With Jeff Young’s fantastic grades, he should be a great tutor. But he’s terrible with human interaction. “You’re an asshole,” is not a unique phrase to him. Jeff’s all right with that. His past proves most people are assholes.

Even with his reputation, he takes it too far when he uses a textbook to save the track star, Braeden, from a goose attack. Braeden i

Sometimes, the final key to happiness is being honest with ourselves and those around us. Jeff has always had trouble with social interactions, but it wasn’t always his fault. He was bullied for his differences and resorted to becoming a social hermit to survive. He coped with not fitting in by setting educational goals for himself. In a word, he was a “nerd” who made a good target.

It was in an uncharacteristic “heroic” moment that he met the school “it” boy, Braeden when he “saved” him from an

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann a four-star read that will burn your heart. I picked this read up as I had enjoyed the authors work before and like the way they write so I didn’t read the blurb before picking it up, and it was a refreshing way to read as it gave me a totally fresh palate and I loved the story, it was powerful, emotional and compassion. Watching Jeff as he grew into himself, watching him go through high school and face the struggles and watch him study to cope, his friendship ...more

As with any good romantic fantasy, this story has all of the components that make it fun to read. There is angst, strong friendships and families and also disfunctional, chaotic families and friends. There is love and self-discovery and self-acceptance.

At about 122 pages, this is a very quick and easy read. The characters are well developed and the story has a very distinct beginning, middle and end. There are secondary characters that I want to know more about I would love to keep up with the
Burning Britely (Burning Britely #1) by Deidre Huesmann was a sweet, heart melty read, that had me hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author, and though I have read LGBTQ books in the past, it's still something that is a tab bit out of my normal comfort zone. I'm glad I gave this book a chance because the love story is sweet, emotional, heart melty, and heart breaking. Love is love, and this book puts it on display for all to see.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This book was so adorable! The story was great and so heartwarming, and the characters were fantastic.
I was fearful because of the length of the book that there wouldn’t be much of a story, but I was wrong, and the story flowed beautifully.

Jeff sounds like he could be such a sweet guy if he didn’t treat people the way he does. The way he handles certain situations could be dealt with a little better, but I think it is part of the cha

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is a quirky and cleverly written coming out story. The leading man is Jeff. Jeff is smart, small and sarcastic. His intelligence wont allow him to suffer fools. He has zero patience and comes off as rude and unfriendly. He doesn't trust easily and prefers his own company than that of others. He falls for Braeden and the road to their HEA is a rocky one.

Burning Britely was a story that I absorbed in one sitting. Jeff was an extremely complex character, but under

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann, is a coming of age Male/Male young adult LGBT romance. A shorter read, but does not take away the Impact of the book or subject of the book. I think Huesmann has written a book that adults, teens, and tweens could learn a lot from. From the two main characters questioning their place in this world to bringing to life what many are facing in high school as they grow and find just who they are becoming. I highly recommend this book and give it a BRIGHT FIVE STAR ...more

Burning Britely is the first part in a wonderful young adult coming-of-age series by Deidre Huesmann. It’s different from most other YA coming-of-age stories in that the main character Jeff Young is bisexual and the object of his desires in this book is male.
I absolutely adored Jeff. He’s the exact opposite of most leading males in a book. He’s short, skinny, grumpy and very nerdy. He’s very much a loner, with only Maya as a friend, and has been the subject of much bullying in his past. The obje

Burning Britely By Deidre Huesmann is a wonderfully written book that once I started reading I couldn’t put down. There is a little bit of everything in this book from self discovery to self acceptance to feeling like you are on an emotional rollercoaster ride. Jeff and Braeden are the two main characters .Braeden is popular and in track where Jeff is not really a people person and sticks to himself he doesn’t really like crowds and his lack of interactions with others show. After there is

Burning Britely is a cute coming of age story. Deidre Huesmann has taken a sensitive subject matter into a beautiful story. Sometimes it is awkward enough to try to get through high school without being harass for being yourself. This is a story of a nerd who falls in love with the jock, the only difference is that it is a straight jock and a homosexual nerd. I love this story because it shows acceptance and not hate. It is hard enough when you are being labeled but it can be tortured and have l ...more

This was first one I read from Huesmann. Quite a surprise to find -after a lot books which were poorly written or too pattern like planned. I had lost my hope to find something new, but here it was. Story of Jeff was so refreshing. It wasn’t full of sweet moments and roses and unicorns, not at all. Rather it told a hard story from a real life and of a real person, unique, as we all are. Story of a teen was told with big love and understanding. I really appreciate this kind of storyteller skill. ...more

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann was a short teen love story. This story was refreshing, and light hearted for the most part. I enjoyed the characters and the story line. I love that the story line is not a typical love story, and they go outside the box. This is the first book by this author and I enjoyed it, I will definitely give another book by this author a read. Overall, I give it 4 stars.

