It's there in the title, 'Adorable' and that is what this book is, lovely quotes (by the cats themselves!) and superb photography by Yoneo Morita.
We learn from the back cover blurb 'Cats rule the world, humans are our slaves ... We are independent, proud, disdainful ... and very, very cute' and the contents go on to enforce these views.
Pussykins, born 1998, for instance states, 'My human thinks I'm arrogant, selfish, lazy and huffy. She's right and I have many other fine virtues too.' Molly Mog, of 2001 vintage, says, 'All I ask is that you love me half as much as I love myself' - who could ask for anything more? - whereas naughty, but obviously arty, Tapioca remarks, 'No matter how busy you are try to take time out to appreciate the arts. Spend a few moments clawing some expensive wallpaper then lie back, relax and enjoy your creative efforts.' Creative? Destructive might have been a more appropriate word!
Fluffball could be said to be self-centred for her view is, 'Sometimes I feel sorry for my domestic [nice choice of noun!]. I wake him at 2 a.m. to get out, at 4 a.m. to get back in again and at 6 a.m. to make my breakfast. If he accidentally wakes me while vacuuming I get quite cross and sulk for hours.' At least the domestic gets two hours rest in between each call.
Meow-Meow sums it all up when she says, 'From the tip of her ears to the tip of her tail a kitten demands, "Love me please."' Undoubtedly true and this is undoubtedly a book that all cat lovers should own and enjoy, even if they can't empathise with every sentiment within its covers!
Utterly Adorable Cats by Helen Exley was given to me because of my love of cats. It is a cute little book with wonderful pictures and cute little quotes.
top tier book. very moving. a must read. provides controversial opinions for the reader to analyze and interpret. My interest elevated - and my emotions were entangled. The passion of expression.
In all seriousness however, this book was given to me when I was little by my Great Grandmother before she passed. I couldn't read it yet, but flipped through the pictures of the cats and loved every second. Found it today in my basement and it's heartwarming to see now.
The title of this book tells it all -- it is full of photos of cute cats, with words attributed to them. My favorite quote comes from a clever kitty named Softie -- I purr and your blues fade away I snuggle close and frown turns to smile. I play chase and your world fills with laughter. And in return all I ask is two meals a day... and all your love.
