, though. There are differences from book to movie.

One million times better than the first one. I am thrilled to have gotten the ending I wanted and it was a wild ride to get there. Definitely worth the read.