Surprisingly good characters

I kept seeing this pop up on my recommendations but kept passing it up and finally decided to give it a try. The storyline was strong as well as the character development. Honestly, this had better characters then a lot of some MM romance books I've read recently so I would recommend it.

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann was the first time I had read anything from Huesmann and I truly enjoyed the novel. It was a short, yet jam-packed, novel. I would definitely recommend it to those that are looking for a coming of age story to share with their teens or tweens that are questioning their place in the world. It really resounds with that part of all of us as humans that always fight that slight struggle to figure out where we fit amongst the crowd we are floating among at the time. ...more

The story Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is a book that I enjoyed reading. It draws you in from the very beginning and I found myself getting lost in the pages. Burning Britely is a standalone novel by Deidre Huesmann. This is my first novel by this author.

A story about self-acceptance, friendship, and family, it follows two boys Jeff and Braeden. Jeff is not good with talking to people nor is he one to join a crowd. He feels the most comfortable studying and has his future all planned out.

“Studying wasn’t exactly a thrilling hobby, but he liked it just fine. It was comfortable, soothing, and predictable. It also helped him toward his goal of graduatin

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is a great YA/coming of age story, full of self-discovery, angst, drama, friendship, expectations, emotions, and self-acceptance. I am familiar with Ms. Huesmann’s other work, and really liked the Modern Greek Tale series, and The Alpha’s Pride- but this book is something different - and again it just proves that Ms. Huesmann can work with any genre/subject and create an engrossing story.

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is one of those books that everyone should read. The emotions and the topics within make it easily one of the best books I have read this year.

A teen dealing with all the changes he is going through. Coming to understand himself as well as those he goes to school with.

Jeff Young is headed to his senior year. His grades are fantastic. His attitude? Well he is not a people person. His social interactions are not, and he doesn't care. Good grades are his focus, until he helps out a track star. He does not understand what his body is telling him. He should stay away, but he can't.

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is a book that I devoured in one sitting, I was instantly pulled into the story and I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. Deidre wrote with so much detail that I was able to really connect with the characters, as well as, easily picture everything playing out in my mind. Burning Britely is a fabulous story by Deidre Huesmann. Its a coming of age story that follows two very different teenagers. It is the first book I have read by Huesmann, but I will be reading more. Her reading style pulls you in right from the beginning. The emotions are high, with drama, second chances, acceptance, love, fear, everything teenagers feel. Highly recommend the story.

Very honest read. The character may seem a gruff antisocial jerk but I immediately recognized it for the defense mechanism it was.

Our country may have made strides in the right direction but we have a long way to go. Some communities, esp military base areas, tend to still be very prejudicial towards those not straight. Being bisexual (or pansexual) can frequently leave one feeling doubly vulnerable. Being super smart is a lonely place socially. And high school is already super awkward.

This was really adorable. I read it last year but somehow forgot to review it but the fact that I remember a lot says enough!

"It was a game, I guess. Kids would pick on me, say stupid shit. Try to see who could make me cry.”

“I can’t imagine you crying.”

Heat laced through Jeff’s cheeks. Whatever had made him open up now made him want to shut down. It was ridiculous, admitting weakness, especially now that he was older, so close to being an adult, and no one messed with him anymore.

This is my second book I've read from this author and I loved it. It really teaches you to be true to yourself as well as those around you. Jeff is pretty much your social hermit. He was bullied so much that he's kind of folded into himself. This is a first book for me by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I only had one small want from this book after I finished, and that was I wanted to hear some of Braeden's side of things. Otherwise this was a well done story, that kept me flipping pages until the end.
Jeff is a young man in high school who has one real friend and he'd like to keep it that way. He's a smart student and a very particular way of how he wants things to go.

“Looks like Quackula got the best of you,” said Jeff.

Braeden snorted. “Something like that.”

“What’d you do to it?” asked Maya.

“Nothing. I thought it was a big duck at first.” Braeden shook his head. “Never saw a goose up close before. Didn’t really think about it until it started hissing.”

Jeff rubbed the spot between his eyebrows. 'How can you grow up near a lake and not tell the difference between a duck and a goose?”
